Dragon Age Origins Walkthrough Part 8 – Joining the Grey Wardens

The quest itself is simple enough, you head into the camp set up by King Cailan. There are three sidequest, one of which leads to you getting a party member if you did not complete the human noble origin story line.

First, in the camp, talk with the King's Guard. This gives more flavor to the area. You can also head over to the Logain's tent. With some persuasion you can talk with him some to gain the codex entry on “King Maric Theirin”. Now head over to the dog kennels, to the northwest of Logain's tent. When you first get there, talk with the Ash Warrior Leader, with some work you can gain the codex entry for “The Legend Of Luthias Dwarfson”. Now head to the right and hug the kennel. You will find the Kennel Master. Talk with him to begin a quest, “The Mabari Hound”. Turn around and head to the left of the platform where the Chanter is leading a prayer. You will find Wynn there, a mage summoned by the king. You can talk with her to gain the codex entry “The Fade” and “Wynne”. Head to the left from Wynn, up the stairs to the infirmary. Be sure to head to the right of the steps to visit the Quartermaster to potentially get some new weapons. Be sure to check his other stock to get a second backpack for 57 silver. A second will be available for purchase in a while. At the entrance to his little area you will find Daveth, another Grey Warden Recruit.

Up at the Infirmary you will find Jory near the Chanter leading the prayer. There is also a scroll with the codex entry “The Chant of Light: The Blight”. Now head over to the area in the northeast. There you will find Alistair. Talk with him and reveal you are the final recruit for the joining ritual. Be sure to attempt to pick the chest to the left of Alistair as it has some nice gear inside it.

The Hungry Deserter
With Alistair, head for the Infirmary area. You will see a prisoner hung in a cage. Talk with him to learn about his tale. Talk with him to learn just what happened, as there is a bit to the tale itself. Opt to help him without reward to get the most of Alistair's approval out of it.  You can also just kill the man to receive the key.

This key is interesting. It can open a chest that you can access now or it can be used to get a unique staff later on. This involves using it on a Chest in the Grey Warden's Keep DLC. Using it there will get you the Corrupted Magistar's Staff.

The Mabari Hound
Talk with the Kennel Master and ask after the dog. Agree to help. You will enter the pen after that and be given three choices:
1)Muzzle The Dog
2)Kill The Dog
3)Leave

Muzzle the dog in the kennel. Once you are out of the kennel, the Kennel Master will ask if you are headed into the Wilds soon. He will ask you to find a flower to help improve the dog's chances. Agree to help and feel free to ask for details. This will set everything up so you can collect the flower when you venture into the Wilds for the Joining Ritual.

With all that taken care of, head for the Grey Warden's gathering at the fire near the center of camp. Talk with Duncan to trigger the next quests in the story line, “Tainted Blood” and “The Grey Wardens' Cache”.
