You should have received the Queen Harpy Contract from Cecil earlier, and you should know the layout of her lair from hunting Harpies earlier. Now it’s time to put your new Silver Sword to use and cash in on that contract while simultaneously finishing up Hunting Magic.
Head back to the Harpy’s Lair, the series of caverns where you booby trapped the three Harpy nests earlier. Proceeding along the path, you will find a crystal after the first major bend. This one isn’t strong enough to power Philippa’s magic, nor is it strong enough to attract the attention of a Queen Harpy, so keep moving forward. As you may have guessed, the crystals you will need for both quests are in fact one and the same. This coveted gemstone can be found deeper in the lair. When you come to a break in the path, take the left road.
Halfway down the left-hand path, you should see a ring of magical energy. Inside of this ring, resting snugly against the left corner of the makeshift arena, sits the crystal. A Harpy will fly down from nowhere and place the crystal inside of the projection ring, triggering the dreams trapped inside of the crystal and projecting them into whoever steps inside of the aura. In this case, it looks like Letho has been the victim of a Dream Snatcher, as his dreams are projected inside of Geralt’s head. Through this dream you will learn that Letho and the other kingslayers are working alongside Sile.
Upon waking from his trance, Geralt will be attacked by numerous Celaeno Harpies. If you picked up the Robust Sword of Dol Blathanna during the last mission, it will be of great help here, as Celaeno Harpies are resilient and fast. One of the Harpies swooping down to attack you will be the Queen, whom Cecil has asked you to kill.
This battle is deceptively tricky. The Harpies have the advantage of flight, while you will be confined to a stiflingly small arena. This is where the Harpy Traps that you purchased earlier can become very useful. If you don’t have any left, use the large rock in the center of the area to confuse the enemies. Roll around it when they are about to attack, then come up behind them with a quick strike or two before their attack animation plays out. Use Quen as necessary to protect yourself, and you should be able to scrape through the battle.
Take the projection ring, which will allow you to view the dreams contained within the various crystals housed within the Harpy’s Lair. From the arena, follow the path all the way around. It will eventually make a circle and come back to the point from which it started, but only after branching off into three different directions. Take each of the three branches, each of which results in a dead end and a crystal, to find the various memories housed within the Harpy’s Lair. The first of the three paths contains the crystal necessary to complete Hunting Magic. The crystal will be glowing red. Examine it using the projection ring to find that it is none other than the memory of the dragon that attacked you and King Folstest. The power contained within this crystal will easily be enough to help Philippa. You will receive 1,000 experience points for viewing the dragon’s dream.
