Poptropica Walkthrough - Cryptids Island Part 1: Getting the Kitesurfer X250

After landing on Cryptids Island, head right, past the signs saying Souvenirs, Candy, Baked Goods and General Store.

Speak to a bearded man holding a soccer ball. He asks you if you have seen the flyer. You get a reward flyer:

Search the world and bring your proof to Harold Mews to claim your reward.

Keep going to the right, past the sign that says "Kites for Rent" and "Fly a Kite for Free" on the Kitty's Kites store.  Go right and pass an advertising screen, exit to the right and continue past gated house numbers 29, 31 and 33.  Notice a bill on the tree, and jump there to get it:

Climb back down the tree. A Vagabond there tells you to stay way from Grimlock if you see her, she is nothing but trouble. If you are interested in his items such as his binoculars or his backpack, you can click on the shirt icon (Customize) then click on the Vagabond and then you can click on the things you want to wear (Selectable items will highlight) or click on the things you want to undo or remove.

Go back left, and return to the General Store. Enter it.  Ask the merchant standing near the lighthouse replicas if you can buy something. Use the $5 bill you found on the tree. It will give you three choices:
I'd like to buy a model lighthouse
Ok, I'd like to buy a Rake, please
Fine, I'll take a sports drink.

Buy the sports drink. The seller tells you it is a wise choice.  You lose the five dollar bill but gain the Sports Drink.  Exit the shop. Go right, and past the tree where you found the five dollar bill. Talk to a old man with a white beard there. Your choices are:
Is this the Harold Mews Mansion?
Can we go inside?
That's weird

Choose the first option. He tells you it sure is the Harold Mews Mansion. Ask if you can go inside.  He replies that nobody's been inside for years and Mews never comes out, and he never sees any visitors.  Tell him that it is weird.  He says he knows, and now that Mews is offering that reward, everyone wants to get in.

Go left, and stop near the gardener next to the bandwagon. Use the sports Drink on him. You tell him that he looks thirsty and give him the sports drink. He thanks you, and asks if you would mind holding the Shears while he takes a break. You receive the following item:

Gardening Shears
Cut it out!

Go left,  past the place where you started on the island, and past Bert's Bed & Breakfast.  Someone in a balloon there will yell "Loch Ness, Here I come". Keep going left. A woman holding a glider asks if you can give her a push. Help her fly, then jump up to the roof above her. Jump onto the balloon. The guy in the balloon tells you that he cannot get his balloon off the ground, and asks you to cut him loose. Use the gardening shears to cut the rope.  You will now receive the following item:

Nylon Rope
A must for many recreational activities.

Go back to the Kitty's Kites Kite Shop. Enter the kite store. Talk to the seller. Ask her if you can try out one of those kites. She asks you to point out the one you'd like to try. If you choose one like the colored one to the left of the kite with the pink pony. She tells you to have fun and remember to bring it back when you are done. You can go try it out, and come back. If you choose the big green kite, Kitesurfer X250, to the right of the sign that says "New! Kitesurfing" -  She tells you that the kite you chose needs stronger string than the regular stuff and they are all out. Use the Nylon Rope to ask her if it is strong enough for the Kitesurfer X250. She tells you it is perfect, and to go ahead and give it a try. Have fun!
