The Witcher 2 Walkthrough Part 35: The Eternal Battle Part 1

Now that you have completed both Hatred Symbolized and Death Symbolized, you can proceed with the next quest, The Eternal Battle. This will mark the first step towards truly freeing the island of the mists that plague it. Although you will have received this quest a long time ago, there really wasn’t much that you could have done at the time to progress with it. Philippa would have just informed you of the four artifacts that you needed to collect. At that point, your progress in this quest would have been barred until you healed Saskia and collected two of the four artifacts.

Now, though, you can finally proceed with the quest. Philippa will have collected the artifacts representing Courage and Faith, so head back to her house from the dwarven catacombs. Speak to her to obtain the other two artifacts. Now you will have everything that you will need to rid the land of the fog. After getting the Courage and Faith artifacts, talk to Philippa again She will tell you that a Draug now controls the visitor’s ghost, meaning that it has changed since the last time you heard of it. The auras emanating from the artifacts should be sufficient in attracting the ghosts to the area, allowing you to take care of the rest.

Follow Philippa to the quest’s start area, outside of the town gates. As soon as you start trying to purify the area, you will be possessed by the ghost of a soldier. Your mission will change to reflect your status. You will now have to capture the enemy army’s standard. This will be located in the middle of the field. Since technically you are now playing as the ghost of someone else, you will lose access to your Witcher abilities momentarily. You will not be able to cast spells, but you can still swing your sword and parry incoming blows. This means that any of the talents that you may have dumped into magic will be temporarily useless, but all of the talents that you have dumped into swordplay will stick. Also note that you will not be able to save the game manually in this section, so you must rely on the game’s autosaves, which mercifully will be pretty frequent.
