Xenoblade Chronicles Guide- Walkthrough Part 12.3: Local Monsters, Part 2

Krabble- Strange creatures like giant hermit crabs, Krabble lurk around beaches during the day, wandering aimlessly.  They take shaped rocks and pieces of junk metal for their shells to protect them from the elements and from enemies, and are fairly slow-moving.

Krabble are natural tanks- they deal very little damage and on their own don’t threaten much.  Unlike Caterpile, they have high defenses instead of scads of hit points, and since they lack the Caterpile’s special attacks, they simply aren’t very dangerous- since you can always run away.  Still, try not to get into fights with them solo.

Colony 9 Region Varieties: Colony Krabble

Brog- Brog are bizarre, finned giant frogs about the size of a human.  The first actually aggressive creature you’re likely to meet, they hang out on beaches at night where Krabble can be found during the day.  They don’t seem to do much, though- probably lying in wait for Antol and Skeeters.

Brog are strong fighters, and while they are less durable than Caterpile, they have far stronger attacks- though they lack special attacks, their base attacks are quite painful.  Definitely not something to fight on your own, you generally want a party of at least two that is the same level or higher level.

Colony 9 Region Varieties: Cute Brog

Armu- Armu are strange creatures standing about the size of an ox.  That and their broad shoulders and quadrupedal nature put one in mind of most beasts of burden- except where ox are bovines, Armu are essentially huge armodillos.  They tend to gather together both when grazing and when threatened.

In combat, one Armu is actually a bit less dangerous than a Brog, though they won’t attack first like a Brog will.  However, if an Armu sees another Armu near it under attack, it will come to help- and Armu can always call out for other Armu that are farther away.  Some method of pulling Armu away from each other is generally a good idea because of this.

Colony 9 Region Varieties: Baby Armu

Flamii- Tall, lanky-legged birds resembling flamingoes only with less pink, Flamii are found in shallow water and on coastlines.  Yet another inoffensive creature of the Colony 9 region, Flamii rarely fly and generally ignore people.

Flamii are a dangerous thing in combat- not because a Flamii is a threatening foe, but because attacking one Flamii draws the attention of all the Flamii nearby, and you can find yourself quickly overwhelmed by a small flock of stilt-birds attacking you.  Be careful when attacking Flamii for any reason.

Colony 9 Region Varieties: Lake Flamii

Piranhax- The first aquatic creature you’re likely to see in the game, Piranhax behave a lot like piranha.  They usually appear in small groups, and are actually not prone to attacking at random.  If provoked, though, you will want to be very careful- never let your fights wander into the shallow water where they lurk.

In combat, Piranhax are vicious- they have the ability to cast a Strength Up boost on themselves in combat, and are pack fighters like Flamii- so if you’re going to fight one, you’re going to fight all of them that are nearby.  Disturbingly, stepping out of the water for a breather doesn’t work very well- Piranhax have a ranged attack they use on anyone trying to escape them by stepping out of the water, and it has fairly good range.  So be careful, because the fact that they can’t leave the water won’t provoke you if you grab their attention.  You also need to be careful because *you* can’t fight in deep water, but they can.
