Your time with the Ghosts will begin on overwatch duty, looking down upon a suspicious convoy from the cliffs of Nicaragua with the rest of your squad. This short introduction level will be largely used for tutorial, but it will also serve to set up the story for the rest of the game’s twelve missions. As the convoy winds its way around the streets below, your team will spring into action. With a few shots, the drivers of the trucks will be taken out and the convoy will crash and crumple against itself. As the cars crash, the Ghosts will bring the sights of their weapons to bear. You will take a straggling enemy into your scope. All you have to do here is hit the shoulder button when the game tells you to do so to put a bullet through the enemy. Quickly after the synchronized attack, you will deploy smoke and the Ghosts will rappel down from their position on the cliff to the street below.
You and your team will advance towards the car in the back of the convoy through the smoke and chaos of the crash. As in most shooters, you will use the left stick to move, the right stick to aim and look around, the left trigger to aim your weapon, and the right trigger to fire your weapon. Perform each of these actions as the tutorial commands you to in order to progress through the cars. A smokescreen will cloud your vision; for now, the game will automatically activate your thermal vision goggles, but in later missions you will have to do this manually.
Use your thermal vision to target the enemies farther down the road and eliminate them with the help of your squad. You will be equipped with a fully automatic rifle for the purposes of this and many other missions, but it’s important to understand the philosophy of firing your weapons so that you may succeed later on in the campaign. Even when using a fully automatic weapon, you should always try to fire in short bursts so that the recoil from your gun being fired doesn’t take over and influence your aim too heavily. Take down the two enemies in your path and approach the rear of the convoy to trigger a cutscene.
The Ghosts will open up the back of the last truck in the convoy to find a warhead stashed inside. Someone was trying to smuggle weapons through the border of Nicaragua. A wrench will be thrown into the plan when the ringing of a cell phone breaks the silence by the trucks. A light will begin to flash on the warhead in time with the ringing. The phone will trigger the bomb and send the Ghosts flying back as the trucks of the convoy are carried away by the force of the explosion. This ambush will lead directly into the main story, beginning with the first proper mission, covered in the next guide.
