Sadly, all shulk is able to do at Otharon’s question is shake his head. Still upset over this, Sharla turns and walks a short distance away while Otharon mulls things over. Shulk stays where he is, looking over Juju carefully as the two Colony 6 survivors stand together.
Otharon offers Sharla Gadolt’s rifle, which she takes in hand quietly. After a few moments of silence, Reyn says it’s time to return to camp. Shulk pitches in that Juju needs medical attention. Sharla points out the freight elevator, which is on the fourth platform that the mining rig’s lower rotary arms reach and says that the route from there is easy, as long as the lift is actually working. Reyn says that they’ll know when they get there, to which Sharla can only offer that sometimes Reyn just makes her laugh.
Nonplused, the redhead points out that he’s right. Sharla agrees, saying that they need to keep going and not sweat the details.
You’re handed control back for now, and there’s something new in your inventory- Gadolt’s Rifle. This wouldn’t be noteworthy, except that it’s actually a very good rifle- particularly since it has three Ether Gem slots. You’re going to want to have Sharla equip it- right now- and slot it out however you like.
There’s a bit of a breather here, and you should use it to the fullest extent- check on Arts and equipment, make sure everyone’s prepared how you like and ready for whatever may come. Also, make sure you have some spare time- there’s a bit of a lengthy segment coming up.
Once you’ve got all that sorted out, it’s time to head to the freight elevator platform. As the group stands on the elevator, Shulk inspects the controls and then nods, stating that the elevator is working perfectly. Reyn exclaims about how he said so, as though he had anything at all to do with it- Sharla says everyone’s impressed.
As the elevator heads steadily up the long, diagonal shaft, the group mills about a little- until the thing comes to a sudden halt. Shulk says he doesn’t know, but is getting an unpleasant feeling that they’re about to find out.
What rises past the edge of the elevator looks like it was destined for a scrapheap decades ago- Xord has returned, his steely skin horribly corroded and his systems sparking and arcing electricity almost constantly. He says nothing as he touches down, clearly having trouble holding himself together.
Reyn groans over the Mechon’s reappearance, and Sharla is stunned, but Shulk focuses- he sees this as an opportunity to finally kill the Mechon once and for all.
This fight is far easier than the other fights against Xord- mostly because the corrosion from the ether river has damaged the huge Mechon so badly that he not only isn’t resistant to Topple anymore, he is actually vulnerable to regular weapon attacks. While he’s large enough to reach across most of the elevator, he’s even slower than before. Bizarrely, he has a new attack to unleash- it doesn’t seem to have a name, but each time he’s about to use it he declares ‘I’ll kill the lot of ya!’ The attack itself is a forward charge that doesn’t slam anyone back, but instead runs over them, causing repeated damage to anyone who’s directly in his path. If you were able to handle the last fight with Xord, this one simply won’t give you any trouble.
