Xenoblade Chronicles Guide- Walkthrough Part 106: How Complimentary

Now that you’ve made it through the Ether Mine and the area South of Colony 6, you’ve probably got the affinities of Shulk, Reyn, and Sharla up pretty high- which enables (at last) one of the Heart-to-Hearts you’ve seen recently- specifically, the conversation between Reyn and Sharla in the Refugee Camp, in the small sub-cave where Sharla and Juju had been staying.

This Heart-to-Heart, ‘What’s on Reyn’s Mind’, requires that Reyn and Sharla have at least Happy Green Square affinity- as with any other Heart-to-Heart and most interactions with the world, it’s triggered by going to the location, getting the icon to pop up, and hitting the ‘A’ button.

The conversation opens with Sharla saying she wants to talk to Reyn.  She starts by saying that she smiles when he calls Juju ‘kid’.  Reyn is surprised by this- apparently he thought she was going to be upset at him.  The medic replies that it reminds her of Gadolt- and that makes her smile.

Still uncomfortable with the way he reminds Sharla of someone else entirely, Reyn asks who would win in a fight between him and Gadolt.

This leaves you with two options to steer the conversation- ‘Gadolt, of course!’ is the negative option- it costs you four Affinity hearts between Sharla and Reyn- though one of these is restored during subsequent conversation.  That particular angle is followed up by the question of who it is that Reyn has never beat in a fight.  You can have Sharla guess that it is Shulk (another -4/+1 affinity option), or select ‘I bet I know...’ to guess that it is a girl- which steers the conversation down a +5 affinity direction.  It also reveals that the person Reyn has never beat in a fight is, in fact, Fiora.

The positive choice for the first option is ‘You, by a whisker’, granting four Affinity hearts as Reyn cheers.  Sharla, of course, then qualifies it by saying that Reyn’s skull is so thick he could live through anything.  Reyn acts a bit offended, which surprises sharla- who insists that she was joking.  Reyn complains about her reasoning, prompting the medic to say it was one of the reasons, not the only reason, why he would manage a win.  Reyn asks her what other stuff he has on his side.

Again, you are presented with two options for Sharla- the second, ‘Give me a second...’ leads the conversation down a negative track , again -4/+1 affinity hearts, as Sharla kind of trails off and leaves rescuing the conversation to Reyn.

The positive choice is for Sharla to say ‘Dignified qualities’- a +4/+1 choice that leads Reyn to ask what qualities he has that are dignified.  After a few moments mulling, Sharla comes up with ‘father figure’, confusing him.  She suggests that maybe he’d be Juju’s father someday.  Reyn doesn’t say anything, realizing that this would make Sharla his daughter, and that feels completely wrong to the redhead.  Sharla teases him for believing what she says too closely.  Reyn stumbles around that, causing Sharla to tell him he makes her laugh, and compare his embarrassment to Gadolt all over again.  Presently, Reyn resolves to consider that ‘almost a compliment’.  Sharla concludes the discussion by saying she likes talking with him, and is glad she met him.
