Persona 4 Arena Basics: Battle Actions

Every character in Persona 4 Arena will have access to a certain subset of basic battle actions. These actions are as follows:

• Jump - Hit up on the D-Pad to jump. Hit diagonally upwards, with your thumb on both the up button and a direction on the D-Pad, to jump diagonally.
• Double Jump - Pressing up on the D-Pad again in the midst of a jump will initiate a double jump
• High Jump - Quickly tap down on the D-Pad, and follow it up with a press up. The high jump is higher than a regular jump, but you cannot double jump during it
• Dash - Hit forward on the D-Pad twice in quick succession to dash forward
• Backstep - Hit backwards on the D-Pad twice in quick succession to backstep
• Aerial Dash - Hit forwards on the D-Pad twice in quick succession while in the air
• Aerial Backdash - Hit backwards on the D-Pad twice in quick succession while in the air
• Weak Attack - Hit the Square button on the PS3 or the X button on the Xbox 360
• Strong Attack - Hit the X button on the PS3 or the A button on the Xbox 360
• Weak Persona Attack - Hit the Triangle button on the PS3 or the Y button on the Xbox 360
• Strong Persona Attack - Hit the O button on the PS3 or the B button on the Xbox 360
• Sweep - Press Square and X simultaneously on the PS3, or the X and A buttons simultaneously on the Xbox 360, while crouching to sweep with a low hit, knocking the enemy to the ground
• Standing Block - Hold back on the D-Pad to block
• Crouching Block - Hold diagonally down and back on the D-Pad to block low attacks
• Aerial Recovery - Hold any attack button when knocked back into the air
• Ground Recovery - Hold any of the attack buttons when knocked to the ground
• Auto Combo - Repeatedly tap the Square button on the PS3 or the X button on the Xbox 360. Hit the button enough, and you will automatically combo into an SP Skill
• All-Out Attack - Press Square and X at the same time on the PS3, or X and A at the same time on Xbox 360, to enter into an All-Out Attack. During this attack, tap Square/X or X/A repeatedly to continue the attack, comboing it into an All-Out Rush. At the end of the All-Out Rush, hit either of the two Persona attack buttons to finish it out with a launcher
• Furious Action - Press the two character attack button simultaneously
• Throw - Hit the two Persona attack buttons at the same time to throw an enemy
• Aerial Throw - Hit the two Persona attack buttons at the same time to throw an enemy while jumping
• Throw Escape - When you see a red and white "!" appear as you are about to be thrown, press the two Persona attack buttons at the same time to escape from the throw
• Evasive Action - Hit the Square and Triangle buttons at the same time on the PS3, or the X and Y buttons at the same time on the Xbox 360, to dodge through an enemy and their attacks
• Hop - Hit down on the D-Pad plus the Square (PS3) or X (360) and Triangle (PS3) or Y (360) buttons to hop towards your opponent
• Skill Boost - Finish a Skill command by pressing the Square and X buttons on the PS3 or the X and A buttons on the Xbox 360 at the same time to boos the power of your skill
• SP Skill - By entering certain commands when you have 50 SP or more, you can use an SP Skill. SP Skills are very powerful, so try to use them when you have the chance
• Awakened SP Skill - By entering certain commands when you are Awakened and have 50 SP or more, you can use an Awakened SP Skill. Though they are only available while Awakened, Awakened SP Skills can potentially turn the tide of a fight
• Reversal Burst - Press all three of the upper attack buttons (no X or A) when an opponent is attacking you to reverse the attack to stun and knock back the enemy
• Max Burst - Press all three of the upper attack buttons when the BURST Gauge is full to use a Max Burst, which will fill your SP Gauge should it connect with the enemy
• Guard Cancel - During a block, hit forward and the Square and X buttons to attack out of your block
• Instant Block - Hit back on the D-Pad right before an attack hits to counter
• Super Cancel - During a Skill command, input the command again to cancel
• Instant Kill - Costs 100 SP
