Metal Gear Rising Walkthrough Part 31 – R-05: Escape From Denver (Mall)

Here, Raiden has the option of sneaking past 5 Tripods or outright engaging them. It is a challenging to do but plausible. It just means a lot of weaving from one side to another and a lot of usage of AR to ensure that you are tracking all the Tripods properly. Still, the next part is a lot easier if you have wiped out the Tripods.

When Raiden gets to the top of the stairs, he will trigger a checkpoint and for good reason. In the center of the plaza at the base of the Stairs is one of the Double Tripods. Immediately turn around and run back toward the last corner. Keep to the side of the Mall with the Trees. This will obscure the line of sight ot Raiden from the Slider that will go by. It will likely trigger a caution but as long as it does not trigger an alert, you are fine. After that head back to the top of the stairs. Pull out your RPG and fire onto the Double Tripod in the center of the plaza. It will take 2 Rockets but it will take it out and add it to your collection. After that head on down the stairs to start the next Ranked Battle.

Ranked Battle 3: 7 Tripods, (2 Sliders); 2 Raptors
This is a battle that can be done a number of ways. If you wait it out, the Sliders will leave. It is more than possible to slip all the way through without triggering any aggression. If you can make it to the final tripod without triggering an alert, likely you can avoid the Raptors as well. Otherwise, pull out the Pole-Arm and apply that liberally to both the Tripods and the Raptors. This is a great way to quickly build up a high number of hits. After that you want to get Zandastsu kills on the 2 Rapots to get those numbers up. Be sure to also get the Holo-Chip (M) that sits at the bottom of the stairs to the East. Opposite that you will find a Repair Nanopaste.

After that fight head on down the walkway and over to the balcony. There are two things to do here and some of them conflict for a single attempt. The first is getting ID Chip (26) and the second is rescuing the final hostage. Thanks tothe GRAD Unit alone, it is very important to handle things appropriately and carefully. First you have the Cyborg standing Sentry on the Balcony. Approach and take him down with a Ninja Kill and immediately retreat to lose the interest the GRAD likely has gained in you. Equip the EMP Grenades and throw them over to the left of the GRAD where you see the 2 Cyborgs standing over the man. Now run down the stairs to the left. With this set up you will have minimal concerns about stray bullets or splash damage killing the civilian. After that it is just a matter of dealing with the GRAD and the Cyborgs using the Pole-Arm. While it is possible to get the ID Chip and save the Civilian here, it is not recommended because it is too easy to kill the cyborg accidently.

With that all dealt with head on through the Mall, cutting through the barrier. From there it is time to do a little more stealth. There are 3 Mastiffs to sneak around and take down. One is there initially but the remaining 2 are dropped off as Raiden approaches the area. Time for more stealth killing. Go to the far end of the APC and wait there for the closest Mastiff to turn its back. Move in for a Ninja Kill after that. From there it is a simple matter fo moving through and getting them one at a time. There is a little more to do here so head on over to the left and get ready to slice through the Metal Shutter on the Southern Wall where, with AR, you see a single Cyborg standing. Cut through and take him out quickly. Go deeper into the building to find a locked chest with a Holo-Chip (L) and VR Terminal 18. Tap the VR Terminal to trigger the "Hidden" and final Ranked fight of this File.

Ranked Battle 4: 3 Mastiffs
This is not a hard battle to deal with, it is only if you after an S-Rank that this fight is very hard as it has high BP and Combo Requirements. Use Offensive Defense to get avoid the attacks and just take them all down one at a time, preferably using Zandatsu.

From here just head out of the building and through the barrier. This will get Raiden onto the next file. Time for a Showdown.
