Climb up the vines over to the rocks and continue on upward. This will hav the survivor call Harlow and explain that the Marina is completely overrun with the Infected. This means a lot of zombie killing to get at the boat itself now. It is best to had to the North and go through the proper village entrance so you can get a better idea of the undead forces you will need to cut through.

Also you will want to make a quick detour to the North. You will need to defeat another Thug, which is a challenge right now, but you will find Luke. He needs some help to escape from the horde that is nearby. It also means you have rescued another survivor.. Head int othe village after that and get to work on finding your boat.

When you get inside the village you can head over to the left and find a raised area if you need some help with the initial Walkers and Suicider that come at you. Be sure to have some ranged option available quickly to deal with the Suicider else he will just destroy you. If you want an easier time head on over to the river and start walking over to the East. This will lead you straight to an intact boat. Where the motor is a mystery. This means you need to find the thing. As you explore this area you will likely encounter a Floater and a number of Suiciders so be careful.

It is time to start hunting down the boat engine. Head across the river to the North and be ready for a lot of fighting. You have another Floater with 2 Suiciders on hand. Head to the Northeastern corner of the area and pull out some Molotovs. You will find one of the best crafting places in the early game here. The problem is it is absolutely covered in Walkers, with a Suicider and a Thug thrown in for good measure .Take a little time to loot the area, perform any upgrades you can and then leave so you are going to the South.

Head to the South from the Boat and into the building up the stairs from the last one. Be careful as there can be a Suicider in here so have something ranged (or throwable) on hand. Loot this area for more health, if needed and press on South. This will eventually lead you to the Workshop you are after. Now you just need to get inside head. Head over to the left and around the first fence. You will see some planks that form an angular bridge. Follow that over to the right.

Deal with the trio fo Walkers that assault you as you get over to the Western side of the walkway. One will raise up while the other 2 come charing from the South. Keep alon the walkway and head over to the right, going into the small room. Deal with any Walkers in this room then go up the stairs, carefully. There are a few more Walkers up in this area and a Suicider. Kill the Walkers and get at the Suicider as soon as you get the clean shot. Head over to the East then turn South again, taking the stairs down. You have a few more Walkers to deal with but nothing more than that thankfully. Head over to the Eastern side of the building, find the ladder and climb up onto the roof of the Workshop.

Once on the roof you need to head over tothe Southwestern corner and find the hole in it. Drop through there and you will find yourself inside the workshop. Explore until you find the Thug. At this point get up onto any of the counters in the Southern part of the room, preferably near where you came through, and start lobbing Molotovs or other thrown/ranged weapons at him.

With the Thug dead, search the area around you. There are a number of items you can add into your stocks, and potentially a modification for your weapons as well. Search the Southeastern corner of the shop to find the boat engine you need. Grab it and take it to the Northwestern corner of the workshop. Set the engine down and remove the barricade that is blocking your way out. Grab the engine again and start on you way back to the boat.

With the engine in hand you need to head back to the Boat in the Northern part of town. Having the engine in tow slows your character considerably. This means that whenever you come under attack you need to immediately drop the engine (or throw it at the zombie for a little more damage) and fend all the zombies off. Just carefully make your way back to the boat. Turn to the end of it and install the motor. Yo uare ready to start traveling on the boat. Still, this is a good time to go to the nearby fast travel point and turn in any Team Quests you can or start on some of the side quests that have built up.
