I'm still working through Wolf, still enjoying it, still not quite sold on it as much as most people were, though. Something about it just doesn't fit right and the switch to cutscenes jars every time. Still, the shooting is great and the story isn't rubbish either.
Aside from more Wolf I've been playing whatever old cartridge games I can get my hands on via the RetroN 5. Pilotwings on SNES is still pretty fun, Bubsy is Bubsy, and Wrestlemania is awful. Dave brought in loads of his old games, so I gave Aladdin on Mega Drive a quick go to check it's still good, and it is. Less good is Perfect Dark on the Game Boy Color, which is impressive given the machine it's running on, but less good when you judge it as a game.
Continuing my new rule of only playing things I can get through PS Plus, I felt it was time to try out Apotheon. With Rogue Legacy finished, I hoped its Greek mythology ways would put a smile on my face and sooth my heart.
I wasn’t wrong either. While not as addictive as the aforementioned rogue-like, Apotheon is a 2D side-scroller that feels like it transported itself from the early nineties. It’s obviously far prettier and expands on what you’d expect from a game like this with its crafting and inventory systems, but at its most simple all you’re asked to do is find a weapon and smack people over the head with it.
On top of this, Alien Trap has seen fit to weave a decent story between all the killing. It’s certainly not going to win any awards (nor is it as entertaining as God Of War’s) but it’s enough to make what is essentially an ‘indie platformer’ feel far bigger than it has any right to be.
Throw in a load of familiar faces, such as Aries, and Apotheon is alright with me. Between Rogue Legacy, The Swapper and now this, Sony’s subscription service has inspired me to start completing games again. Thanks PS Plus!
I played that Pneuma game, yeah. It was OK. I like the ending. I reviewed it and everything, if you can believe that. You should check it out. Be warned: Pneuma contains no guns, no swearing, no football, no perks, no instant replays, no blue hedgehogs, no references to towers or collectibles. But you should still check it out, especially if you like walking around in Greco-Roman architecture while being babbled at.
Also: Resident Evil.
I’ve been putting a lot of time into Destiny lately, and the latest 1.1.1 has made some big changes that’s helped many areas of the game. For me, the biggest impact has been in PvE,where I can finally make use of my shiny new shotgun.
With shotguns getting a double damage boost, I’ve been able to start using my Legendary Secret Handshake (not a euphemism, what the gun is actually called), but being stuck in a grind - getting my Light level up from 26 to 32 - I’m still doing the dog work, which is taking forever. But ahead of the next DLC launch in a couple of months, I’ll be more than ready, as will my Legendary Secret Handshake… I’m not sure if THAT one was a euphemism.
