Battlefield Hardline Multiplayer Guide

With Battlefield Hardline’s multiplayer bringing several new modes and faster gameplay, we’ve put together a series of quick tips for new players to get started, either fighting the law or taking down bad guys.

Stay out of the open

Players die quickly because they run through open spaces. Some maps are better than others at providing buildings and cover to move between. For the rest, you’ll need to be smart, and choose when to sprint between hiding spots carefully.

Running in the open means you’re easy pickings. If you do have to make a break for it, make sure you have a look around before making a run, and clear the area first.

Clear your corners

You’ll often get killed because you failed to clear a room. Whenever you enter, make sure to check the corners, and when on the move check all corners of your screen for any foes lurking in the nooks and crannies. Battlefield is full of campers hiding in the most unexpected of places, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled for those hiding in the shadows.

Choose a class to suit the map and mode

Make sure that you’re equipped for the game mode you’re going into. At the start of multiplayer the Operator is the best all-round selection for those not versed with specialist weapons like snipers and shotguns. In the smaller maps and modes, like Crossfire and Rescue, then SMGs are a much more viable options.

With the cash-based system, it’ll take time before you can earn enough to begin crafting your class to how you see fit.

Save your money

Hardline’s unlock system is based on earning cash to spend on new equipment. Everything you do earns money which you can spend on new weapons, attachments or perks. Don’t spend too soon, though; save up your cash to buy better equipment that suits your play style. Also, guns are naturally more expensive than anything else, so it’ll take longer to earn these.

Pay attention to where you spawn

In some game modes, you can choose the location where you’ll be respawned. If you choose to spawn on a player, keep an eye on the monitor in the lower left of the screen, as this will show where they currently are, and more importantly, if they’re currently being shot at. Spawning blind in the middle of a gunfight will almost certainly lead you straight back to the re-deploy screen. Make sure you know what you’re getting into when you jump into the match.

Play the objective

There’s only one Team Deathmatch, every other has a different objective. Make sure that your actions help your team towards completing that objective. Of course, you can kill as many players on the opposition team on the way, but don’t simply spend your time killing opponents without helping get the win.

Hunt in packs

It’s much easier dealing with straddlers on the opposing team when you travel in a group. When the odds are in your favour, 99% of the time, you win. Also, and don’t tell your teammates this, but the chances are you won’t be shot at if there’s more people for the enemy to aim at.

Keep an eye out for special weapons

LMGs and rocket launchers are no longer equippable in the character menu, but are found in the map itself. If you stumble across any of these, and aren’t surrounded by opponents, grab them. Both weapons are really good at taking on crowds and doing damage to vehicles, so even if you can only use them for a brief spell, it’s worth it.

The only trouble is switching back to your regular gun will drop the special weapon, so keep that in mind.
