Hearthstone: Unlocking the Arena Game Mode

Hearthstone, the first free-to-play title developed and published by Blizzard, has various game modes for you to try out. We have gathered helpful information to give you a look inside the Arena, a battleground that poses unique challenges and gives the card game much replayability. Don't worry about going up against more experienced players, as you will only be facing heroes whose rating is similar to yours.

Choosing a Hero

We'd wanna play Garrosh. How about you?

To start things off, you will be presented with a choice of three heroes from the total nine. Picking one shouldn't be too hard. We'd recommend going with the one you have the most experience with. There's one thing you should keep in mind, though - every choice is permanent and cannot be changed until you re-queue for another Arena challenge.

Build-and-Battle

Choose wisely.

You'll be offered a trio of cards: One can be added to your deck, the other two will be discarded. Rinse and repeat thirty times and voilà, that's the cards you get to play with. This forces players to choose a never before seen deck and make up new strategies as they go. Whoever has the most success in using a random combination of 30 cards will be victorious.

Instead of any other run-of-the-mill battle, you will have to prove your knowledge in building efficient decks and using cards that are not part of your personal collection. The idea behind the Arena game mode is easy: Crush your opponent with the cards you've been given by Blizzard!

Entry Fee

Entering the Arena will cost you gold coins or real-life money. It's up to you which currency you want to pay with, but we would recommend playing Hearthstone a little bit before taking a step into this particular game mode. That'll give you enough gold pieces to check out the Arena for free.

Losing three times will get you kicked out of the battleground, forcing you to pay another entry fee upon re-entering. This will also reset the choices you have made about your hero and deck of cards. Same goes for winning nine times, as that is the overall limit before you will automatically be escorted out of the Arena by Orcs. Not really, but that'd be fun!

Special Rewards

The more wins, the flashier the key.

Winning a round will upgrade your key and significantly improve the quality of all future rewards. Boosting a key with nine charges will grant you access to the Grand Master Key and increase the chance of being rewarded with Gold, Arcane Dust, rare cards or entire packs.
