If you’ve played the hit game Subways Surfers, then you’re already familiar with the Danish Development company Kiloo. Well get ready, because they’ve just released a brand new game that could be even bigger. Described as a fast paced hack’n’slash, I can thoroughly agree on this.
The development company seems to be totally set on completely commandeering many various genres within the mobile gaming industry, which is something that you can definitely see if you take a look at their current successes, especially considering that the success of Subways Surfers actually cause the company to be names the Growth Company of the year by various Danish media outlets. With genres like the RPG and endless runners already under their belt they wanted to try something entirely new.
In Stormblades, y0ou’ll need to have quick reflexes and the ability to make snap decisions as you’ll be slashing your way through the hordes of enemies that are trying to kill you. One thing is for sure, this game is going to get your pulse racing.
For all intents and purposes, Stormblades is essentially a casual version of the ever popular Infinity Blade. You’ll swing your sword, chop up huge monsters and have fun while doing it. During the game, you’ll have a variety of minster thrown at you, this really adds to the ever changing pace of the game because you never really know what you’ll be fighting next or how difficult it will be to beat. Obviously, the whole free to play kind of makes the game lose a little of what Infinity Blade offered, but the game definitely add its own unique feel to the reimagining.
Currently, the game is running version 1.0.2 and requires your device to be running iOS version 8.0 or anything later. Since this is a VERY new game, you should expect to see a variety of bugs that didn’t quite get ironed out in the beta phase, so anything you do notices that even hinders you slightly from fully enjoying the game, make note of it and report it to the developers via the appropriate channels such as their Facebook page, by tweeting them or by sending them a good old fashioned email, by doing this developers will take note of the issue and likely fix it in a future update, so don’t be afraid to point out anything you notice. The game currently only supports the use of the English language, but as it gains more popularity, support for many other languages will most likely be added, even so, the game is mostly action based and easy to get the hang of, so even if you don’t understand English, you should still be able to enjoy the game. the game can be downloaded for free from the app store with the option to purchase further in app content. The game currently has a four star rating on the app store and has mostly received fairly positive reviews so far, although this could change quickly as the game is merely days old. The game has been praised for its lack of energy system and its fast paced action.
There isn’t really much in terms of in app purchases, the premium currency used in game is essence, to buy a box of essence, it will cost you $4.99. Other essence packs are also available to purchase. Essence can be used to get bigger and better weapons and can also make your existing weapon even stronger.

In Stormblades, you are playing as a new warrior, hell bent on proving your worth against the mysterious Keepers, you job is to survive as you battle your way through hordes of deadly enemies.
The first thing you’ll want to learn when playing this game is that you should always give it your best shot and go all out when battling an enemy, be relentless, because otherwise you will end up dead. While it’s still important to counter the enemy attacks, you’ll actually get more points if you’re able to take down the enemy quickly, because of this, you should hack at them as much as you can when you’ve got an opening to do so. Even when you don’t have an opening to attack efficiently, you’ll still be able to chip a little of their health off and you’ll also manage to scratch at their armor to some degree, which in turn will allow you to deal more damage on your proper hits.
Make sure you’re constantly paying attention to how the enemy is moving, anticipating their attacks can always give you a great edge. If you’re able to counter your enemies attacks in succession, you will end up leaving them in a vulnerable position. Pay attention to the arm movements of the enemies as this can be a great indicator of which direction the enemy is going to attack, once you notice them about to move their arms, just swipe in the direction they are moving as quickly as you can and as much as you can, you don’t really need to time this perfectly, so as long as you’re swiping, anything will work.
If you want to pull off a power strike, swinging from the bottom of the screen is what you’ll need to do. To know when you’ve met the conditions to pull off a power strike, you should notice three downward pointing blue arrows; this means that you’ll need to swipe down to get the stronger attack. Pay attention to which way the arrows are pointing as swiping in any other direction will cancel the strike, meaning that you lose the chance to make the hit. Whenever you cause your enemy to become vulnerable, you should always try to do make a downward attack as this will occasionally work as a power strike, this will not work every time, so don’t become overly reliant on this method of dealing damage.
As you work through the game, you’ll manage to get new weapons when you complete particular levels, these will usually be a little more powerful than your previous weapon and will work really well for you for a few levels. Keep this in mind when considering using your essence to make your starting weapon even stronger, you’re only going to get a stronger weapon in a few levels time anyway, so why bother spending your essence when you don’t really need to? Hoard your essence for as long as you can so that when you really do need to level up your weapon or even buy a brand new weapon, you’ll have plenty to be able to do so. The weapons that can be bought from the shop are a hell of a lot stronger than any weapon that you’ll find normally within the game, they will also have special bonuses on them like critical and brutality abilities. In addition to the special abilities, they will also have a much larger upgrade path so that they can be made so much stronger than any other weapons you might already own through casual gameplay.
After each run through of the level, you’ll be awarded a particular score, these scores are determined by three different factors; the time it takes you to complete your fights – the quicker you take down your opponent, the more points you’ll get- , How flawless your fights have been – taking out an enemy with taking zero damage will give you a lovely number of points, the number of which is usually 100 points -, and finally the health bonus, this points booster will only apply to the fights with level bosses, depending on how much health you have left over once you’ve defeated the boss, you’ll gain a points bonus.
Once you got a really awesome weapon, a good idea is to revisit any earlier leves that you didn’t do so well on and totally decimate them. For each level, you can gain at most three relics, the amount of relics you receive relies of what kind of score you come out with, the higher the score you’ve gotten, the more relics you’ll get for the level. When it comes to some harder levels, you aren’t always going to get all three relics, so it’s a good idea to go back to those once you’ve gotten a better weapon. Since you’ll be able to get through the level a whole lot quicker, even make some one hit kills, you’ll get a lovey time bonus on your points total, and voila, you’ve got all three relics.
Stormblades mostly follows the same kind of gameplay that Infinity Blade did; you are a fresh faced adventurer wanting to prove yourself, so you’re running through dangerous areas, looking for some big monster that you can take down to make yourself look awesome.
Want to block an attack? Sorry, no can do. You’ll have to parry any attacks with swipes and double taps to avoid the nastiest of attacks. Once you’ve managed to stun the enemy, you can swipe like a mad man in hopes of dealing some hefty damage.
Really, about all there is to the game, there isn’t really much of a focus of gearing yourself up; you just have your sword which you can make stronger with the use of the cash you earn by killing stuff. So really, the aim is to kill stuff, make money, so you can make your sword better, so you can kill stuff easier and make money easier, etc., etc…
You are able to destroy special gold pots that will give you bonus cash and there is an actual scoring system, so the game does hold some competitive edge, whereby you work at the game to try and beat yourself.
Stormblades definitely looks awesome, but for anyone looking for a game with a little depth, this game probably isn’t really for you. After a short period of time, Stormblades kind of loses its charm and doesn’t really feel as fun anymore, especially when you hit a grind barrier or you feel like to really succeed, you’ll have to buy premium currency. At this point, unless you’re really dedicated to playing the game, you’d probably be better off switching to something that actually has substance to it.
Although I will say that before you do hit this point, any time you do spend playing the game will be enjoyable, full of insane violence and satisfaction that comes with taking down a hardcore boss. Since the game is a free one, really you can’t complain and it’s definitely worth a try, even if just for a short period of time.
Artwork: I give Stormblades a 9/10 for its artwork. The artwork in this game is actually very beautifully done; especially in comparison to Kiloo’s other games. The graphics look great and everything is beautifully designed. It isn’t overdone and a lot of the detail which has been added is very subtle.
Music and SFX: I give the game an 8/10 for its music and sfx. The music in this game provides it with a great sense of pace, because the fights can be a little hectic at times, the fact that music is there in the background allows you to really pace yourself. The sound effects aren’t really much to write home about and are mostly just stereotypical battle noises, but they do fit into the game very nicely and gives the game a better sense of ambience.
General Gameplay: I give the game a 3/10 for its general gameplay. From all the hype around the release of this game, I was expecting something absolutely amazing, but come release day I was incredibly disappointed. You’d imagine that most bugs would have been ironed out in the beta phase so that players would actually be able to play the game properly, but alas, I encountered so much freeing and even crashing that I wasn’t really able to even stand the gameplay for all that long. I imagine that it would have been a whole lot more fun if I had actually been able to play the game properly.
Story and Originality: I give the game a 5/10 for its story and originality. So I really quite like the story behind this game, unfortunately, it’s a story that you don’t actually find out from within the game itself, I only knew the story because I actually read up on the game before I downloaded it. I feel like the game could have really benefited from including its story within it, but I suppose the developers had their reasons for excluding it. In terms of originality, this game plays very much like Infinity Blade, so I can’t really say it’s entirely original, sure it’s great for a game for the mobile platform, but really there are very few differences between the two games. If I wanted to play Infinity Blade, I’d just go play it, I don’t need half assed copies on the app store.
Addictiveness: I give the game a 2/10 for addictiveness. I can definitely see how this game could be considered as an addictive one, but due to the fact that I could hardly play for much longer than an hour or so, I didn’t really get addicted. I think I’d be willing to give the game another chance once its run issues have been fixed in a future update.
Overall I give Stormblades a 5/10. I may revisit this game again in a few months, just to see whether or not is has improved.

Kiloo describes the game as a “fast paced hack’n’slash sword fighting action game” and from the majority of videos I’ve seen of the gameplay, it looks pretty intense.
Danish developer Kiloo seems hell bent on dominating multiple genres, especially if you take a look at their current successful portfolio. Kiloo’s most well known game Subway Surfers allowed Kiloo to be named the Growth Company of the Year by Danish media. Killo soon came out with the beast fighting/management game Smash Champs and now a game in the genre of RPG, these guys seem to be intention getting attention from multiple angles .Unlike many game companies, Kiloo isn’t just working with what has worked for them in the past, the recognize their success then move on to something new. I wish more developers were like this as we would have such a better variety of games and apps available to us instead of clone after clone of every single game in the world.
StormBlades is scheduled it hit the App Store and Play store sometime in March this year, a specific date hasn’t been announced and all we know is that it’s going to happen within the next month. You will be playing as the main character and protagonist of the game, you’ll be wielding a pretty badass sword, with which you’ll use to take out hordes of monsters. You are on a mission to prove your ability to your tribe, so you’re heading on a dangerous quest into the depths of some nefarious ruins.
Quick reflexes and thinking is a must in this game as you’ll need to slash your way through any enemies that come your way, you’ll come across champion fighters and deadly bosses, this is a game that is sure to get your heart pumping.
