Nemo was the only one who survived, leaving Nemo’s father devastated. Now on Nemo’s first day of school, Marlin, Nemo’s father, and him got into an argument and Nemo went on a dare. Skipping all the action and suspense, basically Nemo got caught by humans and Marlin had to go on a quest to go find and rescue Nemo. Along the way, Marlin meets lots of wonderful people, such as Dory, and overcome his fears. Such a heartwarming story isn’t it?
In this game, Nemo’s Reef, you are joining Nemo and his father, Marlin, on an new adventure! Nemo has a school assignment to showcase the coolest reef to his class! You, the player, can continue Nemo’s story from the movie, Finding Nemo, and create and personalize your very own underwater home. You can make reef’s home for all of Nemo and Marlin’s friend, including Dory, Gill, Bloat, and Bubbles! Besides building your reefs, you are also able to collect over more than 50 kinds of fish to make your reef more beautiful! You are also able to visit your friend’s reefs and compare your collection of fish with them! Along the way, you are also able to discover and plant rare seeds to attract rare and mysterious fishes!

These include but are not limited to Orange Tubes, Blue Mushrooms, and Eggshell Coral. You would also need to make sure that you keep a good stash of algae and sand dollars because these can stop you in the middle of a quest. Later in the game when you acquire mystery seeds, you should plant them in batches to see which would harvest a rare plant. The rare one will sparkle and they will not give you a new plant species every time. So don’t be surprised if you get the same old rare plant you harvested two days ago!
There are several ways to attract rare fishes. One of them is to plant rare plants and the other is to grow algae. For example, if you grow 8 different new rare plants you will attract the Yellow Pajama Cadinal fish, if you grow 10 rare plants in 24 hours, you will get the Red Clown Frogfish, collect 4000 sand dollars in 48 hours, you will get a Yellow Trumpetfish, and lastly, harvest 10,000 algae in 48 hours, you will get the Short Red Seamoth. Other beautiful fishes you can get when you plant the Blue Thalassodendron is the Blue Emperor Angelfish. When you plant the rare plant, Orange Feather Star, you will get the Short Orange Seamoth. This list can go on forever, so just try your luck!
My overall thought of this game, Nemo’s Reef is that it is cute and very worth time playing. My initial thought was that how could Disney make Finding Nemo even more attractive? Well, growing coral reefs apparently. This game is similar to farming, except it’s much more fun because you get to interact with more people and you also need to mix and match rare plants to gain rare fishes. With this game updating everyday, you will experience new fishes and territories each day. The amount of people downloading and playing Nemo’s Reef is also increasing by day, so you are bound to meet new friends by playing this game. If you introduce Nemo’s Reef to your friends, via Facebook or email, you can get in game bonuses as well!
Although Nemo’s Reef has the option for you to connect to Facebook, if parents would not like their child to do so, they have the permission to restrict them from this feature.

Although this game is heavily based upon the success of the movie, Finding Nemo, the game is a totally separate concept. You do not get any spoilers related to the movie and people who have never seen it before will be tempted to see it after playing the game. The graphics are wonderful and vibrant. The artwork really reminds you of the bottom of the ocean floor. The music is serene and calm, making users enjoy the game even more. I love how Disney brought out the original cast, Marlin, Nemo, and Dory. Did you know Disney is currently in production of making a sequel, about Dory? Another reason why you should get onto this game if you haven’t already!
The biggest problems when playing Nemo’s Reef is that people are complaining that the game crashes or doesn’t load. This really negatively affects Nemo’s Reef because you would want people to play your game right? A second con would be how when people collect sand dollars and algae, they aren’t credited on the account. One of the biggest problems in Nemo’s Reef would be the insane amount of number of algae you have to farm in order to get one rare fish. Another issue would be how small the player is able to receive in game bonuses for interacting with others. Disney should allow more actions to be done with other player’s reefs, so they can gain more sand dollars, XP points, and algae, rather than only 5.
Artwork: 8/10 for the beautiful and realistic artwork! If you aren’t able to go to the oceanside to go under diving yourself to see the elegant ocean, then this game will allow you to explore it without costing you a fortune! Nemo’s Reef artwork is realistic and it includes real corals and fishes so young children can learn about them. Being exposed to Nemo’s Reef at a young age would enable children to take better care of the Earth, they will be brought upon the knowledge that littering is bad for our planet Earth. If we don’t take care of our litter, there will be no more beautiful fishes on this Earth! Nemo’s Reef brings in an educational factor as well as good morals for young children.
Music & SFX: 7/10 for the serene music and SFX! The music is as beautiful as the art, however, I do wish that I could either turn the music off at times because listening it with headphones does hurt the ear a bit. On the side note, maybe Disney could consider offering people to download the background music as it is really calming and soothing.
Story & Originality: 8/10 for story and originality! There hasn’t been any other under the sea farming games to my knowledge in the market. So this is fairly new. I also give props to Disney for making a game based off of it’s movie, Finding Nemo, and not having a lot of connection to it. A lot of times, spin off games of movies are rather boring because you are just playing as the protagonist and trying to change the story. In Nemo’s Reef, this is very fun and original because Disney doesn’t try to do that.
General Gameplay: 9/10 for General Gameplay! Nemo’s Reef was direct, and straightforward with what they wanted you to do and accomplish. There was no super long in game tutorials like many games. The simple concept was easy to understand and allowed you to dive right into the game!
Addictiveness: 7/10 for addictiveness factor. I took a couple of points off because the game often freezes, crashes, or it doesn’t credit the player! Disney needs to fix this!
Overall Rating: 7/10 for Nemo’s Reef! A game does not need to be completely new and innovative, as you can see in Nemo’s Reef, just make it simple and enjoyable and you will have a hit game!
