About Airport City
Before you start playing Airport City, you can either log in with your Facebook to be able to play with your friends and compare airports and scores. If you do not have a Facebook account but you do want to compare airports and scores with other players, you have the ability to create and sign in with a Game Insight account. This way you can still invite your friends to play Airport City and you can still compare high scores. If you rather want to play the game by yourself, you can also play as a guest, which doesn’t require you to log in at all.
After you have decided how you want to play Airport City, a nice small tutorial will start. This tutorial shows you how to construct buildings and runways and teaches you the basics of how to send out airplanes. Airport City has a pretty straightforward gameplay.
What you need to do is bring passengers to the terminal and send them out on airplanes to their destinations. At the beginning of your gameplay, your passenger limit will be very low (thirty passengers could wait at the terminal) but you can upgrade buildings so the limit gets raised. You collect new passengers by tapping on the suitcases about homes and they will automatically be at the terminal. After you have an airplane available, you can put it on the runway after which you need to fuel it up and board the plane with those passengers. It takes some time for the airplane to return but in the meanwhile you can check out other things in your airport/city.
After you successfully complete a mission, you will be awarded gold coins, which you can in turn use to upgrade your airport and your city. You will soon learn that you have very limited space and that you can purchase more land surrounding your airport and city to be able to construct more buildings.
The basic summary for the goal of Airport City would be that you send passengers to their destination by airplane, construct more buildings and upgrade your city and airport. After that you can build more terminals and runways, purchase more airplanes and send more passengers to their destinations. Turn your single runway airfield into a big international hub and be the richest owner ever!
Airport City In-game store
There are two types of currencies in Airport City. The first and basic one is in the form of gold coins, which you can easily earn by completing missions. The second one is premium and way harder to earn, which is called the Airport Cash. With gold coins you can purchase essential things such as buildings, runways and planes and with Airport Cash you can purchase exclusive items that are harder to get, such as passengers, fuel and bonuses.
Prices for gold coins vary from $1,99 for the smallest package of 3000 gold coins up till $99,99 for the largest package of 220.000 gold coins. Prices for Airport Cash vary from $1,99 for the smallest package of 6 Airport Cash up till $99,99 for the largest package of 400 Airport Cash.
I’ve looked up if there were any cheats or hacks for Airport City and as it happens, there are quite a few websites that claim they have a working cheat tool that you can use. These cheat tools allegedly can give you unlimited fuel, unlimited cash and unlimited coins. It sounds too good to be true right? For the sake of this review I decided to download one of these so called cheat tools but I would like to warn other people attempting to do this. These programs can be harmful to your computer, so only do so if you have significant knowledge about computers.
When I clicked on the download button, I got redirected to a fancy looking download website. Everything seemed to be normal so far but when I clicked on the download button again, I got a pop-up saying I need to fill in a survey before my download can start. After I had filled in the survey, my download automatically started and I opened the cheat tool. The cheat tool itself looked like one of those “trainers” you can download for PC games. It told me to connect my device with my computer and select which options I want injected into my game (unlimited cash, fuel and coins) Of course the cheat tool never was able to locate my device because these kind of tools are fake, mere empty shells. Fake cheat websites offer tools such as these because they lure in people to fill in surveys. That’s how websites such as these make money.
Instead of trying to find cheats for Airport City, and possibly putting your computer in harm’s way due to many viruses floating around on the internet, I will give you some tips and tricks that can surely help you with your gameplay.
In Airport City, you only unlock new buildings by leveling up. You should always keep doing missions and send out airplanes and accept them at your airport. Doing so will earn you valuable experience points which will make you level up. After you have reached the level for a certain building, it will unlock and you will be able to construct it. Of course this will still cost you money but by doing missions etc. you will already earn the needed cash to do so.
Constructing new buildings require space on land which is pretty limited at the beginning of the game. Expanding your land costs a pretty penny in Airport City but in the long run it is well worth it. You will be able to construct more buildings and start earning more money. You can purchase land with gold coins or airport cash so there are enough options. While constructing new buildings is important, it is also important to know that having a bigger city requires you to have more electricity. You should always have plentiful power plants so your city will never run out of electricity. Same goes for fuel for your airplanes. You can build fuel stations so fuel gets automatically pumped while you only have to oversee the operation.
Don’t forget that population is important in Airport City. By upgrading your town hall, you will increase the city’s population limit and by upgrading your terminal, you will be able to have more travelers stay over. You should also try to start up Airport City daily, even if you do not have the time to play it. In Airport City, you receive a daily reward every time you come back, which you can use to further progress through the game.
Airport City Review
At the beginning of Airport City, there is a tutorial that will teach you all of the basics you need to know to be able to run a successful airport. I think this is a very nice touch for a free-to-play game, or for any game for that matter. You do not have the feeling that you are left on your own and after you complete the tutorial, you get the feeling that you can now play the game and unlock all of its features.
There are a lot of buttons on the sides, top and bottom of your screen but the game field still remains clearly visible. Every button and option works smoothly, and once you click on it you will see a little bit of information of where you are at the moment. (For example, if you click on the crate button, you will be at your inventory and a small line of text will tell you that in this window you can see everything you have in your inventory).
If you wish to compare your airport city with your friends or other players around the world, and compete to have the best and biggest airport in the world, you can connect with your Facebook or sign in with your Game Insight account to do so. I think this is a very nice touch because I like games where I can challenge my friends and other players.
Another very nice aspect about Airport City is that I did not face any advertisements in my many hours of gameplay. This could have been due to the fact that my internet connection wasn’t that good at the time of me playing the game, but if it wasn’t, then I believe the developers did a very good job. Having advertisements in a game such as Airport City could have been very obstructive because in the game itself, you use all of your screen.
I only experienced two negative aspects about Airport City, and while they are not that bad, I can still imagine that some players will be turned off by them. The first negative aspect is that players get limited by fuel usage. Once you are out of fuel, you need to wait a couple of minutes for one fuel barrel to replenish. While this is not a problem if you have enough patience, it is still pretty annoying that you cannot play the game as you want to, whenever you want to.
Of course you can spend Airport Cash to replenish your fuel stock right away, which is also my second negative aspect about Airport City. I totally understand that the developers of free-to-play games need to generate an income, but they should not do this by putting a price tag of premium currency, on many buildings and objects in the game. You can barely earn Airport Cash by playing the game so this means you will have to spend real money on the game in order to purchase some of the more exclusive items.
Artwork: I give Airport City an 8/10 for its artwork. The graphics used in Airport City were actually pretty decent for the type of simulation game that it is. You do not need high end graphics and high definition objects to make this game work. The interface and world map is smooth and it is easy to identify what every button in the game means. I also liked the fact that there were idle animations for many objects in the game, such as windmills turning around and airplanes lifting off and landing. This gives the game a lively environment which is always nice.
Music & SFX: I give Airport City a 7/10 for its music and SFX. The soundtracks used in Airport City really fitted the whole airport theme. The soundtrack in early-game is nice and easy on the ears and you hear the common airport sounds in between it such as flight announcements and people talking etc. The soundtracks and sound effects did not distract me from my gameplay, in fact it added a nice lively feeling to it, much like the idle animations in the artwork. There are a few sound effects which you will hear during your gameplay, such as airport announcements and button click SFX.
Story & Originality: I give Airport City an 8/10 for its story and originality. There are probably a few dozen of airport simulators available at the app stores but seeing their ratings and amount of downloads makes me think that they are not popular at all. Most of them are also simulators to just be able to fly the airplane instead of being the owner of the airport. I think with what the developers did at Airport City, they reached a lot of players that were simply looking for a Sim City type of game, but more heavily focused on airports and flights. Airport City also has a small tutorial at the beginning which also explains the “Story” behind the game, where it is your dream to own and operate an airport and build it up to the largest airport city of the world.
General Gameplay: I give Airport City an 8/10 for general gameplay. Once you get used to all the features in Airport City, the game becomes pretty straightforward but fun to play nonetheless. Once you have leveled up to a decent level, you will have unlocked most of the buildings and you can really start to expand and make a lot of money. The game becomes significantly more interesting and fun once you can use all the features available to you. It is fun to see how your city and airport grows and how you need to pay attention to every detail to make it grow even further. The gameplay is smooth and thanks to the small tutorial at the beginning, you will already know the basics. There are a lot of guides online that can teach you a thing or two if you are really stuck.
Addictiveness: I give Airport City a 7/10 for addictiveness. Airport City can become pretty addictive, especially because it has so many features and the game is overall very fun to play. The only problem is that players get limited playtime because of the “fuel” running out and you need to wait a couple of minutes for one fuel barrel to be restocked. You can of course spend Airport Cash to replenish all of your fuel stock, but of course Airport Cash is hard to come by so you will need to pay real money to get them. If you can’t afford to spend real money or you simply do not want to spend real money on this game, you will need to have patience.
All things considered, I give Airport City an 8/10.
