If you like to play shooter games with a wide selection of weapons and gear, then Overkill 3 is just the game for you. Game developer Craneballs comes at you with Overkill 3, the action packed shooter game and third in its series. Downloaded over a million times with a rating of 4.2 out of 5 on Google Play Store and a 5 star rating on iOS App Store. While the first two instalments of Overkill were a shooting-gallery type of game, Overkill 3 takes a different turn towards cover-based shooter. Overkill 3 has a huge selection of options to explore and expand during your gameplay, which makes it a very good shooter and overall game to entertain yourself with on your smartphone or tablet.
The goal of Overkill 3 is to play from level to level, clearing the stages of enemies by eliminating them with your weapons. With the wide variety of options and weapon customization available to you, this seems to be a piece of cake but beware, the enemies are coming in hordes and are also dangerously equipped with weapons.
You start the game off with a few tutorial missions which shows and teaches you the basics of Overkill 3. One of the first things you learn is how to move around and shoot enemies. There is more to it than that, because some enemies cannot be killed by simple gunfire, and require grenades or missiles to be taken down. You can call in a helicopter missile strike when you have it available to you which will surely take out the enemy in front of you.
When you successfully eliminate the enemy forces in a level, you will be rewarded with cash and medals, depending on how well you have performed. Cash is the normal currency in the game and medals are like the premium currency. With cash and medals, you can start buying new weapons, start upgrading and customizing your weapons and even buy better armor suits and specials such as health packs and grenades.
Before you start a mission, you will see your character in the armory. Here is where you can equip yourself with better weapons, armor and specials. You will see your health and armor levels, you can equip a primary and extra weapon and you can also holster a secondary weapon. If you want, you can upgrade your armor suit here to be able to have a better resistance to enemy fire. Next to all of this, you will have four special slots available to you where you can put in things such as high explosive grenades, flash bangs and RPGs. You could have defensive specials such as med kits, armor repairs and ammo boxes and if you are really in a pickle, you can equip air support such as a Gatling raid and rocket raid, which calls in helicopter support to eliminate your enemies. All of this costs either cash or medals which of course you need to play to earn or buy them in the in-game store.
After you have equipped your character to your likings, you click on the fight now button and you start your next mission. You need to finish this level successfully to proceed to the next level. After that it is just rinse and repeat; Buy and upgrade weapons and armor, clear out levels.
Overkill 3 In-game store
Like many free-to-play games, Overkill 3 also has an in-game store where you can buy things to gain a huge advantage in the game. Earning cash and medals can be pretty tough and grinding them can take a long time so that’s why there are packages for both, purchasable in the in-game store. If you are looking for cheats and hacks for Overkill 3, look no further. I have googled for cheats for this game and all I ended up where websites who claim they have a real working cheat program for Overkill 3, but when you try to download this so called cheat program, you will be disappointed. First of all, in order to even be able to download those files, you need to fill in a survey, which is already annoying. If you have to patience for it and you actually fill in the survey, you will be redirected and your download will start. When you open up the files you will either face an empty shell program that does not even work, fake files or even worse, a virus. Instead of trying to find cheats for Overkill 3, you should try to focus on the following tips which can greatly improve your gameplay.
Overkill 3 is a cover-based game, which means that you can stay in cover and when you can find a clear shot at your enemy, you can straighten up and shoot. There is a downside though, because being in cover does not always mean that you cannot be hit by enemy fire. Sometimes there is no reason to stay in cover at all because no matter what, you will get hit by enemy fire so the best thing to do here is just stand up and keep shooting and killing your enemies. When your clip is out of ammo, you will go in cover and reload automatically. While this is happening, take a good look at where your enemies are standing and after you are done reloading, you can stand back up and rain bullets at your enemies again.
While you are going through a scene, sometimes you get an option to take the easy road or hard road. Taking the easy road will make the enemies easier but taking the hard road will give you better rewards. Sometimes it is just better to take the easy road, especially at the beginning of the game. This way you will assure yourself of certain victory over the enemies and once you have upgraded your weapons and armor, you can always go back and take the hard road to earn better rewards.
It is very important to keep your weapons and armor up-to-date by upgrading them regularly. After you have played for a couple of hours, the enemies will get significantly harder to kill and they will easily kill you if you did not upgrade your armor enough. Instead of wasting money on painting your weapons a different color and putting stickers on them, you should rather upgrade their firepower and accuracy.
It is important that you hit as many headshot as possible which will instantly kill enemies, instead of needing to shoot them several times before they die. If you do not have enough cash or medals to upgrade your weapons and armor, you can always go back to previous levels and grind for some more. This comes in handy for specific levels that require you to have a certain weapon. If you happen to not have purchase said weapon, you can grind for more cash and medals and still purchase that weapon and upgrade it.
It is a good idea to also invest some cash or medals in helicopter attacks. Sometimes you can get in a difficult situation while playing Overkill 3 which require some extra firepower on your side. You can call in attack helicopters either with Gatling guns or missile attacks. These attacks will take out several enemies at the same time and clear you from that difficult situation you were in.
I think it is nice for games such as Overkill 3 to start with a tutorial. The tutorial teaches you the basics of the game which in turn makes you understand the game better and you can perform better in them. Complicated games could be a turnoff for casual mobile gamers, so a tutorial is really nice to have. Another thing that amazed me about Overkill 3 was the amount of options and upgrades you can apply to your weapons. It is nice that the tutorial guide is also voice-acted so you will not just read a text bubble but you will actually be told what to do next. I have never played a mobile game before where I had to actually look up a wiki page on the internet in order to find out what is the best combination of upgrades for a weapon. I think this is pretty awesome, especially for more hardened mobile gamers that like shooter games.
Another nice aspect about Overkill 3 is that I did not face any forced advertisements during my gameplay. Ads in free-to-play games are normal, but some developers just push it too far and make ads will show up just as you are about to tap the screen. This was not the case with Overkill 3 and it is greatly appreciated. Now you can just play the game without being bothered, which makes the gameplay more smooth and positive.
Of course with all good things, there are also bad things. There are a lot of options to explore in Overkill 3 but all of them cost either a lot of cash or medals. Cash is easy to get but medals are just way too hard to earn. At one point you will not be able to progress through the game because your weapons and gear are too weak and the enemies will just kill you every time you try to clear the stage. You could grind previous levels to earn more cash and medals but this takes a lot of time and if you do not have the patience for that, you could always buy cash and medals in the in-game store. While it is understandable that free-to-play games have an in-game store, it is still pretty annoying for the developers to think that everyone wants to spend real money on a mobile game.
Artwork: I give Overkill 3 a 7/10 for its artwork. I was expecting more from Overkill 3’s graphical performance. The screenshots of the game looked much nicer than the actual gameplay itself. Objects and obstacles are not destroyable by gunfire but so you can’t shoot away obstacles your enemies are hiding behind. While this was kind of a letdown, the developers made up for it by making the environment during gameplay, very detailed. The explosion graphics was also detailed and looked awesome, even for a mobile game.
Music & SFX: I give Overkill 3 a 7/10 for its music and SFX. When you start Overkill 3, there is a nice soundtrack in the main menu, which can give you chills if you listen to it with your earphones in. The soundtrack thrills you up for what you are about to face in the missions you need to play. Every little SFX that has been added to Overkill 3 is also very detailed. From tapping on the next button to firing shots at the enemy, the SFX are very nice and fit the whole shooter action packed theme of Overkill 3.
Story & Originality: I give Overkill 3 a 7/10 for its story and originality. While there are many cover-based shooter games out on Google Play Store and iOS App Store, it still doesn’t take away from the story and originality of Overkill 3. The fact that there are so many custom upgrades you can apply to your weapons is one of those originalities. You can upgrade your weapons firepower and aim, but you can also paint your weapons and add stickers to them. While Overkill 3 has sort of a story behind it, it is more in the background and unimportant to your gameplay.
General Gameplay: I give Overkill 3 an 8/10 for general gameplay. After a few tutorial missions at the beginning of the game, Overkill 3 gets pretty straightforward. You need to complete missions and earn cash and medals and using these, you upgrade your weapons and gear, rinse and repeat. The gameplay itself is smooth and it is very clear what you need to do with each level because you are given certain objectives that you need to complete.
Addictiveness: I give Overkill 3 a 7/10 for addictiveness. Overkill 3 does not have a depleting energy bar which forces you to wait before you can play again. This way you can just keep playing however long you want. The only problem is the levels get significantly harder over time and you need to keep updating your weapons in order to be able to progress through the game. If you have the patience to grind for medals and cash, this will not be problem for you.
All things considered, I give Overkill 3 a 7/10.
