Plants Vs. Zombies 2 Cheats & Hack for Keys, Coins & Stars

Plants vs Zombies 2 is a game from PopCap, which is a subsidiary of EA. The game is available on iOS and Android devices for free. The gameplay is almost the same as its predecessor, except with a few twists, some of which are good, some of which are bad. Essentially, there are waves of zombies trying to get to the end of the map, and you place different plants to stop them. The game is relatively high quality, has great art, and it actually has a story, which isn’t amazing, but it’s very funny.

In each level, you choose a handful of plants out of your collection, and use them to defend against zombies. The level is a grid in which you can place your plants. The zombies come from the right side of the screen, and you must strategically place plants to effectively kill zombies. If a zombie approaches a plant, it can eat it and keep moving. If 1 zombie gets through each row, you lose. However, you can’t place plants any time you want to. Each plant costs a certain amount of “Sun”, which falls from the top of the screen randomly. You tap it to collect it, and can spend it to plant more. This is typical Plants vs Zombies gameplay, but this sequel adds a few twists. One of my favorite additions is the “Plant Food” mechanic. During a level, zombies can randomly drop plant food. Why are they carrying plant food? Who knows. But it’s great.

You can “feed” one of your plants to amplify its powers for a limited time, which can tremendously turn the tide of battle. You’re able to hold three servings of plant food at once time, so don’t hoard it and use it liberally. There are also “powers”, which allow the player to directly fight the zombies through different means. One of the powers allows you to swipe zombies off of the map. Another allows you to freeze them by sliding your finger over them, and the last one allows you to electrocute zombies by sliding your finger over them. Each one costs some coins to use once, which I will describe more later.

There are dozens of different plants available, which you can earn by progressing through the game. However, you start with a few specific plants. The first one is the Sunflower. It doesn’t do anything in the way of offense or defense, but it’s impact is enormous. This plant generates sun, which thereby allows you to ramp up your defenses quicker based on how many sunflowers you have. I tend to plant at least one early on so I have a little extra sun when I start. If you give it plant food, it immediately produces 150 sun, which can definitely help in tight situations.

The next starting plant is the Peashooter, which is a quintessential offensive plant. The Peashooter simply shoots peas down the row and damages any zombie it hits. Generally, you want to place a Peashooter, or at least an offensive plant, pretty early. If you give a Peashooter plant food, it shoots a barrage of peas down the row. Not only is this good for getting rid of large crowds of zombies, but if you are fighting a very resilient zombie or a boss, this power is extremely effective.

Another starting plant is the Potato Mine. With this one, you simply place it on a tile, and when a zombie steps on it, it explodes. However, the Potato Mine takes a little while to arm itself, so you can’t place on on a tile and expect it to explode immediately. After a few seconds though, it will become armed and work properly. If you give it plant food, it arms itself immediately, which can be very helpful if you’re low on offensive plants and need to get rid of zombies quickly.

The last starting plant is the Wall-nut. This plant is a very defensive plant which doesn’t do any damage, but is very tough. It’s main use is to protect other plants by placing it in front of your army. That way, zombies have to chew through the Wall-nut first before they can get to your force, and while they are chewing they get damaged by your offensive plants. A combo i frequently use it placing a Wall-nut, and if zombies are chewing on it, place a Potato Mine right in front of it. That way, the Potato Mine has enough time to arm while the zombies are occupied with the Wall-nut, and they die. When the Wall-nut is fed plant food, it becomes extra tough for a period of time.
There are also different types of zombies. The first type of zombie is your basic zombie, nothing special about it. Then there are zombies with cones on their heads, who are twice as tough are normal zombies. Then there are zombies with buckets on their heads, which make them even more tough. And finally there are flag carrying zombies, which mark the beginning of a wave of zombies. There are also different special zombies, like the Ra Zombie, which steals falling sun.

The special zombies are different depending on which “world” you are playing in. There are numerous worlds based on different periods of time, such as the Egyptian World, Wild West World, and Dark Ages World. Each has unique themed zombies and levels. The story reason for having worlds based in different times is that a man named Dave eats a taco which he loves so much that he finds a time machine to take him back in time so he can eat his taco again. It’s a very strange story, yet it’s strangely charming, and the dialogue between Dave and the apparently sentient AI of the time machine is actually pretty funny.

Another interesting gameplay feature is the “Zen Garden”. Essentially how it works is some zombies drop saplings, which you can plant in your Zen Garden. Then you can grow different plants, such as upgraded versions of your current plants. These upgraded plants can only be used in one level, but are extremely helpful. For example, the upgraded Sunflower produces 150 sun as soon as you plant it. On top of these plants, you can grow Marigold, which produce coins, which can be spent on power ups.
The pricing model is not unreasonable for a free to play mobile game. There is no energy system, which is a huge plus in my book. There are two currencies in the game: gems and coins. Gems can be acquired occasionally through gameplay, but are mainly acquired through purchases. They can be used to buy premium plants, expand the amount of space in your Zen Garden, among other things. They can also be exchanged for coins. Coins are used mainly to purchase power ups. There are also World Keys, which costs $4.99 a pop, but are easily acquired through playing the game.

There are also numerous different “events” that can happen, of which I have experienced only a few. A recent one I played was a scenario where there were numerous zombies and a Yeti, and you have to defeat all of them. I received a nice amount of coins for winning. This is simply one of the events, as there are many more.

AppGameCheats Tips

Don’t be too concerned with beating a whole world before you move on to the next one. The later levels of some worlds are very challenging, and if you skip around worlds, you can get some of the plants from them. These plants can be very helpful in beating the later stages of the worlds.

Don’t hoard your plants in the Zen Garden. Use them often. In my experience, I hoarded them and quickly ran out of space in my garden, so don’t be afraid to use them.

In a similar vein, don’t hoard plant food. You can only hold 3 servings at any time, so go ahead and use it generously. Plant food use can often mean the difference between winning and losing.

Set up a good amount of offensive plants early in the game. Don’t worry about sunflowers too much, but definitely plant a couple early on. Once you’ve established an adequate defense, then plant more sunflowers to maximize your sun output.

Don’t place offensive plants until you see your first zombie. The reason for that is if you jump the gun and place a plant early, the first zombie might be coming through a different row, and you won’t have enough sun to plant anything in that row.

Review and Ratings

As per most PopCap games, Plants vs Zombies 2 is very enjoyable. It has great gameplay, decent graphics, it’s funny, and it’s engaging. However, it’s not without it’s issues. The game can feel a little longer than it needs to be, and powerups are a little bit too expensive.

Artwork & Graphics: 8/10

Plants vs Zombies has it’s own distinctive style. The art of the plants and zombies is great, and world’s unique style is crafted with great detail. The amount of different assets in this game is surprising, as each and every world has it’s own unique set of obstacles, graphics, and characters. The colors are very bright and cartoony, which fits perfectly for this game. Overall, the graphics are pretty solid.

Music & SFX: 9/10

The main Plants vs Zombies theme is stuck in my head after playing this game. This game has great music which I can’t help but hum along to. The sounds that the characters make add to the atmosphere as well. The zombie groans and noises all add to the experience and help characterize the world as a whole. The sound and music in this game are of very high quality, and help add to the experience.

Story & Originality: 8.5/10

The story of this game isn’t fantastic, but I would be lying if I said it wasn’t funny. The premise of the whole story is absurd to begin with: it’s about a man travelling through time in the name of tacos, and it just spirals from there. In addition to the story, alot of the descriptions for the plants and zombies are laugh out loud funny.

As for originality, this game isn’t inherently original, as it’s essentially Plants vs Zombies 1 with a whole bunch of bells and whistles. Nevertheless, I feel as if there aren’t too many other games with similar gameplay that are as high quality as this one.

Gameplay: 8.5/10

Plants vs Zombies’ gameplay is a winner, and PopCap/EA are smart to capitalize on that. The game is accessible to anyone. It can be played by younger children or older adults. Either way, it’s an enjoyable game, and people who like strategy games might enjoy this one too. Of course, Plants vs Zombies 2 is a very casual game, but nevertheless it’s very fun. What I don’t like, however, is that some levels are a tad too challenging, and sometimes simply require the player to use power ups. This wouldn’t be too bad, except for the fact that powerups are very expensive. While most levels are extremely playable, the dependence on power ups for some hinder the game. In addition, the game seems to have alot of filler, as many of the levels are essentially the same and very repetitive. Nevertheless, the game is still lots of fun.

Addictiveness: 8.5/10

Even though the game is slightly repetitive, it does keep me coming back. Whether it’s to check on my Zen Garden, or simply play a few games, this game is very easy to pick up and even easier to keep playing.

Final Verdict: 9/10

The game does have it’s flaws, however that doesn’t change the fact that this game is simply a solid game. It takes the classic Plants vs Zombies gameplay and adds a little something to it, which results in a very solid mobile game. I do have some issues with the payment model, as power ups are a little expensive, but the game is entirely playable without spending a single dime. The great gameplay, charming art, and catchy music all make Plants vs Zombies 2 a great experience, and an excellent time killer. All of these reasons lead me to rate this game a 9/10.
