You start the game with a tutorial tournament consisting of five opponents. During these five fights, you will learn how to properly dodge, parry and attack your opponent. After you have defeated all five of the opponents in the tutorial tournament, you will be able to play in the next tournament. You progress through the game from tournament to tournament, and every tournament consists of a few rounds of opponents which you need to defeat.

Your goal in Blood & Glory is to become the most powerful gladiator in the world. The way you play Blood & Glory is actually pretty simple, once you get used to reading how your opponents will attack. Your opponent will get ready for an attack, and once he swings his weapon, you can block it with your shield. This will give you a good opening to attack your opponent with a few good swings. You can also dodge your opponents attack by either tapping on the right or left arrow, but you will need to read his attack direction correctly, because if you do not, you will get hit.

Once you get used to reading the attacks, you can also counter your opponents’ attacks by swinging your weapon in the same direction as he is attacking, so you can parry. This will shock your opponent and give you an opening for a few good attacks. If you do not apply any of these tactics, your attacks will most likely just graze your opponent and do almost no damage to him.

You have potions which you can use if you are in trouble, for example if your health is low, you can use a health potion to regenerate some health points. There is an attack potion, which will regenerate points to your special attack so you can use it right away. When you have run out of block points, you can use a block potion so you can use your shield a few more times.

After you successfully defeat your opponent, you will receive silver coins and experience points. There are no items you can unlock by leveling up, but you will receive a three skill points which you can then assign to an attribute of your likings. You can increase the total health points, attack or block of your warrior. Once you have assigned the skill points, you will not be able to change them so choose wisely.

With the silver coins that you saved up by defeating your opponents, you will be able to purchase a number of improvements in the in-game store. You might want to save up your silver coins at the beginning of your gameplay so that you can purchase higher tier weaponry and equipment even faster.

Blood & Glory In-game store

There are two types of currencies in Blood & Glory, the first one being silver coins which is the basic currency in the game and easy to earn. The second one is called the Glu Credits, which are premium and very hard to earn by playing the game. You can use both silver coins and Glu Points to purchase a lot of new equipment and specialty items in the in-game store.

There are several categories where you can spend your silver coins and Glu Credits on. The more basic ones are the equipment categories such as Armor, Helmets, Weapons and Shields. In these categories you can simply purchase more powerful and sturdy equipment to protect your warrior and make his attacks do more damage against your opponents. There are also three potions available for purchase, which will greatly help you when your warrior gets in trouble (be it health, block or attack wise). If you wish to reset your skill points and assign them to a different attribute, you can buy a Scroll of Balance, which will reset your warriors’ stats and let your reconfigure him with all of the skill points available again.

The prices for silver coins start at $4,99 for the smallest package of 5000 silver coins up till $99,99 for the largest package of 260.000 silver coins. Glu Credits are more expensive and the prices for those start at $4,99 for the smallest package of 50 Glu Credits up till $99,99 for the largest package of 5200 Glu Credits. It’s a good choice to play Blood & Glory daily if you like it because you will receive a nice gift when you log in.

There is also a way to earn free Glu Credits by completing offers through Tapjoy. These offers usually entails that you have to download other games and play them, or fill in surveys. Well most if not all of these so called cheat tools are too good to be true, but for the sake of this review, I decided to download one of cheat tools and test it out. I clicked on the download button and got redirected to a download website, which told me that I needed to fill in a survey before I could download the cheat tool. I filled in the survey and started my download, after which I opened the program to see what it was about.

The program itself looked like any other program, and it told me to connect my device to my computer with an USB cable. After I did that, I could fill in how many silver coins and Glu Credits I would like to receive and click on inject. The cheat tool was supposed to inject my game with the amount of silver coins and Glu Credits, but of course it never happened. The program gave an error message and that was the end of that. All of those cheat tools online are just too good to be true, and you should never risk your computer by downloading dodgy programs like that.

Blood & Glory Gameplay Tips

There are several combos which you can perform during your battle. Combos will hit your opponent with much more power rather than just slashing randomly. One of the best and easiest combos is just to tap right+left+right or left+right+left. This combo is called the Spin Attack and will take your opponents health points down significantly. There is also a combo attack called Earth Strike which you can perform by tapping up+up+up+down. A last combo attack which I would recommend to everyone is called the Tornado Slash, and you perform it by tapping up+up+down+down+up. This attack is unstoppable by your opponent and does a lot of damage to his health points.

Lower tier weapons are great at the beginning of the game but they become obsolete once you progress through the tournaments. Every time you successfully complete a tournament, your enemies become significantly stronger and have stronger equipment and weapons. You should save up all the silver coins you earn and not upgrade your equipment at the first few tournaments. Upgrading your lower tier weapons and equipment is useless because you will just waste your silver coins as they are too weak for later tournaments. Later on you will have saved up a chunk of silver coins which you can use to buy higher tier equipment and weapons.

Blood & Glory Review

When I first started playing Blood & Glory, I never even heard of the game before so the gameplay came as a surprise to me. The name and the logo of the game gave it away that it would be a gladiator battle type of game, but this is not a problem at all because Blood & Glory is absolutely beautiful at the graphics and animations front. The game starts off with a nice tutorial tournament where you learn the basics of the game, which is very nice because you have a lot to learn before you can fight properly and win against your opponents. After you have learned the basics about Blood & Glory, the game will become pretty straightforward but still remains fun and entertaining to play. I like the fact that before you fight against your opponent, you see the load out screen where you can see how many more potions you have left and you can see how strong your opponent is. This way you can prepare yourself with better equipment if your opponent is way stronger than your warrior.

Unfortunately there are a few negative aspects about Blood & Glory as well. Occasionally there are some pop-up ads which are very annoying because it feels like the developer wants to trick people into tapping them so that they can earn some money. I have nothing against free-to-play games having advertisements in them, but when they are obstructive and annoying, it just makes the gameplay less fun. I think the developers should look into changing the positions of these ads so that their players won’t get annoyed as much by them.

Some of the more powerful weapons and equipment are not purchasable with silver coins, but only with Glu Credits. This would mean that you need to either spend a lot of time completing offers or spend a lot of real money to be able to purchase those items. This is simply wrong because of the fact that Tapjoy does not always work well and often does not send you any credits at all, even if you have successfully completed the offer. I think the developers should change the system a bit and make loyal players happy by rewarding them with Glu Credits whenever they play the game a long time.

Blood & Glory Ratings

Artwork: I give Blood & Glory an 8/10 for its artwork. I think the graphics and animations in Blood & Glory are very nice, especially for a mobile game. The game starts with a nice introduction video, which you can skip if you want to, but in this video you see what the game is all about. The user interface is very clear and fits the whole gladiator theme, I like the fact that there are not a ton of buttons on the screen, which can be pretty obstructive. The characters, armor and weapons are pretty detailed and you can tell that the developers spend some time animating them. It’s a nice touch that the arena feels lively, thanks to the crowd animations in the background. The graphics and animations fit perfectly together with the theme.

Music & SFX: I give Blood & Glory an 8/10 for its music and SFX. The soundtracks used in the main menu and during battles is actually pretty decent and fits the overall theme of the game. The main menu soundtrack kind of prepares you for what is ahead, and the soundtrack during battles just adds to the thrill of fighting against a much stronger opponent. There are also a lot of sound effects such as when you swing your weapon, when you hit your opponent (or when you get hit) and what I think is a very nice sound effect is when you hear the crowd go wild when you are about to defeat your opponent. This adds a very nice touch to the environment because it feels like you are really standing in an arena.

Story & Originality: I give Blood & Glory an 8/10 for its story and originality. I have never played a gladiator fighting game before in my life so I will rate Blood & Glory a high rating for originality. There is a nice video at the beginning of your gameplay that explains what the goal of this game is and also what the story behind the game is, which is a very nice aspect in my opinion because a story adds imagination to the gameplay. There might be other gladiator battle type games on the app stores, but that doesn’t change the fact that the developers did a good job on Blood & Glory and deserve a high rating.

General Gameplay: I give Blood & Glory an 8/10 for general gameplay. I think it is very nice that there was a nice tutorial at the beginning of the game, showing how you move your warrior and how you attack your opponents. You will also learn how to use special attacks and block, parry and dodge. I think having five battles at the beginning tutorial is very nice, because I could imagine that the game mechanics could be a bit confusing for casual mobile gamers. After you go through the tutorial tournament, you will have learned how to battle your opponents properly and be well on your way in becoming the world’s strongest gladiator. The gameplay itself is very smooth and the controls work and respond perfectly.

Addictiveness: I give Blood & Glory an 8/10 for addictiveness. It is always nice when a free-to-play game, or any game for that matter, doesn’t limit its players by giving them lives, timers or energy bars. This was also the fact in Blood & Glory. You can play this game as long as you want, whenever you want because you will not have to wait for some silly energy bar to replenish itself or purchase more lives in the in-game store. Blood & Glory is also a very entertaining game on itself which just adds to the addictiveness of the game.

All things considered, I give Blood & Glory an 8/10.
