Turbo Fast is a mobile application, available for both smartphones and tablets, as long as they are running either Google’s Android or Apple’s iOS operating system. Since its release, by one of Google’s top developers, PIKPOK, Turbo Fast has achieved over ten million installs on Android devices alone. The game is known as a ‘freemium’ application – this means that it is entirely free to download and install, but it does feature some in app purchases for the user to buy. However, each and every in app purchase is completely optional, and the end user only needs to buy then as long as they see fit. The in app purchases are not a requirement and are not forced by the developer at all.
Users of Turbo Fast can find themselves racing to the finish line, in a challenge against friends. Through competing in these races, users are able to upgrade their racing snails shell, with cool things such as spoilers and designs. These upgrades can only be purchased if the user collects enough tomatoes throughout races, or alternatively they can commit to buy an in app purchase. In the garage, users are able to learn the ropes from Tito and learn how to trick out their own ride (or, snail). Users must race, drift, slide and jump in order to be able to reach the top of the leaderboards. Through these races, users are also able to unlock premium and rare racers such as Turbo himself and the rest of the Fast Action Stunt Team.
There are many features, which are expressed and used within Turbo Fast. There are thirteen different tracks so that users are able to chose from a variety of different sceneries if they become bored of their usual favourite. Challenge mode allows users to go head to head against their real life friends, in a bid to win valuable tomatoes. Turbo Fast also features many Special Race Events, which include: time trials, limited fuel races, slalom races as well as rival races. This is a good range of options for users who easily bored or repetitive races. There are thousands of different performance and design upgrade combinations within Turbo Fast, such as shell designs and different paint jobs. There are also neon glows available! As well as all of this, pre-race modifications allow users to quickly improve their performance with buffs such as: extra speed, more fuel, and a longer time. There is also the ability for users to record their greatest moments in their races to share on social media with their friends. To go along with this, there is the option to have your times posted to both Facebook and Twitter to show off to your friends. The leader boards are continually updated so that users can see their rank against their friends and other users.
Getting started is within Turbo Fast is extremely easy and straightforward. Users are prompted to complete a quick tutorial level, which will show them the basics of how to play. The tutorial takes less than a couple of minutes and after that, the user is free to play however they like. There is nothing stopping the user from playing the game however they like besides any content that requires being unlocked.

Turbo Fast does a great job of keeping the user immersed throughout the whole of the general gameplay. Because the game was fairly action packed and ran at a fast pace throughout, I experienced no issues with feeling as if I was a part of the game. Instead of feeling like I was simply playing a game, I instead felt like I was immersed within the game and every movement I made depended on if my snail (or character) was going to earn enough tomatoes for upgrades or win the intense race. Everything felt great, in this department, and I was very pleased with how engaged I became with the game and the bond which was created between me, the user, and Turbo Fast, the game.
The user interfaces within Turbo Fast are very nice, but I still could not say that they were perfect. All of the buttons were nicely responsive, and done just as I expected them to within a matter of moments. No awkward loading screens or irritating pop up advertisements in the meantime, which was extremely nice. To add to this, the buttons are also well designed, and look very appealing. I can tell that the developers of Turbo Fast have tried their best here, and it has certainly paid off! Their use of font contributes nicely to the buttons and other menus, and makes them more appealing than it could have if other fonts were chosen here. Also, any scrolling menus and scrollbars are very buttery smooth. Nothing is too big where it looks a little humiliating, and nothing looks too small where it is difficult to access correctly. I am very pleased with the user interfaces, within Turbo Fast, overall.
The graphics are also very nice within Turbo Fast. I find that although they do look realistic, they are also slightly cartoon-esque. This is a great thing, since I am still able to tell exactly what things are supposed to be, while they are still appealing to a wide range of ages. I can see the artwork and graphics being appreciated by children, teenagers, adults, as well as some members of the elderly alike. Because of the way that the realistic look is combined with cartoon features, it has a perfect result. The artwork suit Turbo Fast perfectly, and it is just what the game needed! I can see that a lot of hard work and time has been dedicated towards the artwork and graphics, and again – it has paid off really well and the end result is lovely and very aesthetically pleasing. These graphics also add to the immersive experience, which I spoke about earlier in this review.
I feel that any age of person, as long as they have some basic knowledge of how to use a mobile device, should be able to enjoy this game. Everything is appealing to those of all ages.
I am extremely pleased with the way that the developers of Turbo Fast have managed their use of third party advertisements within the game. I have come across no third party advertisements throughout the whole of my gameplay – since they did not include any! All that I have come across is small, reminder-like, advertisements which promote the in app purchases (these are not third party). And this is extremely forgivable since the game is nice to play. It is nice to not be distracted by flashing banners and annoying pop ups every five minutes, and I, as well as other mobile gamers alike (surely), appreciate this greatly.
Artwork: I am able to give Turbo Fast a strong, and well deserved, 10/10 for the artwork aspect of things. The artwork is extremely pleasing and I did not find myself to have any issues with it throughout the whole of my time playing the game. It is appealing to a wide range of ages, all the way from young children to some members of the elderly alike. I believe that the artwork from the developers, for Turbo Fast, is one of the main features of the game and it is one that adds to further aspects of the game – such as general gameplay. I am very pleased with the work done here, and I have no suggestions or ideas for improvement – I genuinely do not think that it can be improved.
Music & SFX: I can only give Turbo Fast a fairly low and shameful 3/10 for the music and sound effects. Most of the sound effects are a simple ‘pop’ or something similar – this does not really create much of an atmosphere for gameplay or make the user feel more immersed. As well as this, the music is very mild – instead of sound like ‘racing’ music, it instead seems like something you would find on a cheap local news report program. They do not add to the immersivity at all, and do not really add to the general gameplay. However, they are better than nothing and they are not completely awful – they do play a vital role in the gameplay, just not very well.
Story & Originality: I can only, unfortunately, give Turbo Fast a 2/10 for its story and originality. There is absolutely no story line throughout the whole of the game – I have no idea who my character is, besides its name, and why it is determined and has any desire at all to race through these insane tracks. Most importantly, the game does not give me a reason to play the game. Also, this type of game has been created many of times before, and it is not really anything new or exciting. However, the only reason I am able to give Turbo Fast anything above a flat zero, is because there are not many racing games which feature snails – this makes it a little more unique. Also, the customization options are fairly unique, so I can give a little higher than a zero for that.
General Gameplay: I am able to give Turbo Fast a solid, firm 8/10 for general gameplay. This is a strong point of Turbo Fast, due to other contributing factors. Because of how immersive the gameplay is, and the lovely artwork, this contributes to the general gameplay greatly. Since everything is so smooth, which seems to be the opposite of most competitor apps, I find that this makes gameplay much more enjoyable than it otherwise could have been. I cannot give a full ten because there is no storyline – this leaves me with no real reason to play, other than to waste time. The music and sound effects leave the gameplay a little short, also.
Addictiveness: I can only give Turbo Fast a mild 5/10 for addictiveness. All of the races are fairly repetitive – the courses are more or less the same, but just a slightly different snail upgrade on your character (if you chose to upgrade). So, this does take away from the addictiveness a little bit. Also, since there is no story line, I have no reason to play – this also takes away from the addictiveness. However, if I do ever have some spare time that needs killing then I will most likely open this app than others in my phone’s application library. I do not find myself going out of my way to play Turbo Fast, though – mainly because it is a little repetitive and does become fairly boring after some time.
Overall, I give Turbo Fast a 7/10.
