AdventureQuest Dragons is an idle clicker game published by Artix Entertainment LLC and released on the Google Play Store and Apple iTunes Store. AdventureQuest Dragons has already been downloaded over 100,000 times and has received a rating of 3.9 aggregated from over 7000 reviews. Though the game isn’t as popular as some of the viral games for mobile, it’s clear that it’s quite popular as evidenced by the large number of downloads and good ratings. Is AdventureQuest Dragons worthy of its popularity and reviews? In this article I examine the good and bad aspects of AdventureQuest Dragons as well as offer readers Tips, Tricks, and Cheats to help make the playing experience as enjoyable as possible.
Upon opening the game, players watch a quick cinematic introducing the dragons as well as noting the collaboration between the two studios mentioned above. After a quick few screens of tutorials, players are dropped in the main screen of the game with little to no guidance. Luckily, this genre is pretty simple and the game will be picked up quickly by anyone who has played mobile games previously.
The Idle Clicker Genre
Before going further into the review of AdventureQuest Dragons, I’d like to explain a little bit about the Idle Clicker Genre. This type of game has exploded in the past few months, but the genre is not as recognizable – even to gamers – as something like a roleplaying game or first person shooter might be. Essentially, in idle clickers, players click a certain point on the screen to generate currency and then spend that currency on upgrades to increase their currency gain. The “Idle” aspect comes in as the game will generate currency even when closed with no input from the player. AdventureQuest Dragons, like other games in this genre, is simple and good for wasting time.
If you are playing the cool adventure RPG AdventureQuest Dragons, then you probably have quickly figured out you need a lot of gold and dragon keys to purchase and breed your dragons. While you can get gold and dragon keys through the app store, it requires you to spend real money, and these purchases really add up. AppGameCheats has decided to add a hack tool for AdventureQuest Dragons, which gives you the dragon keys and gold for free.
Check out the image below to see how easy the hack tool is to use, since you just enter the amounts of each item you want on the options menu.
All you need to do if you want the gold and dragon keys for free is download our AdventureQuest Dragons hack tool from our website, which takes no more than 30 seconds. The hack automatically installs after downloading, and this also takes about 30 seconds to finish. You will then need to choose either iOS or Android, depending on which device you are using. At that point, just enter the amounts of each item you want on the options menu.
Finally, click “Start” to begin the hack tool, which should take under 40 seconds to finish, and then you can open up the game as normal. You will see the gold and dragon keys have already been added to your account. Using our hack tool allows you to get as many of these items as you want, which helps you breed and grow dragons without worrying about spending real money or wasting your time.
Gameplay
Upon watching the opening cinematic and a few tutorial screens, the player is shown a green egg with the instructions “Click to Hatch” After 100 clicks the egg hatches into the first dragon you’ll be able to upgrade – Drakenor the green dragon. After hatching the egg, the player also has a handle on all the mechanical aspects of gameplay in AdventureQuest Dragons. From hatching your dragon to evolving it to its final form, all you’re doing is clicking.
There’s a large red gem at the center, and the faster you click it the more gems you receive. Players receive bonuses for their fast, uninterrupted clicking in the form of “Clickboosts”. The first tier of upgrade you’ll receive is a simple “Clickboost”, but upon expanding your chain of clicks you’re able to move into “Ultra Clickboost”. Each give you a multiplier to gems received by each click, increasing respectively.
The player may notice a yellow bar at the bottom of the screen. This bar travels from left to right across the bottom of the screen and upon reaching the end causes dragon icons to start falling from the sky. By clicking and breaking these icons, players receive a lump sum of gems. The amount given seems to increase as you upgrade your dragon, a concept which is discussed below.
Upgrades
The way AdventureQuest Dragons adds complexity is by allowing you to buy upgrades with your gems. By clicking the Dragon icon at the bottom right of the screen. This opens a shop of sorts that allows you to buy upgrades to increase the gem gains of your dragon. The shop can be separated into three general categories: click boosts, passive gain boosts and evolution.
Click boosts are the most straightforward of the upgrades, by upgrading your Click Power you increase the amount of gems you receive for each tap of the red crystal. Each upgrade becomes exponentially more expensive, so it may take a bit to reach the higher levels of Click Power. Fortunately, you don’t have to rely on continued tapping to earn money for your upgrades. This is where Passive gain boosts come into play.
Passive gain boosts are found in a variety of different categories, but they all essentially do the same things. By clicking on an option that has something listed like “+3/sec” you can add 3 gems of passive gain per second to your dragon. This means that even if you were to never tap the gem you could eventually reach gigantic gains per second simply by upgrade your dragon’s passive gains.
Passive gains are split into a bunch of different categories with accompanying flavor text, but as mentioned above they all do pretty much the same thing with varying effectiveness. For example the Train Dragon button might let you know that you earned Muzzle which trains your dragon to avoid eating any of your neighbors. Breath Weapon trains your dragons to breathe various strengths of fire, starting from the comical Acid Reflux to the most powerful scorching flames.
Though these flavor texts are comical they do little to change the gameplay which essentially revolves around maximizing your gems per second.
One category of note under passive gains that I’d like to point out are the Offline Gems upgrade. By default, your dragon doesn’t earn any gems when you don’t have the app open. However, by upgrading the Offline Gems, you can add a percentage of your gains to be gathered when you’re offline. For example, I’m currently sitting at Offline Gems 30% which means 30% of my roughly 10000 gems per second continue to be gathered when the app is closed.
The final category, evolution, allows you to evolve your dragon into its next form. This adds new options for upgrades which are more befitting of an adult dragon such as capturing princesses, recruiting minions, and raiding villages. Though you can enjoy the game a lot just buy upgrading one dragon, there are a lot of others you can collect if you wish.
Unlocking new Dragons
Beyond Rakenor there are a total of 13 dragons available to unlock. Unfortunately, unlock the majority of these you need Dragon Keys which are most easily purchasable with real money. However, making any purchase in the shop removes banner ads from the game indefinitely so it may be worth it to sink a few dollars into a purchase of Keys.
As mentioned above, to unlock dragons beyond Rakenor, you usually need to use real money and purchase Dragon Keys. However, there are several methods in AdventureQuest Dragons that allow you to obtain keys without spending any cash.
The first thing I would mention is that if you really enjoy the game it’s probably worth spending a few bucks on the lowest tier of dragon keys. Not only can you get 30 keys for 2 dollars – more than enough to unlock the next dragon – you get rid of banner ads permanently which makes for a more enjoyable game.
Another way to earn Dragon Keys is by watching sponsored videos. These are short video advertisements, and upon watching the entire thing you’re awarded with a bunch of gems. In addition to the gem award, there’s a 10% chance with each video watch that you can get a free dragon key. Though this is limited to 1 key per day, it’s pretty easy to just watch a few ads and get a key. Statistically, you should get one after 10 views, but even if it takes a little longer the gem reward – which increases as you upgrade your dragon – is usually enough incentive to keep watching them anyways.
Upon evolving Drakenor, you’re given a bunch of new options for upgrades – one of them being an option to buy 10 Dragon Keys for gems. Though this comes at a seemingly insurmountable price, (1 trillion gems) when you see that the new options offer passive gem gains of over 50 million gems per second, it becomes pretty easy to see that this option is definitely attainable.
Though all but one of the dragons that are unlockable are unlocked using dragon keys, there’s one dragon that’s pretty simple to add to your arsenal – Krumblor the Cookie Dragon. This Dragon, which pays homage to the developers of CookieClickers is unlocked simply by inviting a friend to play the game and entering the friend code they receive when they sign up. This option, along with the Leader Boards, is accessed by clicking the crossed swords icon at the bottom of the screen.
Leaderboards are visible by connecting with Facebook and can offer that competitive aspect that many players desire in a mobile game.
Beyond tips to unlock dragons, I’d mention that you can increase your active gem gain by quite a lot by pressing the red gem with multiple fingers. Using two fingers is a lot faster than one and can give you a nice boost to your gem generation. However, if you’re looking to earn gems quickly I would recommend ramping up your passive gain with upgrades along with watching the occasional video advertisement for a quick boost of gems.
AdventureQuest Dragons is a very simple game and it doesn’t take long to master the controls, but considering its genre I don’t consider that a negative. AdventureQuest Dragons, like many similar games in the Idle clicker genre, aren’t intended to be mind-blowing experiences that vie for Game of the Year. AdventureQuest Dragons is a pretty addictive timewaster which is what it sets out to accomplish. Though the mechanics aren’t super varied I found the game difficult to put down as I wanted to maximize my gems per hour. Though there was some flavor text included with the training options for your dragons, this didn’t really matter to me. I can see how people that like the Adventure Quest World game or fans of dragons would enjoy the little roleplaying element the game offers, I’m convinced that the majority of players will end up like me – trying to increase my gains through upgrades as quickly and efficiently as possible.
The UI is solid and the art style attractive. I ran into zero bugs while playing the game which is a rarity for games I review. The game is completely quiet unless you press a button or upgrade your dragon, and the sound effects and music that rarely play are enjoyable and sparse enough that it’s hard to get tired of it.
Though I intended to open AdventureQuest Dragons and simply play long enough to write a solid review, I feel that this is a title I will continue to return to. The game offers addictiveness and progression without complicated mechanics which is a recipe for a great game, in my opinion.
I highly recommend AdventureQuest Dragons to anyone looking for an app to waste a few minutes – or in my case hours – at a time.
Artwork: The Artwork in AdventureQuest Dragons is well animated and every piece of art – from the dragons to the UI – seems to mesh together flawlessly: 10/10
Music / Sound Effects: As I mentioned above, the Music and Sound Effects rarely come into play in the game, but when they do they’re pretty enjoyable. However, I definitely think they could have done a little bit of a better job with these assets. Rating: 6/10
Story / Originality: There’s not really a story in the game, and the game pretty much copies other games in the genre. Rating: 2/10
General Gameplay: The gameplay is enjoyable and fluid. There were no bugs or obtrusive ads that detracted from my experience. I don’t think there’s a whole lot Artix Entertainment could have done to make AdventureQuest Dragons a better game Rating: 10/10
Addictiveness: AdventureQuest Dragons is extremely addicting. There’s always another goal to reach for, but they’re never so out of reach that the player feels discouraged. This game will keep me coming back for more. Rating: 10/10
Overall Rating: AdventureQuest Dragons is a great game all-around. The gameplay was solid, fluid, and enjoyable. I also found the mechanics super addicting and kept coming back for more. I have to dock a few points, however, as AdventureQuest Dragons really didn’t innovate. Despite that fact, AdventureQuest Dragons provides a solid experience that’s definitely worth downloading. Rating: 8/10
