Once you reach level five, you will unlock a variety of trading options, which will really help you set up a good economy for your kingdom. For instance, the Sea Trading Ship will be unlocked, which you can use to sell items to your friends on Facebook, but also people who you do not know. You will also be able to set custom prices to items, which allows you to buy low and sell high.

You should stack up on items that are currently on a discount, buy purchasing them from your friends for a very low price or simply by purchasing them from NPCs throughout the game. After the discount sale is over, you can set a higher price and sell the same items for a big profit. You can keep repeating this until you have set up a good economic system, and save up a lot of gold coins. You can then use the gold coins to build your Kingdom the way you want to.

CastleVille Legends Review

I like the fact that when I first started playing CastleVille Legends, that I had to go through a tutorial. The tutorial in this game is very educational, teaching you the proper way of playing this game and helping you to get used to the various features of the game itself. CastleVille Legends is a very feature-rich game, which can be overwhelming for casual mobile gamers. The tutorial really helps you settle in and get used to the gameplay itself. After the tutorial ends and you have played the game for a bit, the gameplay will become pretty straightforward. That doesn’t mean that the gameplay becomes boring though. There are tons of unlockable features, which you unlock by playing the game and leveling up.

Even though CastleVille Legends is yet another city building game, the developers did a good job in keeping it entertaining. There is a nicely implemented fantasy theme in the gameplay which really helps the game forward. I like the fact that you can check your kingdom out, zoom out if you want to see all of it and zoom back in if you want to see it in detail. You can also expand your kingdom by purchasing land and constructing more buildings on it. At some point, you will have a nicely build kingdom, which you can also share with your friends. A very positive aspect about CastleVille Legends is the fact that you can connect with your Facebook account, in order to be able to play with your friends. You can help each other out, trade items and support each other’s’ economies. Unfortunately, there were also several negative aspects about CastleVille Legends which really turned me off from the game.

The first negative aspect I encountered about CastleVille Legends is the fact that it feels like the developers want to make you spend real money on the game, in order to make it more enjoyable. Especially in late-game, the waiting times for buildings to be constructed but also for other actions to be completed, are extremely long. This means that you either have to have a lot of patience and simply wait it out by closing the game, or you have to spend premium currency to instantly complete your action. Of course it is almost impossible to obtain the premium currency by playing the game, so you will have to purchase it with real money. I have nothing against developers trying to generate some income for themselves, because they spend time to developer the game, but they should really look into making the premium currency cheaper, or easier to obtain by simply playing the game. This way they will reward loyal players, keep them happy and most likely attract more players to their game.

Occasionally there are pop-ups showing up, asking you to either try out another game by the same developer, or rate the game on the app store. I think that developers should never do this, because it is as annoying as having advertisements in your game. Whenever players enjoy playing your game, they will already rate the game by themselves anyways, so there is no need to ask for rates at all. Advertising other games, even if they are your own, is also a bad move in my opinion. Let the players decide for themselves if they want to play a totally different game or not. Once you build a reputation as a good game developer, players will check your other games out and play them if they are good.

Artwork: I give CastleVille Legends an 8/10 for its artwork. The graphics in CastleVille Legends is actually pretty decent, considering that it is a mobile game. The developers did a good job animating the graphics according to the fantasy theme of the game. I like the fact that every object in the game is detailed out and fits the fantasy theme as well. Another thing I really like about CastleVille Legends is the fact that the world map and characters on it all have idle animations. This means that everyone has its own animation, be it movements or facial expressions, which makes the game feel livelier. I could easily tell that the developers spend a lot of time on the graphics and animations of this game, making it fit with the fantasy theme.

Music & SFX: I give CastleVille Legends an 8/10 for its music and SFX. The soundtracks used in CastleVille Legends are very nice and fit the overall fantasy theme of the game. While the quality of the music in this game might not be very high, it does remind me of the music you would hear in the Lord of the Rings series. I like the fact when developers are able to implement good soundtracks into their games because it brings more entertainment to the game. There are also dozens of sound effects in CastleVille Legends, all of which have their own meaning.

Story & Originality: I give CastleVille Legends a 6/10 for its story and originality. Unfortunately, there are a lot of games out on the app stores that have a very similar gameplay to CastleVille Legends. It feels like the game is just another one of those knockoff city building games. I must admit that CastleVille does have a lot of neat features that make the game original in some way, but they should have done more in the way off different game mechanics that other games do not have at the moment. The game does have a nice story which you read about during the tutorial of the game, which adds some nice imagination and creativity to the gameplay itself.

General Gameplay: I give CastleVille Legends an 8/10 for general gameplay. When you first start playing CastleVille Legends, you will have to go through a tutorial, which teaches you the basics of the game. I think it is a very nice thing to have a tutorial in a feature-rich game such as CastleVille Legends, so that the players can get the hang of the game and won’t be confused on how to play the game. After the tutorial ends and you play the game for a while, the gameplay becomes pretty straightforward, but still fun and entertaining to play nonetheless. The controls are very responsive, navigating through the world map is very easy and everything works well.

Addictiveness: I give CastleVille Legends a 6/10 for addictiveness. CastleVille Legends is a city building game, set in a fantasy era (like Lord of the Rings), which makes it yet another one of those games with a hashed out idea. It is no lie that city building games are very popular on mobile devices, but the developers should really look into developing original ideas first. Because of this fact, the addictiveness for me was not that very high, but I can see why people would enjoy playing this game. The only downside for me was, that you would have to wait a long time for your buildings to be constructed or to complete other actions, especially later on in the gameplay. You could of course use premium currency to speed things up, but not everyone can afford to spend money on a free-to-play mobile game.

All things considered, I give CastleVille Legends a 7/10.
