Using any kind of power-up during these rounds make the game much easier to solve because if you manage to solve together two different treat types and also use a power-up, the round will pretty much be over by that time.
Even though the game may seem more based off of luck than it does based off of skill, there is quite a bit of strategy in it. Good players have the ability to detect which block will fall where after they remove a couple of blocks through a combo. Those people will be able to combo multiple lines together in one move. So it’s really not random, but at the beginning, you will want to think about it simply and just try and find combos of three or four in order to get the hang of the game before you try and get too into the game with strategy.
The different power-ups that are available through the game without using money are essential if you want to complete the game through not spending any extra money on the game. Even though the power-ups seem interesting, using them right away will make the later stages a lot more difficult to complete without the use of a power-up as a catalyst in finishing a round, so you should use your power-ups sparingly during the beginning of the game, and then you can go ahead and start using power-ups once the game goes later into the levels and as I have talked about, the levels getting harder after every single completion. If you have the ability to finish a level without having to use a power-up go do so because it will make the game later, that much easier.
Overall, the graphics in Book of Life: Sugar Smash is what separates itself from other games. Being that it is based off of a movie does give it a couple of extra bonus points in the beginning, but it would still be a good game without the use of a movie as a promotion standpoint.
Book of Life: Sugar Smash is based off of the new movie, The Book of Life, where you will get to see a bunch of characters from the movie make a couple of special appearances in the game while you are playing. I have no watched the movie, personally, but it has to have been quite good if they are willing to make a game based off of the movie. Other movie based games are mostly games that involve minions from Despicable Me or a couple of main characters from Star Wars, so Book of Life must have been a pretty good movie. As I’ve told you in the beginning, it is another Candy Crush-like game where your goal is to match three or more blocks so that they break and you can begin racking up the points through advanced power-ups as well as strategies.
Book of Life: Sugar Smash does provide a couple of extra aspects to the gameplay of the classic Candy Crush which make it a bit more strategy because any addition in gameplay make the game much more strategic than it was before. Considering the additions of the gameplay and the visual effects still maintain its well balance, the Book of Life: Sugar Smash is a good addition to the numerous versions of Candy Crush who hope to make it as big as Candy Crush has.
The difficulty of Candy Crush may get a bit too hard right off the bat without teaching new players a couple more tricks, so the game is meant more to take a bit more time so that you have to take the time to learn a couple more little tricks before being able to win a specifically hard round. Additionally, due to the games additions, it makes the difficulty increase by another stage due to the addition of some weird shapes that can’t go anywhere.
I would recommend this game to anybody who has played or hasn’t played the Candy Crush saga. The different aspects added to the game would be both an exciting upgrading for people who have already played Candy Crush as well as refreshing new game to those who haven’t played Candy Crush before.
Specific to the game itself, there have been a lot of complaints about the load time on each puzzle. People have complained about the time it takes to load up a stage, but are still complimentary of the game in the ally of it being an addicting game that keeps players coming back for more.
Artwork: I would give Book of Life: Sugar Smash Review a 7/10. The movie characters are actually really pleasant looking which make the game that much more enticing to play. The movie characters add a bit of a different taste than the regular Candy Crush which ultimately make the game a lot more interesting to play rather than simply playing without any artwork to appreciate when you aren’t solving a puzzle.
Music and SFX: I would give Book of Life: Sugar Smash Review a 7/10. The music is pretty decent considering it is just another Candy Crush game and the sound effects are also similar, but considering that the sound effects of Candy Crush were pretty good, I can’t blame them for using them to their advantage because it makes the game much more fun to play.
Story and Originality: I would give Book of Life: Sugar Smash Review a 6/10. There is a bit of a story in completing each level and eventually getting to the end of the line at the last level, but there is no real good underlying story that you need to solve throughout the game, which is okay, considering it is simply a puzzle solving game. The game isn’t particularly original because it does follow Candy Crush.
General Gameplay: I would give Book of Life: Sugar Smash Review a 8/10. It adds the gameplay of Candy Crush while also adding a couple features of its own such as new and different blocks as well as new power-ups.
Addictiveness: I would give Book of Life: Sugar Smash Review a 7/10. It is pretty addicting if you haven’t played any other Candy Crush or any alternative to it. You can get hooked pretty easily.
