Having a story helps players live with the characters of the game and it also adds some degree of excitement to the game. The gameplay itself starts off with a nicely build tutorial, which shows you the basics of running a pot operation. I think it is very nice that a simulator game such as Pot Farm – Grass Roots has a tutorial because of the fact that a lot of casual mobile gamers can become confused on what to do when they are not shown how to play the game properly.

The developers did a good job in implementing a controversial theme such as pot farms into the game and make it very entertaining to play. One of the things I really liked about the graphics is that every object in the game is really detailed out. The characters in the game itself have idle animations, which makes the game livelier in my opinion.

Another very positive aspect about Pot Farm – Grass Roots is the fact that the game does not have any advertisements implemented in it. This means that you will not see any annoying banners or obstructive pop-ups while you are playing the game. It is very understandable that developers of free-to-play games implement advertisements into their games because they need to make money as well, but having no ads is of course much better for the players.

The first negative aspect I experienced in Pot Farm – Grass Roots is that the waiting times for growing plants and building construction can run up to several hours, even a full day in late game. This means that players are getting very limited play time because of the fact that there is not much to do but wait for your crops to grown and for your buildings to be constructed. You can of course use specific items to speed things along but these cost a pretty penny. It makes the game feel like a cash grab, where the developers want to hook the players up to the gameplay and after that ask them for money to continue playing.

Artwork: I give Pot Farm – Grass Roots an 8/10 for its artwork. The graphics and animations in Pot Farm – Grass Roots are very cartoonish and it really fits the overall theme of the game. You do not need high end graphics for a farm simulator mobile game and the developers know this. I like the fact that there are many types of crops you can grow and many types of buildings you can construct, which means that the developer needed to spend time detailing them out. It is a nice touch that you can look around on your farm and even expand it if you wish. The characters on your farm also have idle animations which makes the farm feel livelier.

Music & SFX: I give Pot Farm – Grass Roots an 8/10 for its music and SFX. I like the fact that there are several soundtracks in Pot Farm – Grass Roots. Having good soundtracks in the game helps players be less bored while they are playing the game itself, while it also makes them less bothered due to the fact that they do not have to listen to the same soundtrack over and over again. There are many sound effects implemented in the game which makes the game feel livelier. I believe that the developers did a good job with the sounds in this game because both the soundtracks and the sound effects fit each other very well.

Story & Originality: I give Pot Farm – Grass Roots an 8/10 for its story and originality. There are many farm simulator games out on the app stores, so Pot Farm – Grass Roots is by far not original at all in that regarding. There aren’t however any weed producing farm simulators out, which makes Pot Farm – Grass Roots a very original game for 2016 in my eyes. The game also has a nice story at the beginning of the gameplay, showing you how you ended up with a pot farm and why you are doing what you are doing. It is very important to have a story in a game because of the fact that it gives players more imagination and they live with the characters.

General Gameplay: I give Pot Farm – Grass Roots an 8/10 for general gameplay. There is a tutorial at the beginning of the gameplay in Pot Farm – Grass Roots which teaches you the basics of the game and allows you to learn how to properly play the game. I think it is nice when feature-rich games such as Pot Farm – Grass Roots have a nicely build tutorial implemented in it so that even casual gamers will understand how to play the game. After the tutorial ends, the gameplay becomes pretty straightforward but still every entertaining to play because of all the features you can explore. The controls in this game are responsive and smooth, the user interface is clear and right from the start you will know what to do.

Addictiveness: I give Pot Farm – Grass Roots a 7/10 for addictiveness. The fact that this game does not have any energy bars or lives simply adds to the addictiveness of the game but it is very unfortunate that there are very long waiting times. At the beginning of the gameplay, your crops will grow fast and you will be able to construct buildings quickly, but after you have unlocked more things in the game, it will take a much longer time to be able to grow those crops and construct those buildings. You can use special items to instantly grow crops and construct buildings, but these cost real money and if you cannot afford to spend real money on a free-to-play game, you will have to be really patient.

All things considered, I give Pot Farm – Grass Roots an 8/10.
