The gameplay starts with a nice tutorial race, where you have to compete against an NPC. In the tutorial, you will learn how to properly tap on the gas pedal and how to shift into the next gears. You will also learn how to upgrade parts of your car in the workshop, which on itself is already very detailed and feature rich.
You can customize every vehicle, from its paint job to its engine block. I really like the fact that there are several game modes you can play, so if you are tired of a racing against NPCs, you can start racing against other players and see who the better drag racer between you is. It is very refreshing to see that there are still developers who are really devoted to their craft and actually put in lots of time into their games.
I like the fact that there are no advertisements in the game. This means that you will not be bothered or obstructed by annoying pop-up ads or banner ads and accidently tap on them. It is very understandable that developers of free-to-play games want to earn some money off of their games, but many developers really screw things up when it comes to ad placement. Luckily, this is not the fact with Nitro Nation Online.
Another very nice aspect about Nitro Nation Online is the fact that you can log in with your social media account or simply play with a guest account. You have your own profile where you can see your username and the country you are from. You can race against other players online, which is a great feature to have in a mobile game. Online multiplayer races seem to work perfectly. I did not experience any lag spikes or other connection problems.
There are not many negative aspects about Nitro Nation Online. The only thing I can think of is that purchasing different cars and upgrades in late-game can be very expensive. This means that players who can afford to spend real money on this game have a big advantage over players who can’t. You usually end up racing with players in the same class as you, but sometimes the system doesn’t work properly and you end up racing against cars with many custom parts in it. This simply means that you will not have a chance to win. You could of course purchase in-game credits to purchase new cars and upgrades, but this can cost a pretty penny. Perhaps the developers of Nitro Nation Online should implement a system where they will reward loyal players and give them a boost in their gameplays.
Artwork: I give Nitro Nation Online a 9/10 for its artwork. The graphics and animations in Nitro Nation Online are absolutely gorgeous, especially considering that it is a mobile game. I like the fact that the cars in the game have their real names and model numbers, instead of fake made up names. The fact that the developers were able to use real names and real car designs means that they either have a contract with all the car manufacturers or they paid a lot of money to use the name rights. The attention to detail is astonishing, especially with the way the developers were able to animate cars into the game. It is nice to see that the main menu is not cluttered with all kinds of buttons, but has a crisp and clear design instead. The game level designs are very good as well, with a lot of special effects during a race.
Music & SFX: I give Nitro Nation Online an 8/10 for its music and SFX. I like the fact that the main menu and gameplay itself has different kinds of soundtracks. This way the players will not be bored with listening to the same music over and over again. I think the developers did a good job with the rock/metal soundtrack choice because of the fact that it fits the underground racing scene very well. There are many sound effects implemented in the game as well, from main menu button sounds to engine revving sound effects. Another thing I want to mention is that it is nice that the soundtracks and sound effects are easy on the ears and will not take you out of your focus while you are playing the game. The developers did a good job combining the soundtracks and SFX together in Nitro Nation Online.
Story & Originality: I give Nitro Nation Online an 8/10 for its story and originality. There are many drag race type of games on the app stores but the developers of Nitro Nation Online took their game to another level. There are so many features in the game, many customization options, multiplayer racing, practice racing any many more. This makes Nitro Nation Online a very original game on its own. I also haven’t played many racing games which use real world cars and car names/designs. There is no real backstory in the game, but you don’t really need one to make the game enjoyable.
General Gameplay: I give Nitro Nation Online an 8/10 for general gameplay. There is a nicely build tutorial at the beginning of your gameplay, which teaches you how to properly race and win matches. It also shows you around the workshop, how you can upgrade your vehicle and how you can race against other players around the world. After the tutorial ends, the gameplay becomes pretty straightforward. This doesn’t mean that the game becomes boring, because it doesn’t. There are many game modes you can try out, many customizations you can apply to your vehicle and many other cars you can unlock.
Addictiveness: I give Nitro Nation Online an 8/10 for addictiveness. This game is really a godsend for car race enthusiasts because of its wide variety in cars and customizations. There are also no limits in how many times you can race, so you can just start the game and play as many times as you want. I found myself playing Nitro Nation Online for two hours before I noticed how fast the time passed by, and I am not even a car race fanatic or something.
All things considered, I give Nitro Nation Online an 8/10.
