The time lapse cheat entails that you need to forward the time on your device with a couple of hours, so that you can trick the game into believing that a couple of hours have passed by. This would mean that you can collect in-game dollars from your businesses and make a lot of money. The only problem is that the developers have implemented server checks in Rock the Vegas, which means that the time lapse cheat will most likely not work. You can always try to do it by setting your device on airplane mode, which allows you to play the game without being connected to the internet. There is no guarantee that the time lapse cheat will work.
There is a nicely constructed tutorial at the beginning of Rock the Vegas, which teaches you the basics of the game and helps you learn about the different building types of the game. It also shows you how to earn money and experience points. I think it is nice when city building games have a tutorial, or any other feature-rich mobile game for that matter, because of the fact that many players might be unfamiliar with the gameplay itself, so they will learn how to play it and not be confused. When the tutorial ends, you can start playing the game as you want and design your own casino city. The gameplay does get a bit straightforward when you have played it for a couple of hours, but because there are a lot of buildings to construct and a lot of options to explore, it stays entertaining and fun nonetheless.
I really like the fact that I did not face any advertisements during my gameplay. I played the game for three hours before I wrote this review, and during my whole gameplay, there was no single pop-up or ad banner. Of course, I understand when developers of free-to-play games decide to implement advertisements into their games, because they need to make money for their work. Unfortunately, many developers mess things up and make sure to implement ads in a very annoying and obstructive way. Thankfully, this is not the case with Rock the Vegas.
It is also nice that there is a multiplayer function implemented into Rock the Vegas. This means that you can add your friends, or get to know new people and play together. You can visit each other’s casino city and rate it. You can also send gifts to each other, which is nice, because you can use all the help you can get. Unfortunately there are also a few negative aspects about Rock the Vegas.
The first negative aspect I would like to mention about Rock the Vegas is the fact that there are long waiting times when you construct buildings. When you have played the game for a while and you want to construct a late-game building, the waiting times can amount from several hours up to whole days. I think this is absurd, because it makes the game feel like a cheap cash grab. The reason for this is because you can speed up construction and even instantly construct buildings by spending gold coins.
You cannot obtain gold coins by playing the game, which means that you will need to spend real money to get them and use them. Players who do not want to spend any money, or simply cannot spend any money on Rock the Vegas will have a real disadvantage over players who can. The developers should put a system in place which rewards loyal players with more gold coins, instead of the few which you receive with the daily rewards.
Artwork: I give Rock the Vegas an 8/10 for its artwork. The graphics and animations in Rock the Vegas are pretty decent, especially considering that it is a mobile game. The graphics of the game remind me of the old Sim City games, where you had to construct a successful city. Having such similarities with popular computer games, is in my opinion, a very good thing. Old-school computer gamers might feel nostalgic and enjoy playing Rock the Vegas even more. I like the fact that the game features a lot of different buildings, which shows that the developers spend some time developing them. The world map is very dynamic, which means you can zoom in and out of it and even expand it. There are a fair amount of animations on the world map as well, which not only makes the game livelier, but also makes the game more entertaining to play.
Music & SFX: I give Rock the Vegas an 8/10 for its music and SFX. During the gameplay of Rock the Vegas, you will hear several soundtracks. The soundtracks fit the whole Vegas/Casino theme pretty well but the thing I like the most about them is, that they are very easy on the ears. You will not get distracted or annoyed by loud music playing in the background while you are trying to play the game. Rock the Vegas also features many sound effects, which enforces the Vegas/Casino theme even more. I think the developers did a very good job in fitting the soundtracks and sound effects together perfectly.
Story & Originality: I give Rock the Vegas a 5/10 for its story and originality. Unfortunately, there are literally dozens of games on the app stores which are really similar to Rock the Vegas. I could name at least five games out of the top of my head where the game mechanics were literally the same as in Rock the Vegas, which makes the game really unoriginal. I know that developers usually copy game ideas from each other, especially if it is a popular one, but they should at least give it their own twist to it. The only reason I am cutting Rock the Vegas some slack is because of the fact that there is a little backstory in the tutorial, which tells you what your goals are and why you are doing what you are doing.
General Gameplay: I give Rock the Vegas a 7/10 for general gameplay. There is a nicely build tutorial at the beginning of the gameplay in Rock the Vegas, showing you the basics of the game and how to properly play the game in order to achieve your goals. The gameplay features a lot of options but keeps a straight line with quests, which you can complete to earn money and experience points. By leveling up, you will unlock many more buildings and features in the game, so you will always have something to play for. The controls are responsive and smooth and the user interface has a lot of buttons, but still very clear.
Addictiveness: I give Rock the Vegas a 7/10 for addictiveness. I must admit, even though the game idea of Rock the Vegas has been hashed out many times before, the game is still pretty addictive to play, especially if you enjoy city building games. I like the fact that players do not get a limited by energy bars or lives, so they are free to play as they please. The only obstacle in Rock the Vegas is the fact that constructing buildings can take a lot of time, especially in late-game gameplay, which really slows the game down and can turn a lot of people off from it.
All things considered, I give Rock the Vegas a 7/10.
