Jelly Jump is a simplistic game with a simplistic goal: jump as high as you can and don’t let the water reach your jelly. The game doesn’t waste much time on doing what’s not important, it puts you into action immediately when you start it up. You are shown your basic cube shaped jelly, and the game starts by a single tap.

Once the game has started, the water will start rising from the very bottom of the screen at an alarming rate, so you won’t have time to waste, but have to jump fast. Though jumping is not that simple, because there are platforms moving in from both sides above you and they will block the path of your jump, if they reach eachother. Your task is to both avoid the water and jump up before the platforms combine.
Each platform passed counts as one point in your final score and the game lasts until your jelly is consumed by the water. Although timing your jumps can be tricky, because while the platforms have some kind of a pattern, they sometimes move at different speeds. So if you jump too early or too late, you won’t be able to progress up and the water will reach your jelly, ending the game.

Other than the jumping mechanic, the game also offers small extras like the clock powerup, which if you collect will cause the game to go into slow motion for a short time. This can help a great deal with the next few jumps, as you will have more time to think.

There are also little jelly blobs appearing sometimes in Jelly Jump, which if you collect will award you with 10 jelly points each. If you collect 200 jelly points, you will be able to unlock a new shape for your jelly to use. These new shapes vary anywhere from a spiky ball or hollow cube to a car or spider. There will always be one new shape to unlock each time you reach enough points, but you can’t choose which one you want, it’s a surprise!

While you can customize your jelly by unlocking new shapes, the map and the jelly’s colors will also change randomly after each three or four tries. You can also manually choose which color pattern you want to play in by using the rightmost button in the menu.

The game also has leaderboards, where you can compete with others or your friends, but beating your own highscore is also an option.

There are also ads, mostly shown at the bottom of the screen, where tapping on them might be a little too easy. You can disable these by an in app purchase for $0.99.

Always keep your focus on the platforms and not the jelly itself, to make it easier to count the perfect time for your jumps.

Also remember to collect the jelly blobs when they appear, as they will give you the neccesary jelly points to unlock new shapes.

You might also consider disabling the ads by paying $0.99, if they annoy you a lot, but before doing so, think about how much you plan on playing this game. If you only play it for short whiles, then it’s better to just accept their existence.

Jelly Jump Review

Whenever I see a game like Jelly Jump, I always feel a little happy inside. It’s both because of its unique, pretty artstyle and also the fact that the gameplay is so addicting.

It’s very easy to get into this game, as I did during my playtime with it. The first few tries of mine were total failures, barely getting over 3 points, but it was never infuriating. As I spent a little more time with the game and got to know the basic mechanics, I felt much better about my progress and could easily reach 15 or more points.

As I got further, the game obviously became much harder. The speed of platforms increased the higher I got, with some slower ones thrown inbetween to put me out of my jumping pattern. My best score was 20, before I took a break of the game, and while it might not sound like a lot, give it a go and you will see how challenging it is!
The only thing that bothered me were the ads at the bottom, which I accidentally tapped multiple times. I’m not sure if it’s worth it to disable them by paying a dollar, but it’s up to you. Overall I really liked this game, it’s definitely an addicting title. I can safely recommend giving it a go.

Artwork: I give the artwork in Jelly Jump a 9/10. The game is stylistic and unique looking, there are not many like it. Its simple promise is well complimented by its charming looks.

Music & SFX: The music gets a 8/10 from me. The game features calm, chilly music, which perfectly fits the atmosphere presented by its artstyle. It’s very relaxing just to watch the nice looking backgrounds and listen to this calm song.

Story & Originality: The originality of the game gets a 6/10. I can’t really rate the story, as its non-existant in this game. It’s not an issue though, because it’s not the main focus in any stretch of the imagination. As for the originality, the idea of the game is not new at all, but the presentation is unique enough for it to work well.

General Gameplay: The general gameplay of Jelly Jump deserves a 9/10. The gameplay is so simple in this game, yet there is something extremely fun about it. The simple jumping mechanic, combined with the challenge of beating your own highscore and spiking it with the unlockables is a perfect mix for great gameplay.

Addictiveness: The addictiveness of the game gets a 9/10. The developers hit the nail on the head with this one, they created a formula that’s truly addicting. When you think you have had enough, you will surely find yourself going back to the charming and challenging gameplay, to beat your or other players’ highscores and unlock more crazy jellies.
