Thanks to countless movies, books and games we all probably have a clue about what to do if zombies were to assault our neighbourhood. There is one thing that never fails in a zombie apocalypse, and that is an arsenal of weapons. Let’s grab our trusty shotgun and take some zombie heads off in the physics based puzzler, Stupid Zombies 2!
Stupid Zombies 2 is the sequel to the highly successful Stupid Zombies, by the developer GameResort. They have also gifted the mobile gaming community with other titles such as Adventure Beaks, Probe the Humans and Stupid Ninjas, just to mention a few.
Stupid Zombies 2 is rated 4.1/5 stars on the Google Play Store, while ranking at 4.5/5 stars on the Apple App Store. A lot of praising can be heard about this game, saying it’s true to its predecessor, while also fixing up some things, so let’s see how much innovation and addictiveness can be found in this title!
Instead of comparing Stupid Zombies 2 to the original game, we will instead talk about how the game stands on it’s own in the no doubt heavily crowded zombie games market.
Before you can actually go out and blow the zombies to pieces, you will first need to choose your character in the main menu. There are two character options, one being male and the other female. Both of them use the same weapons and neither of them have bonuses over the other, so it’s entirely a cosmetic choice.
After choosing your character, you will see the chapter selection, with 6 different available chapters to choose from, each having 100 different levels. At first you will only be able to play the first one, the Lab, but each new chapter can be unlocked once you have enough stars earned on previous ones. Any level can be completed for a maximum of 3 stars, if you did well enough, so gathering 50 stars to unlock the second chapter, the City seems reasonable. Later on you will also be able to unlock the Forest, the Snow chapter, the Wild West and even the Circus, although for more stars.
Once you have chosen the chapter you want to play, you will probably expect brains hungry, blood thirsty zombies to be coming after you, but most of the enemies in Stupid Zombies 2 definitely prefer standing around with gaping mouths, instead of attacking the player.
When starting a level, your character is placed at a predetermined spot with a weapon ready. You are shown the amount of shots you can take on the level to kill all the zombies, who are placed in strategic positions. On most levels you will be using a shotgun, which has a single shot that you can use as many times as shown by the little counter at the bottom of the screen.
While the first few levels start out simple, with zombies being placed at convenient locations, you will soon realize that the difficulty has risen, with various obstacles placed between you and the zombies, giving you no clear sight of them. This is where the ricochet mechanic comes in. Using with the shotgun will cause each shot to ricochet off of the walls multiple times, making it possible to kill multiple zombie by a well planned ricocheting shot on a concrete wall.
Most levels will require you to use this mechanic to be successful, but not all levels force you to use the basic shotgun. There are also levels where you can use a rocket launcher, grenade launcher, machine gun or throw out a remote controlled turret, among even more varied weapons! Most of the weapons’ shots ricochet off of things the same way as the shotgun’s do, but aiming with them might be a little different. There is also an option to use sights on most weapons, which is indicated by a line when holding your finger on the screen. This line can be used to help you aim your shots and see where they will land once released.
Other than varying levels by using all kinds of weapons, Stupid Zombies 2 also has environmental weapons placed on some of its levels. These can be anything from a simple box or tire, to a valve which turns on steam to kill the zombies. Most of these can be shot at and moved or activated in this way.
Shooting at stationary zombies might get boring after a while, even when using environmental weapons, so why not add new enemy types? The game also introduces new enemies after a while in each chapter, some of them will move, climb the walls or even fly, while others will be twice the size of a normal zombie, yet have a crazy chainsaw, which will block bullets. Most of these new enemies require new tactics to defeat, or make you rethink your previously used tricks.
If you have trouble in Stupid Zombies 2, then there are in-app purchases available for things like Air Strikes, which if used on a level will clear all zombies, but only award you a one star rating. You can also purchase Ammo Resurrection, which can be used on levels where you ran out of ammo to restore it to full. These can be bought starting from $0.99 for the cheapest packages, to $9.99 for the most expensive packages. You can also spend real money to unlock chapters ahead of time for $0.99 each.
The game features ads as well, with a full screen ad shown after clearing 3-4 levels and also at the startup of the game. Other than those, there is another constantly visible ad at the bottom of the screen in the menus or when the game is paused, but not during gameplay.

Stupid Zombies 2 is a game which has multiple types of cheats available, some of these being allowed by the game itself. Let me tell you about some of these below!
Probably one of the most serious cheats this game has are the Air Strikes, which can be used on any level to fully clear it, without you having to shoot any of the zombies. This can be used to bypass or skip levels that turn out to be too hard.
If you don’t want to cheat through levels like that, then consider using the Ammo Resurrections, which will not instantly finish a level, but instead give you more ammo to work with. So if you want challenge, but feel like the amount of ammo given is not enough, then this cheat is for you!
As for a different kind of tip, you should consider trying to finish each level on 3 stars, if possible. Getting 3 stars is the easiest if you use the least amount of shots to kill all the zombies, and if you do this in a time as short as possible. Getting the maximum amount of stars on each level will let you unlock new chapters much faster than just breezing through the game with one star on each level.
Another tip that I can give you is to think about each level, and when you feel like you did it enough, then think again. Some levels might have a much simpler solution, which will not be obvious at first. A level looks like it needs a ricocheting shot from the front, but somehow it doesn’t get all the zombies? Maybe try shooting from a different angle! Anything can work, so use the reset button while trying out different tactics to beat levels!
Stupid Zombies 2 is a type of game which I usually enjoy, so it was no surprise that I had a lot of fun with this one. The game started with extremely simple levels, where it just required me to shoot the zombies standing in place, without anything blocking my view of them. This easy difficulty dragged on unneccesarily for a few levels.
Although it was very easy at first, soon I was greeted by more challenge, namely levels where ricocheting shots off the walls or obstacles was required to win. This is a mechanic that I enjoyed a lot, especially anytime I managed to use a single shot to take down 5 or more zombies in levels. I think the main enjoyment of Stupid Zombies 2 comes exactly from this, pushing your limits and seeing what is the least amount of shots you can use to beat each level.
During my playthrough I have unlocked the game up to the third chapter, the Forest. There were some new, interesting enemies introduced at this stage of the game, which was a very welcome thing. Some of these new enemies were flying zombies with bat wings, while others were boss sized lumberjack zombies. All of the enemy designs were actually great in the game, with small details that you wouldn’t really expect. The same detailed designs are true for both the player characters as well, but I liked the female one more.
Probably the only negative thing I can mention are the ads, but they were not too annoying either, since the gameplay is good enough to make me forget the little annoyances ads cause, especially because they can easily be skipped after a few seconds.
Overall I really liked this game and can recommend it to anyone who wishes to be lost on the 600 levels offered, as there is just so much fun content to be found here!
Ratings
Artwork: The artwork of Stupid Zombies 2 gets an 8/10 from me. I really liked the style of the game, with it’s clean and easy on the eyes look. Both the player characters and the zombies look detailed, which is great. While the backgrounds are somewhat simple, they don’t look bad either.
Music & SFX: The music and the SFX of the game gets a 7/10. While the levels themselves have no music, the menu has an army themed song played as background music, which fits the style of the game well. The SFX is very simple, mostly being limited to zombie moans and gun sounds, but all of these seemed to be good quality.
Story & Originality: I give the story and originality of Stupid Zombies 2 a 7/10. While the overall zombie theme is not really unique, the execution of the game makes it work much better than on paper. The artstyle and all the different additions of gameplay elements also help a great deal to expand on the basic promise.
General Gameplay: The general gameplay deserves an 8/10. While the game often has ads shown, the amount of gameplay you can get compared to the short 5 seconds ads after levels can easily be worth it. The physics based puzzling gameplay is a lot of fun, with all the different weapons and enemies being introduced as you get further into the game. The 600 levels is also a big plus.
Addictiveness: The addictiveness of the game gets an 8/10. There is always something new and interesting to be found in each new chapter, so the game never really gets stale. The basic gameplay mechanic of shooting at zombies is made more exciting by the ricocheting bullets and all the new weapons that are thrown in between the shotgun levels. There is definitely a lot of fun to be had in this addicting game, even in the long run!
Overall Score: 7/10.
