Lep’s World – Super Adventure is an arcade game developed by nerByte Gmbh, a relatively new company that has previously released only 2 sequels for Lep’s World – Super Adventure and Doodle Snake which is a standalone title. The game is available on both Apple and Android devices and it has been downloaded for more than 120 million times. It is free for Android and from time to time you can get it for free on Apple’s App Store as well. The game has a rating of 4.2 out of 5 on Google Play and 4 and a half star out of 5 on App Store. In order to run smoothly, your device is required to have an Android version of at least 2.3 or, if you are an Apple user, iOS 6.0 or later.
In Lep’s World Super Adventure you take the role of Lep who is a leprechaun that has lost all his gold and wants to get it back at all costs. The game is a platformer so you will run, jump and smash things during your quest of recovering the treasure. Also, you will be hunted by evil yet cute looking creatures and insects that for some reason want to stop you.
The game doesn’t have a mandatory sign-up, but the Android players are required to use the latest version of Google Play Services. Because of this, it is possible to keep your data and game’s progression even if you change your device or for some reason, uninstall and then reinstall the application. It is worth mentioning that the game has several ads but they are not too annoying or game-breaking.
Lep’s World – Super Adventure doesn’t have a premium currency but fortunately for players who want to support a game by paying real-money, there are several microtranscations available for them. You can skip a level for $0.99, you can buy several amounts of lives (starting from $1.99 and going up to $7.99), you can get Jumping or Running Shoes for $1.99 each (they will give you increased jump distance or speed depending on what you get), you can buy a Big Pack for $1.99 (which contains 100 Pinecones – the ammo in game) and so on. Also, for every purchase you make, the game will become ad free (or you can pay $0.99 separately for the feature).

Every single gamer out there has played at some point Super Mario or a derivate of it. Lep’s World Super Adventure is basically the same game but with a different theme. Here, you are looking for some stolen treasure instead of a princess, you are a leprechaun not an Italian plumber and the idea continues like this for the entire game. Nevertheless, you will have a nice experience with it.
What I like the most about Lep’s World Super Adventure is that it respects the “rules” of a good platformer. No strange innovation, no funky business. The game has a default classical (and successful) gameplay and that’s a great thing. Even though I am not a fan of the theme, I really appreciate the fact that the game is realistic (from the leprechaun universe’s point of view) and that all my enemies are insects that are my size. Furthermore, I like how collecting clovers rewards me with extra lives and that my weapon of choice are…pinecones. Who taught that the pinecones can be so deadly? Also, another thing I like about this little fun game is the fact that if it happens to die, you will not start over right from the beginning. I know that hardcore fans will disagree with me but on a mobile device your time is limited and if you are busy with… I don’t know, real life perhaps, you will find annoying to start all over again. If you are good, you can finish the game without dying so no worries.
There are also some things I don’t really like about Lep’s World Super Adventure too. First of all, I think that the developers should have made the story a bit more dramatic or complex. In order to like a game I need to identify (or at least imagine I do) with my character. Unfortunately, losing a big pot of gold in an imaginary world doesn’t really challenges me. Secondly, Lep’s World Super Adventure needs a more detailed bad guy. I said earlier that I need a more complex character to care about and naturally, I need someone to hate too. Think of I don’t know…Mario and Bowser (I didn’t do this on purpose). In the end, like I mentioned before (and will continue mention it) the game lacks the atmosphere of Super Mario series which is, unfortunately for the developers, unique and can’t be copied or surpassed (I dare you to prove me wrong).
Overall, I would recommend the game to everybody. It is casual enough to be played by all ages and is a perfect choice for a person who wants to entertain itself with a game for a while. However, if you are a dedicate Mario fan, you will probably despise this one.
Ratings
Artwork: Lep’s World Super Adventure gets a rating of 8 out of 10 for its artwork. It may seem odd for the reader to see such a high rating for such a simple game but it looks so neat that it would have been unfair otherwise. The game may look simple but, visually speaking, it’s almost flawless. It approaches a very colorful cartoonish theme that suits well with the game’s atmosphere and idea. I like how the environment looks even though it’s 2D and it doesn’t interact with the player, I like the character models and I think that the animations which are a bit childish are a perfectly fit for a good-looking game. With Lep’s World Super Adventure you learn that a game doesn’t need to have “stunning realistic graphics” in order to get a decent rating.
Music & SFX: I give the game a rating of 8 out of 10 at this segment. The music’s length and variety is not something I would brag about but it’s so funny and well-suited that makes those problems fade away. Because the atmosphere it creates, you will most likely feel like you stepped into the leprechaun’s world. On the other hand, I can’t honestly say that I like the sound effects. They are somehow good but I would have expected more. Lep’s World Super Adventure is a game that had the potential to have a great soundtrack but unfortunately the developers didn’t focus on this aspect.
Story/Originality: Lep’s World Super Adventure gets 7 out of 10 at this section. Everybody with a “history” in gaming realize from the beginning that this game is inspired from the Mario Series. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing because these days you can’t really say that a game is 100% authentic. However, at the same time you can’t deny the resemblance between Lep’s World Super Adventure and Super Mario. With that being said, I can point out that this game has its own story (nothing too serious but it’s an arcade after all) and that overall, it can offer a decent experience to the player if you let it.
General Gameplay: I give the game a rating of 7 out of 10 for its gameplay. You don’t really need a tutorial for a platformer even though you have never played (highly unlikely) this genre before. The controls are fairly simple because you only have 4 buttons from which 3 are used for movement and 1 for shooting. Unfortunately, personally, I can’t stand the gameplay. It feels wrong to mash my mobile device screen so a leprechaun can jump. I honestly believe that any Mario-like game should exist only on platforms with gamepads and/or keyboards. For the time I’ve played the game I haven’t encountered any major bugs, freezes or crashes.
Addictiveness: Lep’s World Super Adventure gets 7 out of 10 for its addictiveness. If you are a fan of platformer arcade games you will most likely get addicted with this little game. You have just enough levels and worlds to cover and not to get bored. The game doesn’t have a lot of extra content available but you have a decent amount of additional stuff to do besides trying to find your stolen gold. You can and you will collect coins, clovers, pot of golds, squash nasty insects and try to get a decent score.
Overall, Lep’s World Super Adventure gets a rating of 7.4 out of 10. I like the game and I will probably play it some more but, as I mentioned so many times before, the game is not Super Mario and it will never be.
