Moy 3 at a first look is just like any other pet game, only this time you have a little blob called Moy to take care of. When you first meet your Moy, you will be asked to name it. You can either leave it as it is or give it a unique name. Once that’s done, you are given the opportunity to take care of your pet!
Your Moy has four different needs that you need to make sure are fulfilled. The first need is happiness, which can be restored by playing any of the different minigames available. There are over 19 different minigames that you can play, including matching shapes, playing a frogger type of game, match-3 with fruits, or even squashing bugs that would reach a cookie on a plate. These are just a few examples, but all minigames not only make Moy happy, but also award you with coins depending on how well you did.
The second need of your little pet blob is hunger. If Moy is hungry, you will have to buy some ingredients using your coins and prepare different kinds of food. Any food will restore the hunger meter, but some ingredients cost less than others.
The third need in Moy 3 is sleep. If your pet gets tired, it will be less likely to want to play, so you will have to send it to sleep by using the sun/moon button. Sleep only requires you to wait until the sleep meter is full, then you can keep playing with your pet!
The last need is the health of Moy, which will go down as time passes and can be restored by buying medicine. Cheaper medicine restores the health meter less, while expensive pills will work better.
Other than taking care of Moy’s needs, you can also spend coins on buying various outfitting and customization items. These can be anything like googly eyes in different colors, blob color changes, hair types and hats for Moy, glasses or eyebrows, different outfits like pirate, princess or even cow, among a lot more. You can also buy new type of floor tiles and backgrounds for Moy’s house, along with decoration items like flowers or lava lamps. If that’s not enough customization yet, Moy 3 also has a fishtank, where you can purchase all kinds of fish to collect.
Since the game is a virtual pet simulator, as time passes by everything in the game will require your attention, including your pet’s home and clothes, which will both get dirty after a while. You can use the vacuum cleaner and the washing machine buttons to take care of it. Time passing by won’t only do bad things though, as your Moy will also age and become bigger the older it is, passing various stages like teenager, adult or elder.
Moy 3 is versatile as well, since it has something fun to do for all kinds of people. The features not mentioned yet include the talk-back options of Moy. You can turn this on using a button and it will make your little blob listen to noises and try to repeat it in its own voice. Another feature is meant for people that love gambling, as the game has a slots machine button. This allows the player to bet 10 coins for a spin, with possible rewards up to 500 coins.
Of course what would a game like this be without social interactions? You have a separate button for visiting random Moys in the world, owned by other players. These visits also show which country the player is from, indicating how internationally popular the game is. You can also get coins as a present for visiting these people once a day.
Moy 3 also has microtransactions in the form of a pack of 25,000 coins for $1.99, and some complete outfits like space suit or knight armor for $1.99 each. Other than microtransactions, the game also has some ads, which are sometimes shown between screen changes, like when going from a minigame to the main screen, but they are not too distruptive overall.
Moy 3 is a game where coins are the only currency and they are needed for most of the game’s non-minigame features. You might wish for some cheats and tips to get these coins easier. I’m here today to show you some ways to gathering these shinies!
One of the easiest ways to get coins in Moy 3 is to use the minigames. You can win so many coins with low effort that it’s funny. Probably the easiest method to use is to play the shape matching minigame, which is the 5th on the list. Playing this game and matching at least 80% of the shapes under the time limit will get you 150 coins or more, for 20 seconds of your time. Repeat this as many times as you want for a good amount of coins.
If you don’t want to do repetitive tasks, then try out all the various minigames and play the ones you like the most. There are 19 to choose from and some are genuinely fun, like the wall climber. Or if you are bored of the minigames, cheats are also there for you.
Another good way to get some free coins is to visit other players daily, as random presents might appear next to their Moy when you visit, which will always contain some coins for you. If you like their pet, then you can even press the like button next to it.
Lastly, remember that while the game tells you to clean up Moy’s home, clothes and take care of its needs often, you can disregard this for as long as you wish. Don’t be stressed about not being able to play the game for a few days, nothing bad will happen! Once you are back in the game, you can take care of your pet and it will be happy again!
Well, where to start? Moy 3 is more like an exhibition at first, than a game. You can name and then look at your Moy, without interacting with it much. You can tap on it and it will even follow your finger on the screen with its eyes while whistling, but that’s it.
Until you find the minigames section, Moy 3 will not be too exciting. Once you have found it though, the game expands and becomes much better. Personally, during my gameplay I enjoyed the minigames a lot more than taking care of the pet itself. Some of these minigames are even well done enough that they could be a separate application. In this aspect, Moy 3 is a great game that collects all these different minigames into one app, instead of having to download multiple.
On the other hand, taking care of Moy’s hunger, sleep and health are not too exciting. Most of these require you to spend coins and are not too interactive overall. Buying fish for the fishtank also doesn’t really do much, other than being able to watch the fish for hours on end.
In the end, I decided to look at the game as a collection of minigames, which is guarded by my Moy with devil horns, which made it actually kinda fun. Other people with much older pets, with full clothing and customization might look at mine and think that it’s nothing special, but I don’t mind.
Overall, this game is a fun one, if you want a collection of minigames, but if you want an advanced and expansive virtual pet game, where you can interact with your pet heavily, then this is not the one.
Ratings
Artwork: The artwork of Moy 3 gets an 8/10. The game has a simple artstyle, yet it’s perfectly fitting to the gameplay itself. A little silly, but well done nonetheless. The minigames also use the same unified style as the main part of the game, which is a plus.
Music & SFX: The music of the game deserves a 5/10. Personally I haven’t found the music to be too interesting, and after a while it became very tiresome to listen to it on repeat. At least it changes somewhat during minigames, but all songs in the game are very generic and same-ish. The SFX is alright in most of the game, but Moy’s voice and whistles can be a little annoying at times, as it happens just too often.
Story & Originality: Regarding the originality of Moy 3, I give it a 6/10. The game uses the same tropes as most virtual pet games. It has a main screen with the pet, and various buttons to do all kinds of tasks, just like in most similar games. I can’t really say it’s an inspired game, but it gets a 6 at least for the presentation.
General Gameplay: I give the general gameplay a 7/10. I would rate this much lower, if not for the minigames. Those are the most fun parts of the game, while customizing, outfitting and taking care of Moy is a secondary thing, in my opinion. You can use the coins earned from the minigames to buy stuff for the little blob to show it off, but the lack of interactivity with the pet is disappointing, to say the least.
Addictiveness: On the addictivity scale, the game gets a 7/10 as well. Is there a point in coming back to this game day after day? Yes, for the minigames. Is there a point in worrying about the fate of your pet? No. Just take it easy and play the game whenever you wish. Moy’s place might get dirty, but the minigames are always available, which are honestly the only thing that make this game relevant in the long run.
Overall Score: 6/10.
