Archery Master 3D is a sports game developed by a company called TerranDroid, which is also known for several other games such as Turbo Driving Racing 3D, Zombie Road Racing and Bike Xtreme. The game is available only on Android and it requires a version of at least 2.1 to run smoothly. Archery Master 3D has an average rating of 4.2 out of 5 on Google Play and it has been downloaded for more than 10 million times.
As you may have already guessed, in this game you take the role of an archer who needs to practice until perfection – hitting a bullseye (gold-green area) will grant you 10 points and that’s your main objective. The game is relatively simple and it doesn’t have any outstanding features so it is most likely addressed to fans of archery and to curious casual players.
Unfortunately, in Archery Master 3D you don’t have the possibility of signing-up or link any social account (such as Google+, Facebook) with the game. Because of this, replacing your device or for some reason uninstalling and then reinstalling the app will make you lose any progress you’ve made until that point.
The main currency of the game is called Coins and you can use it to buy new bows, different arrows or other kind of equipment such as quivers or stabilizers. In order to earn coins you have to complete missions but luckily for those who want to show their support to the developers, you can purchase Coins with real money. The price for them varies depending on the amount you buy – starting from $1.99 in exchange of a few coins (5,000) and going up to $99.99 for piles of coins (meaning 350,000). Also, making a one-time purchase of at least $4.99 will provide you an ad-free game.

There was always a special something about Robin Hood. And then about Legolas. And then about Katniss. And then about Oliver Queen. Now it is our time to shine. It doesn’t matter that this happens only in Archery Master 3D. The game has an interesting concept and with some remodeling and additional content it can be pretty solid. At the moment, it is not just that great.
The best feature of the Archery Master 3D I can think of is perhaps the fact that you can challenge masters. Everything is offline and with AI players obviously, but I have never encountered such a smart idea. Usually, challenges are boring and they don’t bring anything new to a game. However, if you put some random (or not) names out there and a text saying “You will compete with Olympic champions 1-vs-1” will do wonders. I was really impressed by this little feature. I also like the fact that the game has more than enough levels (maybe too many) to satisfy your curiosity about archery. I also like those bonus levels where you hit balloons and you get coins depending on your marksman skill and the fact that you get extra arrows if you get high scores (similar to bowling strikes at the end). Those things may not seem really important if you are talking about the big picture, but they keep the player entertained and that’s what matters the most.
There are some things I don’t really like about Archery Master 3D as well. For example, I am disappointed because you can’t save your progress in any way. I spent some time to reach a certain level, I would like to know that if I want to play the game again in the future I can start from where I left in the first place. Also, the gameplay is a bit annoying from my point of view. I get it that it must be hard to aim because that’s how it is in real life but I would like to change the sensitivity at least for a bit– there is no feeling of control in this game and it really bugs me. If you don’t hit the target in the first second, you will have a hard time doing so during the next nine.
One of the other things I want to point out, even though I find it more amusing than unpleasing is the “arrow follow” video effect where the camera goes with the arrow. Normally, it should be “triggered” only when you hit a bullseye. In Archery Master 3D, that is not the case. It will pop-up at the last arrow on each level but also randomly and it will make me look like fool when I start to early celebrate what soon turns to be a 2 points hit.
Overall, Archery Master 3D is a game I would most likely recommend. You don’t have to expect much from the game because you will be disappointed but otherwise you should try it. There is nothing to lose because it is free and Android-exclusive.
Ratings
Artwork: Archery Master 3D gets a rating of 7 out of 10 for its artwork. From any game that has “3D” in its title, you should expect a shady graphic engine but with 3D model and Archery Master 3D is no exception. The environment is the same almost every time – except the part where you change the “landscape”. There isn’t anything special about it. The character design is not really that important because you can see only his bow and hands. One of the good things about Archery Master’s 3D is probably the design of the bows which is very detailed and looks nice. The animations effects, as I mentioned before, are interesting but they seem out of place from time to time.
Music & SFX: The game gets a rating of 6 out of 10 at this segment. It may be surprising for you but this is one of the few games where I do not “demand” music during the gameplay. Here, you really need to focus so there is no place for a beat in the background. However, because I don’t expect to hear a soundtrack in-game I have greater demands from the sound effects and the menu music. The last is boring, doesn’t match with the theme and it is really repetitive. The sound effects are decent but they aren’t as good as they should be. Archery Master 3D is another game where the developers forgot about this segment.
Story/Originality: I give Archery Master 3D a rating of 7 out of 10 at this section. The game doesn’t have a story whatsoever and I don’t think that it would have helped it much. There are a few other Archery games on the market but that’s not surprising – all of the sports ideas are taken by several developers. This game has a bit of original elements and I appreciate that but I believe that it could have been better. It is not similar to others but you can’t talk about authenticity either. At least, you have several options to pick from.
General Gameplay: The game gets a rating of 7 out of 10 for its gameplay. You don’t have a real tutorial (you can access it at any time by pressing “?”) in Archery Master 3D but fortunately you don’t need one. Basically you just aim and hit the target, there is no rocket science. The reason the game gets a rather low rating is solely because you don’t have any real control on the bow. As I already mentioned, it is difficult to aim when the bow doesn’t “listen” to you – the sensitivity should be changed or other “movement” options should be implemented. Also, every time an ad runs, everything is “laggy” for a few seconds and that can disrupt your focus.
Addictiveness: Archery Master 3D gets a rating of 7 out of 10 for its addictiveness. I appreciate the fact that developers did their best to make sure the player doesn’t get bored too soon – a few layouts, dozens of levels, different types of bows and arrows and even a daily reward. However, Archery is more entertaining in real life. On your mobile device you will play it for a day and then you will most likely give up. Personally, I got bored of it on Wii but I still want to try it in real life. The game is as addictive as a game with this theme can be and I believe that the developers did a more than decent job.
Overall, Archery Master 3D gets a rating of 6.8 out of 10. The game is average at all aspects and it doesn’t shine in any department. It could have been better, that’s true, but it is still pretty decent in my opinion.
