This high school game is very much like any other game that you would find, but it does an excellent job at portraying it unlike some of the other games. Some other games don’t feel quite right when you play them, but this one feels perfect when you play it.
I think that High School Story feels really realistic. The artwork is superb on it, and the music and sound effects add an extra level of integration to the game. The music gives it the laid back feeling while the sound effects just add those extra little “pops” to the game that really makes it worth your while to listen to it with your sound on for the game.
It is cool that you can build the actual buildings of the high schools while actually playing it, and the fact that those buildings actually make you some extra money is great too. The customization on this game can make it quite addictive. You want to buy all of the different buildings so that you can see what’s inside all of the different ones but at the same time you want some more clothing so that you can customize your look in so many different ways. I think that the concept of playing the game while also building the buildings is incredibly unique and that this aspect of the game alone is enough to get people to download it and play it. Most other “high school” games only have the player playing out the life of the high-schooler, this one is the first that I have seen that allows you to build and to play simultaneously.
This game has quite the success with it’s micro-transactions in game, but they also didn’t have any ads that I had noticed. While the micro-transactions play a huge part in the company’s income it would be nice to see them making that little bit of extra revenue by placing strategic ads. It just helps them make the little bit of extra money to maybe help them develop a game, or just make a little extra for a game that they did a stellar job on. Something else that I might recommend for the game is making the dialog a bit less clunky.
The starting dialog feels very awkward when you first come into the game, and it doesn’t feel at all what actual high school students would say. For example when Autumn says “Look at you, hitting the books already” no one at high school would respond with the same answer as the main character says: “Well I am a bit of a nerd”. If the person was a nerd responding to that in a real life scenario, they would probably respond with “Yeah, I just wanted to get a head start on classes”. While it may not seem like a huge difference to the game it just makes the game flow more smoothly and doesn’t make the game feel as awkward when playing it.
Another example would be at the start when Autumn first talks to you, no high schooler would just blatantly say to someone that walked up to them “So, you’re trespassing”. While I don’t know what they should have put it definietly should not have been that line. Overall, High School story is a cool, innovative game that has some room for improvement but the game is still a solid choice that is definietly worth it to download.
Ratings
Artwork:
I would give High school story a rating of 8/10 based on artwork. In my opinion I like this artwork because this reminds me of a game I have been playing since my childhood. And that game is called The Sims. This game reminds me a lot like Sims because the graphics are similar to them. The faces, and the actions, as well as traits all are similar to Sims. Even clothes, hairstyle, eye color, as well as nose are putted into this for customization. I really like this artwork because this brings back my childhood when I would be bored, and I would stay up late at night and made sure my parents didn’t catch me awake while I was taking my time playing that game. . The map itself is pretty unique. And that is why you know that the producer has spent a lot of time towards this piece of topic. Artwork. Further details in general gameplay. This is why I would rate High school story a rating of 8/10.
Music and SFX
I would give High school story, a total rating of 8/10. I give this section a good rating because the music is smooth and it blends in with the general gameplay itself. It is comfortable listening to it and brings a good smooth background. For example, the songs From High school story would be relateable towards sounds that can put you to sleep, not because it is horrible, but because the music, but because of the fact that it is a relaxing rhythm and tone. There is effects and sounds for each move you do, like for example when you place a cottage, you are able to indicate that you have actually placed something due to the fact of a small sound effect. There is also other numerous sound effects such as when you finish enrolling a student, or when a construction of a building is complete. In conclusion this is why I gave the music’s and SFX as well as the sound effects such a well detailed rating, a 8/10. The effects, music, and SFX are all well detailed as you can tell. The producer has spent a lot of time before realizing this game.
Story and originality
For High school story, I would give this rating same as always, and that would be a 8/10. So far I have given all three topics such a decent high rating. This reason Is because this story type line is very unique. The producer was able to create a new game based on similar games who have been pastely realized. Such as the game we all know “The Sims”. We may all know that this game is a really popular game, as for the EA company. Our imaginations were mind blowing when we found out that we were able to have Sims play as like a normal human being. In the description of High school story, it says “It’s time to head back to school, but don’t despair, because HSS has a ton of amazing new content coming your way!
Kick back with the new Jazz Club type, or style your way to success in the Back to School or Game, Set, Match outfits!” With the description read, you can tell that this would remind you a lot of the game I once already announced, The Sims. “Jazz Club type, or style your way to success in the Back to School or Game, Set, Match outfits!” This reminds me of sims because the sims would have audio which occasionally you could and would find Jazz music, or even having style such as dressing up yourselves. Straight away, I was able to compare these two games because they were so similar. The Story starts off as how you come in, and what occurs is that a new high school has just opened and your one of the people who are in charge of the land given. Next up this connects to the music. Where the music blends in and creates a smooth imagination if you close your eyes.
But none the less the story is very unique! I was also able to notice about the originality. The originality was just like how unique this game is. It is well made in my honest opinion. The producer can be noticed at this point due to the fact that you are able to relax and play this game without any difficulty. The storyline and how unique/ Original this game is, is very extremely excellent and this is why I gave this game a high rating. In conclusion I would give High School story a good rating, It was well made.
General gameplay
For general gameplay, I would give High school story a rating of 8/10. You may as why how come for all of the ratings for this section of the game would be the same average ratings you would normally see. This gameplay starts off with the background story where the new school opens and you recruit the people who are able to do weird things, Next up the tutorial comes where it shows you how to build, for example let me show you how to build a Nerd’s hangout, where you re able to enroll new students.
While you are focused on that there is actually a limited amount of space where you can build, You have to build several buildings for your new high school, so make sure you don’t use all of the space you have or have a wacky weird set up in terms of building placements. The storyline goes very smooth, as you meet Autumn, your first friend who is also roaming around this new high school due to the fact that there is a grand opening. She stays with you and you progress with her. Missions or known as Quests are obviously going to pop out in this game, but there is a bit of joy for each time you accomplish. In my opinion I find one thing a bit annoying, and that is when you tap for study on your character, you have to take it a lot of times in order for you to be done. Which can cause not a lot of time consuming?
But it is annoying in general because I find it not really cool having to tap this and that multiple times. I mean, wouldn’t you get bored? One common quest is that there is a bully and our job I to stop them as you are the nerd around. This game is quite whacking because you all in the game are being called nerds. One good thing about placing buildings is that you can rotate to your likings. For example you may not like this side of the view on the building you are about to place, but you are able to rotate it until you love it. Once the basic tutorial is complete you have now a few more characters you can name, and change any personal personalization. Sports also occur in this game, such as students who are first enrolled who are interested in football, and also when you are able to choose which kind of quests you would like to do and prefer over the ones you dislike. For the time being, this is why I chose a rating of 8/10 for High school story.
Addictiveness
I would give High school story a rating of 7/10 for addictiveness. This is not lower because of the fact that this may get annoying or boring at times after you play for a long time. But because the reason is because of the fact that they were able to make this type of game on mobile itself is already a high standard rating. The reason the this rating dropped by one, is because I have played games like this in the past. But that is on computer. And have not played it as an app. I personally have played enough of these types of games, because not a lot of producers that made these types of games in the past have been really successful.
I have Had lost faith in most of them, but seeing that they were able to make a successful game like this towards in an app surprises me. I like the idea, and the ratings for the other people are not bad. They give ratings like 5/5, and I would absolutely agree with that because they were able to make a successful game like this on a small or big app which is for iPhones, iPod etc. In conclusion, I really like the fact that the producer has created such a solid sturdy game genre based on like this. It reminds me of many games I have played in the past and this is beneficial to rate this because I feel as if this is the right choice as I am being fair in terms of rating this game. In conclusion this is why I give High school Story a total rating of 7/10.
Overall Rating
I would rate High School Story a 8/10
