• There are 4 different races. Each of them come with its own advantages and disadvantages. In order to get a morale boost you need to have all the troops belonging to the same race.

• In order to unlock new troops you need to do quests or to directly buy them from the shop.

• Even though the game is a strategy one, it has a lot of RPG elements. Because of this I would advise you to do all the side quests besides the main ones.

• When you are not using your device or you don’t want to play the game, send your troops to Patrol. They will get some gold and even some experience. It is a small amount but it’s better than nothing.

• Watch for special offers. Every once in awhile, there are some cheap special offers that will offer you consistent discounts for premium items. You should keep an eye on them.

• Be friendly. There are some special quests that can only be done with the help from other people. Get allies as soon as possible – you might even get some friends.

• Send gift to those friends we’ve mentioned above. They will most likely return the favor and there are also some features you can use (free friend spell for example).

• In battles focus on one enemy at a time. Start with the strongest one and after you kill him, move to the next stronger one. Also, keep your ranged units safe, they are weak in close combat.

King’s Bounty: Legions Review

Strategy games never get old. Saving the world neither. No matter how many games about saving the world, regardless the genre and no matter how many strategy games are there on the market, there will always be another developing team who will try to amaze the world once more. King’s Bounty Legions is not there yet but it isn’t that far. There are a lot of things that need to be changed but the future is bright.

The most interesting thing about King’s Bounty Legions, in my opinion, is the turn-based battle. It is basically a hexagonal game of chess with monsters and spells. Don’t get me wrong, I like action games where you have little time to react but I really like the idea of calculating all your actions (even though the hexagonal grid of the game it is inspired from Heroes of Might and Magic). The other great thing (there are additional good things but not so great) is the multiplayer implementation and the way the developers used it. Not only you have clans and recruit Facebook friends and stuff like that.

You participate in special missions where you get the aid of your friends and you get rewarded based on your team’s performance. If this doesn’t bring players from all over the world together, I don’t know what. I also like that even though the players who invest real money gain extra slightly better units and stuff, there are a lot of promotions and discounts and even ways of getting free gems so you can keep up with them. That is a good thing in my opinion, especially for a free to play game.

There are a few things I don’t like about King’s Bounty Legions as well. First of all I believe that the game currently lacks a balance between the 4 races. Some of them are overpowered (I won’t say which one, find that yourself), some of them are too hard to get and so on. A rebalancing of all the troops and maybe of their hierarchy can help a lot. Secondly, I think that the game needs some graphic retouching.

A lot of time has passed since its release and even though it still looks good, some small enhancements don’t hurt anybody. Finally, I really don’t like the fact that you aren’t allowed to do more of the side quests and less of the main quests. The sense of freedom is limited – the developers should add more side quests or be more permissive regarding the main quests and King’s Bounty Legion should be fine…I guess.

Overall, King’s Bounty Legions is a game I would most likely recommend. There are some flaws about it, that’s true and I know for certain that there will be more than a few players who will not like it. However, King’s Bounty Legions still remains a solid title.

Ratings

Artwork: I give King’s Bounty Legions a rating of 8 out of 10 for its artwork.  The game has a medieval-fantasy theme which is interesting enough because you can see the influence in all the buildings design. The graphics are not looking excellent but you can’t complain much either.  The character design is nice and each type of unit looks different and comes with its own set of movement animations and skills. The animations effects (which includes attacks, movement and spell usage) are a bit clunky in my opinion but again, even though they are not spectacular you can’t say they are awful either.

Music & SFX: King’s Bounty Legions gets a rating of 7 out of 10 at this section. The good part is that the music matches with the theme and provides an even further deeply fantasy atmosphere. However, the bad part is the dullness of it. Usually, in similar titles like King’s Bounty Legions, the music is the main factor of making the game attractive. Here is not the case – the soundtrack is only abstract and “hidden” just like some background random music. The sound effects are interesting but unfortunately they become repetitive relatively fast.  I am a bit disappointed by the outcome.

Story/Originality: The game gets a rating of 8 out of 10 at this department. Being a strategy-RPG game it is not unusual to see a pretty complex story in King’s Bounty Legions. There isn’t anything extraordinary about it because it is basically the common one – something bad happened and you are required to save the world – but at least there is a story. In terms of originality, I can say that the game looks pretty honorable. There are a few interesting original elements and there is clearly an influence from other similar titles but I can’t complain much about this.

General Gameplay: I give King’s Bounty Legions a rating of 8 out of 10 for its gameplay. Even though there is a thorough tutorial in the beginning, the game is still pretty overwhelming. There are complex tasks to be done, the army management requires some previous experience (or tons of luck) and you will definitely only learn by playing and from your mistakes. If you fancy this type of games, you will probably get over those issues and enjoy playing. For the time I’ve played, I haven’t encountered any major bugs, freezes or crashes.

Addictiveness: King’s Bounty Legions gets a rating of 8 out of 10 for its addictiveness. The game has almost all the “required” elements to be considered addictive: daily quests, a very interesting multiplayer implementation with special quests and features, character progression, army progression, different tasks to do and many more features that you will discover by playing. The main and mostly the only problem King’s Bounty Legions has is the fact that the game is too hard for a new/not-so-interested player to be attracted by it. The good thing is that if you know where to look or how to ask you will most likely get help.

Overall, King’s Bounty Legions gets a rating 7.8 out of 10. This rating reflects the fact that the game is above average and that is has the potential to be pretty popular if smart updates and changes are made.
