WARSHIP BATTLE: 3D World War II is an Action game developed by Joycity Corp., a company known for other titles such as Dungeon Trackers, Elemental Wings or Rule the Sky. The game is available on both Android and Apple and it has been downloaded for about 10 million times in 2016. It has an average rating of 4.2 out of 5 on Google Play and 4 and a half stars from a maximum of 5 on Apple’s App Store. In order to run at optimal parameters, the game requires an iOS version of at least 6.0 or, for Android users, a version of 2.3 or later.
In WARSHIP BATTLE: 3D World War II (that’s an impressive name) you take the role of a ship commander that needs to do his missions so his country of origin wins the war. The action is happening during the World War II and each episode of the scenario is presumably a re-enact of real-life naval battles. The game is interesting, I must admit, because you can learn some history while you relax – best combination ever.
The game doesn’t require a mandatory sign-up but if you are an Android user you will be required to connect with your Google Play Services account. By doing so you will ensure no data loss in case of changing your device or if for some reason you uninstall and then reinstall WARSHIP Battle 3D World War II. Also, you will be able to join the rankings and see how good you and your friends are if they are playing the game. Only good stuff is happening when you sign-in, go for it.
WARSHIP BATTLE 3D World War II is a game that has 2 types of resources from which one is premium (named Gold) because it can only be obtained by paying real money (or by completing various tasks but at a much lower rate). The price for Gold varies starting from $1.99 in exchange of 100 and going up to $49.99 in exchange of 3,250. There are also several other special packs and promos that can be bought with real money so keep an eye on them. Also, it is worth saying that any successful microtransaction (with the exception of the $1.99 one) will grant an ad-free game.

When it comes to reviewing a World War II (and war-themed in general) game I am always enthusiastic because I really like to talk about the wars that happened and about history in general. However, reviewing a naval-only World War II game is something new for me and I was more than excited to do so.
What I like the most about Warship Battle 3D is how the game mechanics work. It is not a simulator so you are not punished if you take sudden turns or accelerate uncontrollably. In addition to this, you can choose from 3 different difficulties so it doesn’t matter if you are casual or not – you will find your suited difficulty in order to enjoy the game. Moreover, the special items (even though some of them are weird if you are talking about realism) are a great idea – for example you call an air strike for support while you “march” to the enemy cargo ship. I also like the fact that there are several ships you can play with and each of them is unlocked after you finish an episode. Because of this, it is possible to have a fair share of players that want to continue the game just for the ships.
There are a few things I don’t like about Warship Battle 3D World War II either. First of all the fact that in all my missions (or at least till the point I reached) I am all by myself is weird. I am a ship that destroys hundreds of enemy ships and troops without any problems at all – the game is a bit unrealistic from this point of view. Secondly I think that a multiplayer implementation where you can play with your friends against other groups or at least some co-op missions would have been a great addition for Warship Battle 3D. Lastly, a thing that bugs me is the possibility of buying ammo and different weapon upgrades during the missions – how on Earth you are able to do that in real life? I shop online for my guns and someone instant delivers them to the sea? Worthless option that brings nothing good to the game in my opinion.
Overall, I would most likely recommend Warship Battle 3D World War II. Not only because it has a funny name but because the history elements which are really interesting. The game can provide the player with a more than interesting experience for 2016.
Ratings
Artwork: Warship Battle 3D World War II gets a rating of 7 out of 10 for its artwork. The game approaches a war theme which is interesting as always. I appreciate the fact that the ships are extremely detailed and that they most likely reassemble real ships from the World War II but that’s not good enough. The environment is really dull and looks anything but modern and the water’s pattern is pretty bad and looks unreal. On a brighter note, the animations effects are somehow decent. There isn’t anything I like in particular about them and they could have been much more detailed but they are nice enough not to complain.
Music & SFX: I give the game a rating of 8 out of 10 at this section. The music is nice and it matches the theme. I really like the atmosphere it creates – everything will feel a little bit more dramatic than it should be but if you think about the period the action is happening, all is good. I would have expected more variety in the soundtrack but overall, the developers did a nice job in this department. The sound effects which are way too few in my opinion are not the best I’ve heard but not the worst either – some different weapon noises would have been cool.
Story/Originality: Warship Battle 3D World War II gets a rating of 8 out of 10 at this department. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t the first and I am sure not the last World War themed game I am going to play and review. However, Warship Battle is all about naval wars and I think that the developers did a pretty solid job by re-enacting all the details from the World War II. There are more than enough naval/ships/boats games on the market and probably some of them are better than Warship Battle 3D. Regardless of this, I believe that the solid share of war history is what the game needed to have to be considered authentic.
General Gameplay: I give the game a rating of 9 out of 10 for its gameplay. Yeah, you read it correct, I am a true fan of Warship Battle 3D World War II’s gameplay. The tutorial is happening after you basically started the game but that’s no problem at all because your role in the game is pretty straight forward – destroy all the enemies before they end your life. You can choose from 3 different difficulties, there are a lot of settings and options so you can feel comfortable when controlling your ship and you press a button to shoot. Nothing less, nothing more. For the time I’ve played the game I haven’t encountered any bugs, crashes or freezes (even though it runs some ads from time to time).
Addictiveness: Warship Battle 3D World War II gets a rating of 8 out of 10 for its addictiveness. The game has one of the most interesting campaigns I’ve ever played but that’s entirely because it is a World War II game. If you are not a fan of history or at least of war ships you will have a hard time playing and enjoying all the game. The missions are repetitive, the campaign episodes are fairly long (and they are continuously adding more content) and there are no weird but funny casual modes that you can play when you are not in the mood for a war. However, the game has a daily reward system and a ship customization option which are more than welcomed to the genre.
Overall, Warship Battle 3D World War II gets a rating of 8 out of 10. The game is not the best out there but it has naval ships that are easily controlled, a part of human history and ship customization – what can you ask more?
