When Airplane Mode is turned on, your mobile device will be disconnected from any incoming internet connection, such as 3G/4G and Wi-Fi. You will notice that there are no more advertisements, due to the fact that the game needs an internet connection, in order to push advertisements onto your mobile device.

If you like to play games by yourself, you can play in the single player game mode of Warlings. However, if you rather play against a friend, family member or a random Warlings player around the world, you can choose one of the multiplayer game modes.
I really enjoyed playing Warlings, especially because it is basically a copy of the old Worms games; however, Warlings does have several negative aspects. For starters, the developers of Warlings have implemented a lot of advertisements into the game. The advertisements come in the form of pop-ups, which show up randomly. Of course, it is understandable when developers of free-to-play games implement advertisements into their games, due to the fact that they need to earn some money for the time and effort they have put into their games.
The problem is that a lot of developers do not know a single thing about ad-placement and really go overboard in 2016 when it comes to implementing advertisements. They think they can quickly earn some money by just littering their games and apps with annoying and obstructive advertisements. It also feels like the developers of Warlings are trying to trick people into accidently tapping on the advertisements, just so that they can earn more money. Unfortunately, this makes Warlings feel like a cheap cash grab.
The second negative aspect about Warlings is that the developers expect you to play for a very long time, just so you are able to purchase different weapons in the in-game store. By successfully completing levels in Warlings, you earn gold medals, which you can use to purchase different weapons in the in-game store. However, the weapons in the in-game store can be pretty expensive. You are not able to purchase gold medals with real money, but the developers did implement Tapjoy into the game.
With Tapjoy, you usually have to download and test out other games and apps, after which you should be awarded with a certain amount of gold medals. The problem with Tapjoy is that the system doesn’t always work, which means that you could be wasting your time. I do not find any of the available offer-systems to be reliable. They are annoying, do not always reward you and getting in touch with their customer services is a hassle. Instead of systems such as Tapjoy, the developers of Warlings could implement different systems, such as daily rewards.
Warlings Ratings
Artwork: I give Warlings an 8/10 for its artwork. The graphics in Warlings are very nice, especially considering that it is a free-to-play mobile game. I really like the fact that there are different maps available in the game, which shows you that the developers did spend some time on designing all the different aspects of the game. I also like the fact that there are several different weapons in Warlings, which all have different animations and special effects. Having so many animations and special effects makes the gameplay more entertaining, in my opinion. The developers did a good job at making the graphics and animations work well together.
Music & SFX: I give Warlings a 7/10 for its music and SFX. There are two different soundtracks and several different sound effects in Warlings, which are of decent quality. I like the fact that the soundtrack changes whenever you start a battle. This allows you to transition between the main menu and actually playing the game. The sound effects range from regular shotgun fire to enormous explosions. I really like the fact that both the soundtracks and sound effects are easy on the ears, which means that they will not bore or bother you while you are playing Warlings.
Story & Originality: I give Warlings an 8/10 for its story and originality. I have already stated that Warlings is basically a copy of some of the Worms games, which were available on PC and other platforms. Normally, I would be bothered when developers copy game concepts, game mechanics and features from each other, but with Warlings, this is not the case. Perhaps I am being biased because I used to enjoy playing the old Worms games, but that still doesn’t change the fact that the developers of Warlings have done a good job at making the game entertaining. There is no story behind Warlings, but an arcade/strategy game likes this doesn’t need one.
General Gameplay: I give Warlings an 8/10 for general gameplay. The gameplay in Warlings starts with a small tutorial, which consists of images that show you how to perform a certain action or how to properly play the game. I really like the fact that you get the option to skip the tutorial, which allows you to start playing Warlings immediately. After playing Warlings for a certain while, the gameplay becomes pretty straightforward, but still very entertaining to play due to the fact that there are four different game modes in the game. The controls in Warlings are smooth and responsive and the user interface fits the overall theme of the game, making it easy to navigate through the main menu and to select the different options available.
Addictiveness: I give Warlings a 7/10 for addictiveness. Normally, I would imagine myself getting very addicted to Warlings, especially because I used to enjoy playing this type of games; however, I did not spend a lot of time playing the game. This has something to do with the fact that the developers of Warlings have implemented a lot of advertisements in the game, which are very annoying and obstructive. The advertisements come in the form of pop-ups, and really slow down the pace of the game. The worst part about the advertisements in Warlings is that if you accidently do tap on one of them, your game will minimalize itself and your browser will start up. I think that this a shame and that it makes the game feel like a cheap cash grab.
All things considered, I give Warlings an 8/10.
