Developed by Inventain Mobile UAB, Swipe Me Out is a simple unlimited scoring reflex based action game where you guide your character through an underground dungeon littered with deadly lava, hidden traps, and other dangers.
Swipe Me Out is available only for iOS devices, it is free to download in 2016 but it does offer purchases of $1.99 to disable advertisements or 3.99 to unlock all of the in game characters as well as disabling advertisements. Advertisements aren’t too obstructive in Swipe Me Out but they can get quite annoying after a while and $1.99 is a fairly reasonable price to pay for unlimited uninterrupted gameplay.
At exactly 101 MB this is a fairly small app it’s rated as appropriate for users aged 9 and older due to mild horror and fear themes. Swipe Me Up requires iOS 6.0 it works on iPhone, iPad, and iTouch. Users on the iTunes App Store seemed fairly satisfied with their download of Swipe Me Up, rating it a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Swipe Me Up was also featured in the “Best New Games” section by Apple in the App Store front page.

The controls for Swipe Me Up are fairly straightforward, you can swipe up and down. Left and right, yep, that’s it. However, don’t let the simplicity of the controls confuse you into thinking that this is an easy game, it is no walk in the park by all means. First, let’s start with your number one enemy: the lava.
The lava is this giant wall of lava that’s always coming for you from a seemingly random direction in each level. Running from the lava doesn’t make you any safer as it only gets faster and faster as you go higher in levels. The truth is the lava will eventually get you no matter what since this isn’t necessarily a game with an objective besides seeing how far you can go.
In that way the game is a lot like life itself, it must end at some point but everyone wants to do as much as possible before they’re gone, or in the case of Swipe Me Up, before the lava gets them. What lava is doing creeping through the corridors of a dungeon, we don’t know, however what we do know is how to avoid that lava. As soon as you enter a new level quickly identify where the lava is coming from and what other threats are facing you, then proceed to act.
Besides lava you also have to watch out for other deadly threats, each threat has its own strategy to help you succeed. You can pass each level by going through a glowing doorway, sometimes it’s directly in front of you and other times you will have to avoid some threats. The first one you will notice is the false door, also known as the lava door, these look like the illuminated doorway but of course behind their wooden exterior there is lava, you can tell by the lava seeping beneath the door.
Next are electric walls, these are exactly as terrifying as they sound, they are walls of electricity that occasionally go down to allow you to pass. These are pretty easy just make sure you don’t wait too long or else its over for you. Next are the moving platforms which is a platform that slides back and forth over a small stream, wait until the platform is right in the middle than swipe.
Spikes are your next nightmare, these are also pretty easy just wait until they go down, if you can do it as soon as you enter the room. Finally there are fireballs, these are the most difficult obstacle since they don’t follow an identical pattern every time. Fireballs shoot out of the wall in one, two, or three ball increments. You have to recognize the pattern and then proceed. Swipe Me Out is all about timing and not necessarily speed, although speed is a huge part of the game, merely swiping really fast isn’t going to get you to the highest level it will only lead to silly mistakes.
The next dimension of Swipe Me Up is the in game currency, “coins”. You earn coins by getting to higher levels and you can even collect coins in game during certain levels. You use these to unlock characters, up to 40 of them, form the in app store or you can use the gumball machine to gamble a few coins and win a random prize. I haven’t had any issues with the pinball machine and it is relatively cheap since coins are easy to come by.
Swipe Me Out is a really fun game, definitely very addicting given its fast paced style, the cute characters and their entertaining animations, and the endless scoring outline of the game. The developers did a great job of squeezing a lot out of a seemingly simple game by including currency and many different customization options regarding the character you choose and the gumball gambling.
This was certainly a very creative effort by the developers, I’ve played games which were theoretically similar but none that had the same exact mechanics of Swipe Me Out. It’s refreshing to see 2016 developers that think outside of the box.
The graphics were pretty average, I did like the cute characters though and the colors were vivid and attention grabbing. The controls were also responsive, which is absolutely necessary for a reflex based game. Music was fun and not repetitive it seems like the developers really paid attention to the minute details when putting Swipe Me Out together.
Also the fact that the in app purchases are so reasonably priced and even the advertisements weren’t too obtrusive was quite a breath of fresh air. In an age where it seems like mobile game developers are trying to squeeze every last penny out of their user base, it’s great to see one game where it feels like I’m not being shaken down just for downloading a free game.
If there’s one thing I had qualms with it was the lack of customization options and collectible in game items. I appreciate the lengths it must’ve taken to get all of those features out of this simple game but really more could have been done.
