• Your equipment needs to be periodically enhanced. Use ‘material’ from unused equipment and gear to do so.

• Most of the daily missions will be completed naturally – enhance an item, complete 2 quests and stuff like that. Make sure you keep an eye on those that remain uncompleted.

• Get friends fast. You will need them in co-op missions and quests and the game will be more entertaining this way.

RPGs on mobile devices are always intriguing for me. Mostly because I am curious about how much of a Role Play game can be compressed into a mobile version (because of the space and hardware restrictions). The good thing is that Zenonia S Rifts has covered all the basics and more. The bad thing is that some of the decisions taken by the developers are weird but that might be a strategy – you never know.

As you have probably guessed, the best feature I encountered in Zenonia S Rifts in Time is the character progression. You choose from 5 different classes each coming with its own skillsets, there are more than 300 different items you can equip and you can enchant the majority of them even further. From this point of view, Zenonia S: Rifts in Time is one of the few ‘true’ RPGs on the mobile games market.

In addition to this, if you are not sure whether your character’s class fit your playstyle, you can start over with another class and alternatively play until you decide. Also, I appreciate a lot the fact that you can customize your skill order and the way they are activated from the User Interface. It may not seem such a big deal but this small things are making a great experience.

One other thing I find great about Zenonia S: Rifts in Time is that there a lot of quests waiting to be completed (you even have weekly missions). Also, the controls are pretty awesome – you now can move in more than 4 directions thanks to the modified virtual analog button.

In the following lines I will explain briefly what I don’t like or what I would change if given the opportunity in Zenonia S: Rifts in Time. First of all, I must say that I am disappointed about the decision of adding “stamina” to the game. A Role Play title shouldn’t be conditioned by a timer and the player should be able to stay in the game for as long as he wants.

Also, this is the first Zenonia title which such an implementation and that’s a really bad thing. Secondly, I believe that the early quests need a bit of rethinking. I like the idea of having various quests but in Zenonia S Rifts in Time that can become a bit weird – going in the woods and fight evil ducks in order to get a ladder to help a falling girl is odd and it doesn’t add up.

Last but not least, I think that the game needs better marketing methods. People tend to hesitate to download the app because they never heard of it before. The developers should create some ads or at least promote the game more aggressively. Don’t get me wrong, I love that there is no spam coming from Zenonia S: Rifts in Time but insisting a little can’t hurt.

Overall, Zenonia S: Rifts in Time is a game I would most likely recommend. Like it or not, this 2016 RPG is really solid and the users should at least try it. I enjoyed playing the game and I will definitely still going to play it for at least awhile.

Artwork: Zenonia S: Rifts in Time gets a rating of 9 out of 10 for its artwork. I must say right from the beginning that a game is more than graphics. Having modern graphics is a plus but it doesn’t mean everything. The graphic engine used in this game is old but taken as a whole Zenonia S: Rifts in time looks decent enough. The character design is interesting, the dungeons and mission zones are ‘doing their job’ properly. The environment is a bit static for my taste but I can’t complain about it too much. The animations effects aren’t extraordinary but they still look modern enough despite the graphic limitations and that’s awesome.

Music & SFX: I give Zenonia S: Rifts in Time a rating of 9 out of 10 at this section. The soundtrack t matches with the game’s theme and creates a nice atmosphere. Personally, I prefer to hear some catchy songs in a game but this fantasy-oriented soundtrack works just fine. The sound effects in Zenonia S Rifts are surprisingly good. Not only that there are a lot of them but they also seem to be specially created for the game (it may just an impression after all). This SFX department looks really promising.

Story/Originality: The game gets a rating of 8 out of 10 at this section. As I mentioned before, Zenonia is a well-known title so any game with this word in its title will be regarded as an authentic one. The story is not that great because you can clearly see the cliché – long-forgotten enemies who are using ancient powers to make chaos in several realms and a hero who rises from nowhere will stop him. However, the dialogues are pretty interesting and will keep you entertained. There are also enough new never seen elements in the game so everything is in order.

General Gameplay: Zenonia S Rifts in Time gets a rating of 8 out of 10 for its gameplay. If you are not used with RPGs, you will undoubtedly be confused by the amount of the options you have. There is a lot of stuff to do and it can be overwhelming. The good thing is that this game has a proper tutorial and different elements here and there that will help you get used with (auto-combat or a continuous flow of tips for example). The bad thing is that, currently, there are some crashing issues on multiple devices. Besides the pretty common crashing issue, for the time I’ve played I haven’t encountered any major bugs or freezes.

Addictiveness: I give Zenonia S Rifts in Time a rating of 9 out of 10 for its addictiveness. RPGs are meant to be addictive and this game is no exception. There is a great multiplayer implementation, there are a lot of different characters which can be customized in a lot of unique ways. There are different challenges, different game modes and different approaches of the same objective. What more could you wish for? If the developers will keep their promise and start doing themed events and different limited contests the game will have a 10/10 at this section.

Overall, Zenonia S: Rifts in Time gets a rating of 8.6 out of 10. The game is good but it could have been better. There are only a few problems with it but solving this specific problems can make the difference between one of the best RPGs on the market and just another Role Play title.
