If you haven’t played the game or heard anything about Ski Safari 2 prior reading this review I must warn you – there will be surprises because the title is more accurate than you would believe. You will be skiing. With animals. Or on animals. Or to find other animals. PETA shouldn’t be worried though – the creatures from this game aren’t harmed in any way…unless the big avalanche or lava eruption catch up with you character.  

Probably the best feature Ski Safari 2 has is the peculiar atmosphere. Everything is chaotic and you will not understand much right from the beginning but that is the beauty. The relationship of your character with the animals is nothing like Doctor Dolittle taught us.  They seem to do anything in their power to save your…soul.

Another great thing about the game is that there are a lot of themed events and that the developers are adding additional stuff on a monthly basis. By doing so, you can be sure that you will not get bored quickly. I like that there is a lot of interesting stuff in the shop and that you can get all of it. You can bypass the grinding of coins by paying real money but that is not a real or unfair advantage. It is worth mentioning that there aren’t any annoying ads in Ski Safari 2 and that you will encounter them only if you want to continue a run and watch a video as a revival token. As a personally favorite, I must give a shout-out to your guide, a yeti, who has a lot of funny interactions with you.

Here comes the part where I will say what I don’t like about Ski Safari 2 or what I would change if given the opportunity. First of all, I believe that the game is too complex for a casual title. All those added elements are there to combat the boredom but at the same time it will become harder and harder for the casual player to enjoy it.

Personally, I don’t think that’s a problem and I quite enjoy them but for an inexperienced casual player, this stuff might scare him. Secondly, I believe that some sort of character progression should be implemented. Nothing too complicated because we just talked about the complexity from Ski Safari 2 but it can’t produce any harm whatsoever. Last but not least, I am a bit disappointed about the game’s difficulty.

You have 2 modes: piece of cake or impossible to the human kind. Being similar to an endless run title, I expected something different such as a gradually increased difficulty or something like that. I am sure that solving this issue will help with the game’s popularity.

Overall, Ski Safari 2 is a game I would most likely recommend.  It is an odd title and everything is chaotic but that is part of the gameplay. Go ahead and download it in 2016, the chance of liking it is really high because it’s something you are not used to play.

Artwork: Ski Safari 2 gets a rating of 8 out of 10 for its artwork. The theme is meant to be colorful so everything is reflecting that so there’s no surprise. The character design is okay but you can clearly see that the developers didn’t really focus on this aspect. You have three different regions, each coming with an interesting environment. The level design is also something above average because there are all kinds of “do-able shenanigans” I never imagined you can using a snowboard. The animations effects are above average as well but I believe that a little more work here could have been done. All in all, the artwork of the game is not extraordinary but it’s good enough.

Music & SFX: I give the game a rating of 8 out of 10 at this section. I was surprised by the quality of the soundtrack in Ski Safari 2. The songs are catchy, they don’t annoy the player with the repetition (even though this aspect exists) and they create the perfect atmosphere for a game where you must survive a deadly avalanche by skiing on or with animals. The sound effects are not that good and they can be easily shadowed by the music quality so it is fair to say that the SFX of the game needs some rework.

Story/Originality:  The game gets a rating of 8 out of 10 at this segment. There is no story whatsoever but Ski Safari 2 is an arcade title after all so there is no surprise. You can make up your own story and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. In this game you will encounter a lot of similar elements if you compare it with endless running arcades such as Temple Run or Despicable Me. However, Ski Safari 2 shines in terms of originality – the mind who created this scenario of animals and skiing and the nature which rises against you must be really special.

General Gameplay: I give Ski Safari 2 a rating of 7 out of 10 for its gameplay. The tutorial is pretty straight forward and you learn the basics from there. As I mentioned before, the problem lies in the game’s complexity. If you take it as a whole, you will realize that it is a bit too hard for an arcade title and that, unfortunately, should not be the case. Other than this pretty big issue, everything runs smoothly. For the time I’ve played, I haven’t encountered any major bugs, freezes or crashes.

Addictiveness: Ski Safari 2 gets a rating of 8 out of 10 for its addictiveness. Here comes the part where I congratulate the developers’ decisions regarding this game after I complained about them above. The game is an endless run at its core but because of all the additional elements such as achievements, playing against your friends, different stages, special challenges and many more, it is almost not an endless run title anymore. You have a lot of equipment to choose from, you have themed events (a Halloween one just passed) and so on. Because I can’t complain much, one thing is clear: Ski Safari 2 is pretty addictive.

Overall, Ski Safari 2 gets a rating of 7.8 out of 10. With a few changes here and there, the game can become really popular amongst users of all ages. The gameplay is not that much of an impediment once you get used with all the mechanics.
