1. Epic Zen Garden

Get a closer look at this game in the video above.

Featured earlier this year at WWDC, Epic Zen Garden is a casual, navel-gazing kind of game. Despite its slow pace and simple gameplay, it really does showcase some amazing graphics, and those graphics will look even better on the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus. This is a very “zen” game, as you would expect from the title, so don’t expect a lot of action here. That being said, this is one of the most beautiful games on the App Store, and it’s well worth checking out.

Pros:

  • Stunning graphics
  • Mellow, lovely soundtrack
  • Fun environment to explore
  • Great way to relax or meditate during a stressful day
  • Kid-friendly

  • Cons:

  • Limited “replay” value
  • Won’t appeal to fans of fast and frenetic gameplay
  • Some elements respond slowly
  • Relatively small environment
  • Could use more things to interact with

    2. Galcon 2

Check out another game in the franchise, Galcon Legends, in the video above.

The Galcon franchise is a galactic action-strategy game, and Galcon 2 is (hopefully) on track to be released later this year. Galcon 2 will make use of the iPhone 6 Plus in some unique ways. TouchArcade has the rundown on how Galcon 2 plans to use the extra real estate of the iPhone 6 Plus to do some cool things with the game:

“Galcon 2 has been in development for two years now, and is nearing release…Players will essentially have the ability to toggle the iPad interface on and off in the game’s menu…So, you’ll be able to get a 48 planet layout instead of the iPhone default layout of 23 planets on the iPhone 6 Plus…

The chat is way better, since it can just get shifted to its own frame on the right which will let players see way more messages than they can in landscape on the iPhone 5 family. Additionally, allowing players to optionally use the iPad interface for games seems like a clever solution that doesn’t take a total top down redesign of the interface to do.”

Galcon 2 doesn’t have a release date, other than “coming soon.” In the meantime, you can check out the original Galcon game right here.

    Galcon 2 is coming soon.

    3. Vainglory

Check out a trailer for this game in the video above.

Vainglory might be the most hotly anticipated game for iOS 8 and the iPhone 6, thanks in part to the appearance of Stephan Sherman, the co-founder and CCO of Super Evil Megacorp, during the iPhone 6 event. Super Evil Megacorp is the developer of Vainglory, a game that is expected to make the best possible use of the iPhone 6’s new capabilities and refined touch controls. There’s just one problem: you can’t get it yet. The game will be out later this year, so keep your eyes peeled and grab it when it finally goes live.
