Meet Swampy, the toothy crocodillic hero of
Where's My Water? All he wants to do is scrub up and win over the girl of his dreams, but getting fresh water in the sewers of the city is no easy task.
So it's up to you, in this Disney-published game from
Jelly Car creator Walaber, to solve a bunch of puzzles and get a fresh reservoir of suds to our goofy protagonist, all the while avoiding toxic purple goop, nasty green acid, and other-such hazards.
If you're man enough to brave the sewers of
Where's My Water?, you'll find a smart puzzler with fresh ideas and innovative mechanics. But you'll also come across tricky brain-teasers, hidden collectibles, unlockable bonus stages, and secret achievements.
Luckily, the staff of
Pocket Gamer and their bursting brain-boxes are here to help with this exhaustive guide to
Where's My Water?The Basics
To beat each stage, you'll need to deliver water - usually stored in a reservoir or shot out of a pipe - to the drainage pipe above Swampy, by tunneling through dirt and solving puzzles. Get about 20 droplets in his hose and Swampy will have enough suds to shower, thus ending the level.
1. Here's your water - the blue stuff. I'm sure you've seen this once or twice before. It's supposed to resemble real-world aqua, sploshing and splashing about with realistic physics. It's your job to deliver it to Swampy's hose.
2. Dirt. Good old-fashioned dirt. This brown stuff can be dug through with your finger, creating tunnels and dips for water to travel through. Remember that water will always obey gravity, so don't expect it to travel uphill without a little force.
3. Ducks! These are optional items (three to a stage) that give you more points and eventually unlock more levels. To grab them, fill them up with a little water. You can either get them as you go or simply beat the level and come back later to pick them up.
4. Here's your main water pipe, and the exit point for the level's water. You need to get 20 drops in the pipe to end the stage, but get more than that in and you'll earn bonus "overflow" points in that level.
5. Swampy. The hero of the piece and a budding boyfriend to a certain female croc. Give him a little tap to see his animations, and perhaps earn a secret achievement.
There are three types of liquid in
Where's My Water? Getting your basic blue stuff to the drain is the only way to beat the level, so carefully guide it to the exit and don't waste any if you can help it.
The purple toxic goo is dangerous. It will destroy ducks on impact, instantly end the level if even a drop gets into Swampy's pipe, and completely takes over any water it touches, instantly polluting it. That's bad, though it can be handy way to get more purple goo if you need it.
Its advantages are a little more subtle. It can erode the nasty green moss that otherwise impedes your progress. Also, add it to the next liquid and it will cause a small explosion.
The green goop is even more toxic than purple. It literally chews through brown dirt, eats up water, destroys ducks, and ends the level if any get into Swampy's pipe. On the plus side, it turns green moss into hardy purple dirt and makes explosions when added to purple liquid.
Classic dirt. This brown stuff is easy to get rid of, either by scrubbing away at it with your finger or unleashing some green goop on the area. Purple stone is a little harder to remove, and will only be affected by explosions.
This mossy green stuff hangs out on dirt and is a right nuisance. Add water and the moss quickly grows, which can cover over important tunnels or pipes. On the upside, you can remove it with purple goo or turn it into hardy purple stone with green goop.
Pipes can be used to produce or transport water. The one on the left is a classic redirect pipe, sending any type of liquid from the open cup end to the small hose end.
The pipes with valves on them will shoot out water for as long as you hold your finger on the valve. Watch the colour of the knob: blue for water, green for green goop, and purple for toxic purple oil.
There are a few mechanisms in this puzzler, like conveyor belts and moving arms. You'll need to find a colour-co-ordinated button, and they're activated in different ways.
The one with the funnel (left) just needs a drop or two of liquid to start. The four-buttoned starter (middle) is pressure-sensitive and will only keep the mechanism running as long as liquid is pushing against one of the buttons.
The white cogs are not triggered remotely, and are activated by dragging them with your finger. Remember, multi-touch lets you drag two or more platforms at once.
Mines are triggered by water, and cause lots of damage to all brown and purple dirt in the vicinity. They can also cause chain reactions if they're close enough together, so avoid them unless you need to borrow their destructive power.
There are three ducks on every level that serve as bonus items for the most hardy players. Send water at them to grab them for your own.
Some levels have hidden collectibles in the dirt. Simply scrub away at the the area to reveal the object and then complete the level to keep the object in your collection. They also hang out in triplets, and if you get all three you'll unlock a bonus stage.
In "Change is Good", the first major update to
Where's My Water, Swampy gets to try out these new pipes that alter his water. No matter what liquid passes into the pipe, the goop that's pictured on the side - be it water, purple goo or green sludge - will spit out of the other end.
The same deal goes for the second pipe pictured, but the little switch on the side lets you choose exactly what consistency of liquid will appear out of the other end. Just tap the switch to toggle between two or three types of goop.
In "Boiling Point", the second update to this hydro-centric puzzler, Swampy will have to turn his suds into steam, and back again, if he wants to get through these 20 stages.
Pouring water, purple poison or green goop onto hot coals will turn them all into a vat of steam. This rises to the top of the level, and while it passes through green moss it will still get stuck on purple and brown dirt.
If the steam hits some jagged ice, it will turn back into water - and always water, no matter what liquid hit the coals in the first place. The water always drops straight down, so plan your dirt-digging accordingly.
You'll also get to play with a new change pipe. When you see the steam icon on a pipe, no matter what gets pumped into the hose, it will come out as a rising gas.
In "Stretched Thin", the last
Where's My Water update of 2011, we're introduced to these red balloons which can be filled up with liquid, bounced around the environment, and popped.
The icon on the balloon dictates what's inside: no icon for water, a skull for purple poison, and a cloud for steam. Balloons filled with steam will float up instead of fall down.
The balloon will pop and spill its innards if it hits a thorny vine, touches ice or fire, gets hit by corrosive green liquid, is squished between bits of machinery, or is tapped.
Balloons can also be attached to the end of a pipe and filled up with liquid. It will detach itself when full, or you can tap the balloon to remove it prematurely.
Where's My Water (Free) was the 25 billionth app to be downloaded on iOS. To celebrate, Disney put out "Caution to the Wind", an update with 20 new levels to complete.
First up, meet the fan (left). This tool spits out a high-pressure stream of air that can push water, steam, liquid, and balloons around.
They are colour-coded (red, blue, or green), and can be connected to a funnel or pressure-sensitive button of the same colour. Activate or deactivate the button to turn fans of the same colour scheme on or off.
The update also adds these suction pipes (right), which suck in any nearby liquids and spit them out of the pipe at the other end. Again, they're colour-coded and can be connected to buttons, so you can turn them on and off.
In the free update "Rising Tide", redirection valves change the route your suds will take when they pass through a pipe. This blue button shows which direction the liquid will take, with the white line joining up the two connecting pipes. You can change the direction between two states by tapping the blue button.
If you redirect a liquid towards one of these pipe plugs, it will stop liquid from entering the connected spout. Don't worry - no matter how much the stopper rattles, it won't blow off.
In the update "Out to Dry", mud is the sticky new substance for Swampy to deal with. This stuff is like cement: leave it to dry for few seconds, and it'll harden up into normal brown dirt.
If mud is being hit with water (or steam), it'll stay dark and soggy; get bigger; and refuse to go dry. You'll need to redirect your suds to give it a chance to harden. One way to use mud is to drop it on algae, and then let it set to make a bridge for water to pass over.
The gloopy caramel-like brown stuff turns any water it comes into contact with into mud. It disappears when touched, though, so use it wisely.
The update adds two new types of pipe. A grey tap with a picture of a mud splat on the box shoots out wet mud. A brown tap shoots out dry dirt that instantly compacts, making towers and bridges of dirt.

Bonus LevelsIf you find three collectible items in a set you'll unlock a bonus level. You can find these secret stages in the "collection" screen, available from the main menu.
Unlike the rest of the stages in
Where's My Water, these bonus levels use the accelerometer in your iPhone or iPad to manipulate gravity and send water in any direction you please.
Bonus Level 1 - HourglassAn easy one to start off with. Break the dirt in the middle of the hourglass and then carefully position your iDevice so that the water trickles at each duck, one after the other.
Bonus Level 2 - Round and RoundMake a tunnel to the centre duck and then slosh the water around to hit the first two ducks. Then make another tunnel down to the bottom-most duck and drench him with suds to finish the stage.
Bonus Level 3 - The MazeLook at the picture above to figure out the right paths to take to collect the ducks and exit the maze. Have this information with you before starting to make sure you can do the bonus level in the strict time limit.
Bonus Level 4 - Golden RatioFirst move your device to desposit some water in the left-most trench, which shoots water out of the pipe. Get some of this on the duck, and then splash some on the button to make the red arm move.
Now dig the top duck out and splash water on him, before aiming at the hose entry point and splashing water on the final, bottom-left-hand-corner duck.
Bonus Level 5 - Tread CarefullyThis one's about very carefully moving your water about so you hit the ducks but don't trigger any landmines. Keep your water together to avoid any unfortunate splashes hitting a mine, and move slowly from duck to duck.
If you quickly flip your iDevice about 90 degrees in one go, the water can leap from space to space - a handy way to go from one wall to another.
Bonus Level 6 - Mouse earsA relatively easy one: simply use the green goop to remove all the moss from the outside of this Mickey-inspired stage. Once you're ready you'll need to unleash your water and guide it to each duck. But beware: the green goo will still exist, so keep it away from the ducks and the water.
Bonus Level 7 - Build and TiltThis level is controlled by three pipes at the bottom: one that moves the central water spout and two that spit out water and green goop.
Position the central water spout so it's pointing in the top-left corner, and then fire a medium amount of green.
Now guide this blob round the level - anticlockwise - by tilting your gadget so it eats all the moss and destroys itself. Finally, spit out water and move it in mid-air by tilting to pick up all the ducks.
Bonus Level 8 - BeehiveThis one's quite easy, but going against the clock makes it tough. You'll need to open the bottom two gates and then move the purple goo into the top-right box. Shut the gate to close it in. Now simply manoeuvre the water grom area to area, picking up ducks. Not too hard.
Bonus Level 9 - Onion PeelThis one's a little tricky, but follow these instructions and you'll be set. First up, twist your iPad so a small amount of water goes into the pipes, turns toxic, and shoots out as moss-munching poison. Use this to strip the top rock bare of green grime. If you have leftover purple poison, make a hole in the rock to the left and wash it off of the screen.
Now change the gauge so the pipe pumps water. Throw some water in there and use it to grab the top and middle ducks. Now change back to poison, make some purple goop and use it to eat away at the second layer of grime. Remove any leftover poison through the hole you made on the left.
Finally, use your last bit of water (make sure the gauge is set to fresh water) to collect the third and final duck. Done!
Bonus Level 10 - Never Let You GoThroughout this entire level you'll need to keep your thumb firmly on the bottom-left water pump, to keep the button depressed, the door shut and the toxic purple goop safely stashed away. Don't let your finger move or its game over.
Now make a pathway for the green goop from its little pit, underneath the middle duck and back up to the water pipe. Carefully rotate your device so the goo follows your path and doesn't eat through too much dirt.
Now all you need to do is take your fresh water and squirt it out to collect all three ducks. As long as you don't lift your thumb you'll be golden.
Bonus Level 11 - Steam It UpThe only secret to this secret stage is that the steam always rises to the top of your iPhone or iPad. As such, twist your device so the steam rises up and goes to the desired location. In this case it's in the three pipes. You don't even need to dig any dirt.
Bonus Level 12 - Algae GatesRemember that steam can pass through the algae, but water can't. So you'll need to drip some toxic juice (by opening the trap with your finger) into the red and green buttons to lower the ice to just above and below the ducks.
Now put the poisonous liquid onto the hot coals, so it turns into steam. This will immediately turn back into water on the ice, and then catch the first duck. Simply turn the water back into steam again, and guide it into the left and right chambers - through the algae - to get the ducks.
You get a lot of time (1 minute and 45 seconds), so don't rush. You can also use the gate at the top to only let a little purple liquid out at a time, so you don't flood yourself with water, goo and steam.
Bonus Level 13 - Balloon MazeBreak out one balloon at a time, and then carefully tilt the balloons towards the duck. When they hit a duck, pop the balloon to shower it with water. Be careful to avoid the horns in the right-most tunnels, and use the smaller balloon to get in the tighter space.
Bonus Level 14 - Tilt with CautionTilt your device so that some of the poisonous balloons from top fall into the main chamber. Pop them to spill poisonous goop out, then turn on the right-most pump to fire green goop. The chemical reaction will make an explosion, and provide access points to the ducks.
Make thin drainage holes to get rid of the green and purple liquids, then drop some of the water balloons in. Guide them to the ducks by digging through dirt, then pop the balloon to drench the ducks! Voilà.
Bonus Level 15 - Spring CleaningTilt your iOS device forward to soak the first duck. Move the water all the way to the top to avoid the vacuum, and move it left to grab the second duck. Now, put all the water into the suction hose.
Let out a small amount of water at a time using the blue manually operated gate, and direct it towards the rightmost hose. Then, tilt so the stream fires left and hits the duck. Keep letting out water and repeating this process until you have the last quacker.
Bonus Level 16 - Air MazeFirst up, we need to get the levitating globule of water into the top-right pipe. Tilt your iOS device so the water rests on the central blue button, which will make the contraption move right. Move the water to the very top of the screen to best escape the fans, and tilt it towards the pipe.
Let in enough water to collect the duck, and drop at least one drip into the green button to start the next section.
Another batch of water will drop now. Tilt it through the maze and towards the two horizontal fans. The water will slosh back and forward, grabbing the duck. Now, move the water towards the final, vertical set of fans.
Pushing against the top fan won't work. Make exaggerated tilts of your device to move the water up and down, and it will eventually move closer and closer to the duck until it's collected.
Bonus Level 17 - DonutsFirst, dunk the bottom right duck with the off-centre bucket of water. Now turn your device 90 degrees clockwise, and drop the top-most bucket of water on the top duck.
Finally turn your device a full 180 degrees and drain the purple poison on the algae surrounding the last duck. Try and remove as much algae on that side as possible. Now open the rightmost "donut" of water so it falls straight down and dunks the duck.
Bonus Level 18 - Two Way StreamsTap all three redirector valves so the pipes will send water towards the ducks. Then, slowly move the puddle of water from pipe to pipe to drench each duck.
Bonus Level 19 - Full of MudTilt your device to the left and spray a bunch of mud so it clogs up the space at the bottom of the screen. Let it set into dirt, and then dig a pathway between the bottom-most puddle and the duck directly above it. Soak the duck to collect it.
When your device is titled back to normal, send the water on the right to the duck in the top-right-hand corner. Now, carve a pathway in the dirt so the pipe sends mud into the area at the top of the screen. Fill it up tight.
When the mud sets into dirt, create a pathway between the middle reservoir of water and the top-left duck. Guide the water there safely to grab the last duck and finish the stage.
Watch a video tutorial for this bonus level here.
Bonus Level 20 - Dirt DivertYou have to act quickly on this stage. Dig away at some of the dirt, and drop the mud into the bottom tunnel. Keep it steady by tilting your device, and when it sets into dirt, it should cover up the gap.
Now, you just need to fashion your new dirt pile into a ramp so the pipe shoots water into the main part of the level. Now, simply enough, tilt your device so the water hits each and every duck.

Secret LevelsPlanetariumTo find this tricky Solar System-inspired stage, click "Play" on the main menu and then tap the "Achievements" button. Drag the screen down with one finger (so the framed achievements go towards the bottom of the screen) until you see a doodle of the planet Saturn. Tap it with your other finger to play.
This is a tough level, so carefully transport the water from one planet to the other by scooping out a big reservoir in the lower planet, and then open the floodgates in the upper planet. Make sure to save some water for the ducks! Here's a video tutorial to beating this level.
Mi AmoreTo find this secret stage, click 'Play' on the main menu and then tap the 'Achievements' button. Drag the screen up with one finger (so the framed achievements go towards the top of the screen) until you see a doodle of a heart. Tap it with your other finger.
This level is pretty easy. Hold down on both brown taps so two dirt barriers appear. Fire both water taps to collect two ducks, and then make a big puddle of mud in between your barriers. Let it set, and then dig a hole from the bottom left to the duck.
Hold down on the bottom water tap to shoot water at the central duck. Once it's yours, dig an exit tunnel to fire the water at Swampy's pipe. Here's a video tutorial to beating this level.
AchievementsOnce you've beaten every level, found every duck, grabbed every object and completed every bonus stage, all you've got left is the achievements. These are shown in the game, and also appear on your Game Center leaderboards so you'll want to get the lot if you want to show off. Here's how.

Name: Tri-Duck Dash
Game Center Points: 50
Description: "Tri-Duck Level 5-17 with at least 430 Time Bonus Points"
Tips: You'll need to cheat. Make a path from the water that hugs closely to the purple rock in the middle, and then curls up and makes a small pocket near the pipe entrance. If you do it right, the water will gush around, flick up and catch in the pipe. But you also need to quickly make a second path that go through all three ducks, so half of the water also collects the rubber duckys.

Tips: You need to shoot a single droplet of goo from the purple and green pipes at the same time, so they explode right in the middle and cancel each other out. This should allow a perfect cascade of water to fall directly down. Force it into Swampy's pipe to pick-up the achievement.

Drag the screen down with one finger (so the framed achievements go towards the bottom of the screen) until you see a doodle of the planet Saturn. Tap it with your other finger to play.
Name: Quick Finish 2
Game Center Points: 10
Description: "You finished Level C1-5 with at least 500 Time Bonus points!"
Tips: Cheekily enough, this achievement requires the premium download pack Cranky's Story. If you've got the DLC, head to "Cranky's First Course" and choose level 5. You need to quickly drop the purple water closer to the algae, then direct the water into your pool to increase your purple stash. Then, drop the whole lot through the algae and into Cranky's pipe. Do it fast enough and you'll nab the achievement.
