The game starts with a nice tutorial, teaching you the basics of Blood & Glory: Legend. During your tutorial fights, you learn how to successfully attack your opponents and block attacks. You will also learn how to dodge the attacks of your opponents and successfully counter attack him and deal out massive damage to his health points. After the tutorial ends, you will be able to start playing the normal campaign, which consists of five normal opponents, after which it follows by a boss stage. Defeating the boss stage will unlock the next set of five opponents and boss stage respectably. After every fourth opponent, you will receive a free reward, either a weapon or an armor piece.
In Blood & Glory: Legend, your goal is to become the most powerful warrior / gladiator in the whole world. The game mechanics and gameplay in this game is pretty simple once you get good at reading your opponents moves and knowing what they are going to do next. You cannot move during your battles, but you are able to dodgy, attack, and block. Reading your opponents is very important because of the fact that you will need to successfully block and dodge their attacks, to be able to successfully counter-attack them and do some heavy damage. Blocking or dodging your opponents’ attacks will startle your opponent and will allow you to swing your weapon at him without a chance of it being blocked.
Without startling your opponents, your attacks will do little to no damage, and you will most likely fail at taking them down. Once you get used to the basic movements in Blood & Glory: Legend, the gameplay will get a whole lot easier. You will be able to take down opponents who are much stronger then you are, and have better equipment then you have.
You will earn silver coins and experience points by defeating opponents. You can use silver coins to upgrade your warriors gear and you will level up by gaining enough experience points. Leveling up will allow you to apply skill points to your warriors attack, block and health points attributes, making your warrior even stronger than before. Beware that you will not be able to reset your skill points once you have applied them, unless you purchase a Scroll of Balance, which costs Glu Credits. There are also several potions which you can use during your battles, which will give you more health and block points, but also allow you to use your special attack more often.

In Blood & Glory: Legend, it is important that you level up your warrior and apply skill points to his attributes. Before you upgrade your warrior, you should really consider before applying your skill points because this is not reversible. Once you have upgraded your warrior, you cannot take your skill points back unless you use the Scroll of Balance, which costs a lot of Glu Credits to get. You should always try to avoid upgrading only one of the three attributes too much, because your warriors’ stats will be really unbalanced, and you will be unable to defeat harder opponents. You should always have some potions on you incase things go south during a fight. Your opponent might get the better of you and you will need to use potions to have more health points or block points.
If you want to be able to purchase better gear faster, you can always buy the “Double Rewards” item in the in-game store. What this item does is, it permanently doubles the amount of rewards you get for taking down an opponent. Of course the Double Rewards item costs real money, but for $0,99 it might be worth it if you really like the game.
Before I played Blood & Glory: Legend, I did already play Blood & Glory, so I kind of knew what I could be expecting, yet it was still a nice and refreshing game to play. I like playing gladiator style games, battling other opponents and taking them down to earn big rewards. The game has beautiful graphics, such as its prequel, but next to having great graphics, the gameplay is also pretty nice. I like the fact that a game such as Blood & Glory: Legend stats with a tutorial so that casual mobile gamers won’t get confused on how the game works. In the tutorial, you learn the basic movements and attacks which you can perform during your battles. After I went through the tutorial, I felt like I knew what I was supposed to do, and how I am supposed to do it. The game and gameplay does become pretty straightforward after this, but still entertaining and fun to play nonetheless. I like the fact that the game is built in stages, so you get challenged to become better and move on to the next stage so you can take down even more powerful opponents. There are also a lot of equipment and weapons in Blood & Glory: Legend, which is a nice thing because you can customize your warrior however you feel like.
The first negative aspect about Blood & Glory: Legend is that there are advertisement pop-ups that show up occasionally. Now normally I wouldn’t mind when free-to-play games have ads implemented in them, but when the advertisement pop-ups show up exactly when you are about to tap the screen, it makes it feel like that the developers are trying to trick people into tapping on the ads. Once you tap on the ads, it will also close the game and open up a browser, which is very annoying and obstructive. The developers of Blood & Glory: Legend should really look into fixing this and make the ads less annoying and obstructive.
The second negative aspect is that a lot of equipment and upgrades are not purchasable with silver coins, but only with Glu Credits, which is the premium currency of Blood & Glory: Legend. Obtaining Glu Credits cost a lot of real money, or you could of course try to complete offers and receive your Glu Credits, but this often does not work out. Many offers do not pay out the amount of credits they promise, or not pay out at all because there is a problem with the system. The developers really should look into offering different ways for players to be able to get Glu Credits more easily or cheaper.
Artwork: I give Blood & Glory: Legend an 8/10 for its artwork. The graphics and animations in Blood & Glory: Legend are really nice, just like its prequel. The loading screen of the game has a nice little video which shows you different warriors and basically tells you what your goal in the game is. The warriors themselves are detailed nicely and I like the fact that every warrior looks different instead of making them all look the same. The gameplay itself feels very lively because of the environment and the movements of both yourself and your opponent. I really like the fact that every item in the game is very detailed and animated nicely, such as the different types of armor and weapons. The special effects during your special attacks are also very good and are a nice touch to the game.
Music & SFX: I give Blood & Glory: Legend an 8/10 for its music and SFX. There are different kinds of soundtracks in Blood & Glory: Legend, which is nice because having the same soundtrack in the main menu and during your gameplay would make the game very basic. The main menu soundtrack is nice and kind of sets the mood for the battles you will have ahead, and the soundtrack during your battles are fast paces and make your heart pump harder when you are facing a much more powerful opponent. There are a lot of small SFX in the main menu which is nice, because having silent button would make the players think twice about if they really tapped the button or not. There are also many sound effects during the battles, such as when you block and when you swing your weapon and hit your opponent. Both the soundtracks and sound effects are implemented nicely, and are easy on the ears.
Story & Originality: I give Blood & Glory: Legend a 6/10 for its story and originality. There is no real originality or story in Blood & Glory: Legend, because of the fact that there is already a prequel. The only reason that I cut the developers some slack is because of the fact that the gameplay is a little bit different compared to its prequel and it doesn’t take away that the prequel was already pretty original. I wished the developers added more originality to the game, or at least wrote a back story to make the players more excited.
General Gameplay: I give Blood & Glory: Legend an 8/10 for general gameplay. The game starts with a nice tutorial which teaches you the basics of the game and helps you get the hang of it. I think having a tutorial is very nice for a game like this because of the fact that beginner gamers might get confused on how to actually play the game properly. After you complete the tutorial, the gameplay becomes pretty straightforward, but still entertaining to play. The controls are responsive and the user interface is clear, which really helps with the general gameplay.
Addictiveness: I give Blood & Glory: Legend an 8/10 for addictiveness. I would really like to thank the developers for not implementing an energy system into their game, which would limit the players to several battles. These energy systems are simply annoying and make the game feel like a cheap cash grab. If you have enough patience, this is not a problem of course but having no energy system at all is the best for casual gamers who simply like to spend an hour or more taking down opponents.
All things considered, I give Blood & Glory: Legend an 8/10.
