Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) works best with analogue pads- it is, of course, the only option for those who play console versions. Nevertheless, I recommend that also PC users use such pads. Usually, in the case of such games, I recommend using a steering wheel, but in this case this would not make much sense in the case of this game. Firstly, the races here are strictly arcade. Secondly, unlike in the original Most Wanted, there is no cockpit camera, or even hood camera available. The only ones available here are bumper and hovering cameras. So there is no promise of the immersive experience that you could enrich with the wheel.

Unlike the previous installments of NFS, Most Wanted (2012) offers nearly all of the cars in the game right from the beginning. 31 (or 32 if you are using a mobile version of the game) cars are hidden in various spots throughout the map. Id order to drive them, it is enough to pilfer them at the right moment.

Switch points (or Jack Spots) are easily identifiable by a large brand logo hovering over the car - Cars list - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Switch points (or Jack Spots) are easily identifiable by a large brand logo hovering over the car. Finding new cars is also facilitated by the fact that cars have their headlights on (which is especially useful at night) and onboard car radios. The Fairhaven city consists of many levels so, cars can be parked not only at the streets, but also e.g. on top levels of multi-storey parking lots, etc. Even if you have problems locating a given car, in spite of the map given above, try and think three dimensionally and set your ears. The best idea is to turn off the in-game music, drive slowly, so as not to make a lot of noise, The car radios, on the cars to find, are audible from quite a distance so, if you are using high quality headphones, or a 5.1 sound system, music will be your guide.

The only car that cannot be found on the map, in the single player mode, is Ford Focus ST, which is only available in the multiplayer mode, over the internet - Cars list - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

The only car that cannot be found on the map, in the single player mode, is Ford Focus ST, which is only available in the multiplayer mode, over the internet. In order to unlock it, you need to win 5 online races using one of the available cars of that make. In the single player mode, this car can only be seen in billboards throughout the city.

Another unique car is the Hummer H1 Alpha - Cars list - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Another unique car is the Hummer H1 Alpha. Unfortunately, the only ones that will have the pleasure of driving this beast, is mobile version users. The only hope for future, is that it is included in a DLC for PC and console versions.

Apart from the generally available cars there are also 10 exotic cars to be acquired in the game - Cars list - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Apart from the generally available cars there are also 10 exotic cars to be acquired in the game. In order to win them, you need to go up the Most Wanted list by winning races with 10 other contestants to this title.

Winning the Most Wanted race is not everything that you need to do in order to win the opponent's car - Cars list - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Winning the Most Wanted race is not everything that you need to do in order to win the opponent's car. After you finish a race, another stage begins, which is the elimination round. As the name itself suggests, you need to eliminate your opponent by causing a crash, and thus, immobilizing his car. As soon as you achieve it, the car will appear in three Jack Spots around the city, and it will be available on the Easy Drive menu. If you lose your opponent during the elimination round, do not worry. You can always take the whole race over again. Apart from that, your opponent will be cruising around the city until you finally eliminate him. You can run into him even after 15 minutes while taking a joyride.

In Fairhaven, there are, in total, 156 billboards throughout the city - Billboards - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

In Fairhaven, there are, in total, 156 billboards throughout the city. For each one of the smashed billboards, you will be awarded Speed Points and, if you manage to get them all, you will be awarded a bonus. There are four variations of billboards, and they feature the logotypes of EA, DICE, BIOWARE and VISCERAL GAMES. All of the other ones just serve a decorative purpose and you cannot smash them. After you jump through a billboard, a record of the distance that you covered in the air, is taken and, you can try and beat your record later on. Those of the billboards that you already managed to smash, are displayed on the in-game map.

If any of your NSF:MW beat you to it and was the first to smash the a billboard, then the billboard will feature their avatar in your game. The best cars for beating records are those of low mass and high speed (like racing cars). Mods that improve max speed and car's aerodynamics are very useful for that purpose.

Smashed gates do not repair themselves and it is the only hint, beside the map. There are 135 security gates in total. Fortunately, they are located quite close to each other, in a few spots around the city so, you shouldn't experience any problems finding them if only you use the map included above.

Modifications available in Most Wanted are common for all of the cars, and they are the only forms of interference in the car - Mod list - Mods (car parts) - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Modifications available in Most Wanted are common for all of the cars, and they are the only forms of interference in the car. Mods are acquired as a result of winning an event associated with the individual car and, they are awarded for crossing the finish line in the first or the second place. Fortunately, in the case in which you come in as the first, the prize for the second place is awarded automatically, and you don't have to take the same race over again. The order in which individual parts are unlocked, is different for each car. Mods are available, at any time, from the EASYDRIVE menu. Thanks to the mods, you will be able to adjust your car for different conditions in events. Each mod is available in either standard or PRO version. Although all of the cars have the same set of modifications, you need to obtain the parts separately for each car. Therefore, if you want to obtain all of the parts for each one of the cars, you will have to beat 451 events in total. This number can be increased by the PRO version for each of the parts so, assuming that you would want to acquire all of them, you would have to spend tens, or even hundreds of hours racing.

As can be concluded from the above chart, PRO modifications are simply improved versions of standard modifications - How to unlock PRO modifications - Mods (car parts) - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

As can be concluded from the above chart, PRO modifications are simply improved versions of standard modifications. In most cases, they are devoid of their weak points, or reduce them considerably. You need to meet certain requirements to unlock them, which are contained in the description of a given part. Some PRO modifications can be unlocked unintentionally, without applying attention to it, or accidentally. Still, I have some tips on how to do it the quickest way possible. Some of the descriptions are pretty vague so, I'll try to explain things.

To save energy and time, you can combine achievements to get, and obtain them without the necessity to ram around the entire city. A good example here is unlocking the PRO versions of track tires and powershot nitrous. The only thing you need to do is find a sufficiently big parking lot, apply both modifications and start drifting in circles. Drifting itself, not only unlocks the Pro version for the tires, but also is one of the methods to replenish nitrous. Thanks to this, by drifting, you can also obtain the PRO version for powershot nitrous.

In a similar way, you can unlock the PRO version for off-road tires and for powershot nitrous. Why this combination? Every time you use powershot nitrous, it slightly increases the diameter of the drift circle, and every bump causes the car to lose contact with the ground. Burning nitrous, on the other hand, causes the diameter of the drift circle to decrease, which makes it a better choice for off-road drives.

When you avoid 2 crashes (which are described in the game as avoiding an accident) to obtain reinforced chassis, is, arguably, the most difficult thing to do and, additionally, the least comprehensible - How to unlock PRO modifications - Mods (car parts) - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

When you avoid 2 crashes (which are described in the game as avoiding an accident) to obtain reinforced chassis, is, arguably, the most difficult thing to do and, additionally, the least comprehensible. It would seem that avoiding crashes consists in e.g. swerving on order to avoid a head-on collision with an object or a car, is enough. It, unfortunately, is not. This kind of maneuver is interpreted by the game, merely, as "collision avoidance". The only situation in which the game detects avoiding a crash, is when you pass by an opponent's car, or a police car that crashed during the race, by a thread. In order to increase your chances to succeed, you need to enter a race against computer, controlled opponents, ant stick behind them closely, and keep your fingers crossed in hope that any of them crashes against an object . Then, pass right by the car on order to succeed. As you can see, you need to rely mostly on your good luck at this task. The easiest way to pull it off, is when the police join in. This increases chances for a cars, especially in the vicinity of road blocks.

For those of you, who are not well versed in the topic, the term

For those of you, who are not well versed in the topic, the term "slipstreaming" may also be incomprehensible. Fortunately, in this case, the point is only to follow other cars very closely. This cannot be just any car. To complete this task, you need to tail a computer opponent, or a police car.

The remaining tasks, like going the wrong way or spending 60s airborne, do not need explanation, I think. Progress for each task is included in the description of a modification.

Events in Need for Speed: Most wanted (2012) comprise in quick races, ambushes, speedruns and pursuits - Track races - Event types - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Events in Need for Speed: Most wanted (2012) comprise in quick races, ambushes, speedruns and pursuits. The first four of them are events of varying difficulty that come with individual cars. Winning, in the 1 or the 2 place, results in a car modification, mentioned in the event description, being unlocked. If you complete a given event with the best score, both of the car modifications (for the 1 and for the 2 place) will become available to you. This cuts out the time you would need to win the part awarded for the 2nd place. Pursuit is a separate event that starts after you provoke the police during a free ride. For completing each of the events, you will be awarded Speed Points, in the quantities determined by a given event and dependent on your score. During each event, there is an additional hindrance in the form of the police .What is even more, after the event ends, you will be still wanted by the police until you shake them off, or are caught.

Track races are standard circuits on an enclosed arena - Track races - Event types - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Track races are standard circuits on an enclosed arena. The route displays on your GPS and, to make things additionally easier, there are checkpoints. Even though the route for the race is predefined, it is possible to take shortcuts, wherever possible. The spots in which it would be the easiest to leave the track (like crossroads where you have to make a turn by 90 degrees) are blocked off with a green-colored barrier for the duration of the race, which additionally points you to the right direction.

A quick race is a sprint that is well known from the previous installment of Most Wanted - Quick race - Event types - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

A quick race is a sprint that is well known from the previous installment of Most Wanted. The idea here is to cover the route from point A to point B. There are no laps here so, there is also no opportunity to improve your score if you come in as the last.. Of course, the route is available from your GPS and there are Checkpoints on the way. There are no barriers in this case so, you can make a free use of shortcuts and alternative routes.

Ambush is an event that consists in avoiding police pursuit in a given time - Ambush - Event types - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Ambush is an event that consists in avoiding police pursuit in a given time. Your target time for the first, second and third place is displayed before the event actually starts and during the event, in the upper-left corner of the screen. Your current time is displayed in the form of a "flag" on the left side of your car. The color of the stripe next to your car (gold, silver, brown or red) signifies your position for a given moment. If the stripe turns red, this means you may restart the event because you failed to get a podium-awarding time.

Speedrun is a difficult event that requires of you the ability to control your car at high speeds - Speedrun - Event types - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Speedrun is a difficult event that requires of you the ability to control your car at high speeds. . Just like in the case of the ambush mode, also here there are predefined thresholds that qualify you for the 1st, 2nd or 3rd place. This time, however, this is about the mean speed of the vehicle, and not time. Target times are displayed before the event starts, and in the upper-right corner of the screen. Your results are taken as you go, and they appear on the "flag" on the car's left. If the stripe on the "flag" turns left, it means that your mean speed does not qualify you for the podium. . It is not a big deal, however, if you are still far enough from the finishing line and you can improve your performance. The modifications that work best with this event, are the ones that increase max speed and car's maneuverability. The track here is delineated similarly to the "quick race" mode, but there are no time limits that you need to reach so, whenever possible, you can extend it. When you notice e.g. a slide to another lane of the motorway, which is a bit longer than the default one, you can take it in order to improve your overall performance. The most important thing about speedruns is to avoid crashes. Very often it is a better idea to slow down, in order to go around the obstacle, than to crash into it and worsen your results. That is why swerving around police cars is so important for this event.

Pursuits are an inseparable element of the Most Wanted - Pursuit - Event types - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Pursuits are an inseparable element of the Most Wanted. Not only do they occur during the free ride mode, but also in all of the other events which is quite understandable - the authority do not tolerate racing in the middle of the city. While in free ride, you can provoke the police by bumping into a police car, exceeding the maximum permissible speed limit, bumping into other vehicles or even by smashing billboards. All of that is possible on condition that there is a squad car around The police do not appear spontaneously each time you violate a regulation - even if you pass a traffic enforcement camera at a light speed. Escaping from pursuits is rewarded with Speed Points, and how many you get, depends on how long the pursuit was and on the damage you caused.

Intensity

The intensity of a pursuit rises on the bar next to your GPS, depending on how long it already lasts and on how much damage you cause - Pursuit - Event types - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

The intensity of a pursuit rises on the bar next to your GPS, depending on how long it already lasts and on how much damage you cause. Reaching every next level makes the pursuit avoidance more and more difficult, as better and better squad cars join the fun. Apart from that, there appear more road blocks, road spikes are unfolded and, of course, more and more cars are after you.

When the intensity of the pursuit rises, or at least it doesn't drop, the colour of the bar is red. If the intensity drops, the bar turns blue and it is the only opportunity to lose the police on your tail. With time, escaping police becomes easier due to the fact that you get better and better cars.

This is what you should expect, depending on the pursuit intensity:

Police cars and police tactics

To stop you, the police use various tactics - Pursuit - Event types - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

To stop you, the police use various tactics. The first and the basic one is the PIT maneuver (Precision Immobilization Technique), that consists in pushing you off the road in order to stop you.

As the pursuit goes on, better and faster cars, for which it is be easier to catch up with you, start to appear - Pursuit - Event types - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

As the pursuit goes on, better and faster cars, for which it is be easier to catch up with you, start to appear. That's regardless of how fast your car is.

Alongside with the rise in the intensity of the pursuit, heavier cars will start to appear - Pursuit - Event types - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Alongside with the rise in the intensity of the pursuit, heavier cars will start to appear. These won't be wasting time on "knocking" you and try to pull off the PIT maneuver. These will be trying to collide head-on with you, in order to immobilize you.

When the pursuit itself turns out to be not enough, the police will start to block roads with, road blocks consisting of several squad cars - Pursuit - Event types - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

When the pursuit itself turns out to be not enough, the police will start to block roads with, road blocks consisting of several squad cars. At first, these are going to be lightweight cars that it is easy to ram. With time, however, the blockades will be reinforced with heavier cars and attempts to ram them, at full speed, will result in smashing your car, which may, but does not have to, end up in you being arrested. On many occasions, road blocks can be successfully avoided, by going along the pavement, between police cars, or by taking a turn into another road. PRO TIP: The rear of a police car is lighter than the front one. That is why you should always aim at the back.

When regular blockades turn out to be ineffective, the police will pull the last ace up their sleeve - road spikes - Pursuit - Event types - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

When regular blockades turn out to be ineffective, the police will pull the last ace up their sleeve - road spikes. Driving over these can drive you into serious trouble, unless you have re-inflates on. In the case when you don't, you should go to the nearest car garage for repairs.

Avoiding pursuits

The most basic method for avoiding pursuits is by getting ahead of the police and losing them, finding a hideout and waiting for things to calm down - Pursuit - Event types - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

The most basic method for avoiding pursuits is by getting ahead of the police and losing them, finding a hideout and waiting for things to calm down. What works best in this kind of situations is narrow alleys between buildings but also warehouses, container stacks, hangars and beauty spots somewhere far away from the main arteries. Remember to turn your engine off after you get there. Remember that police cars are not that effective on off-road routes so, whenever possible go off-road in order to lose the tail more easily. Be creative while running away from the police, change your direction frequently in order to avoid road blocks and police cars up ahead, get onto rails that go over viaducts, jump over terrain obstacles by using ramps for billboard smashing etc. The police have an advantage over you anyways (programmers' dirty trick consisting in the fact that the police catch up with you immediately), so do not make it easier for them even more, by driving straight ahead.

In Fairhaven, there are numerous Knocking Brothers car garages - Pursuit - Event types - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

In Fairhaven, there are numerous Knocking Brothers car garages. When you see the text that reads " the situation has settled down", you need to find one of the garages and drive under the roof to change the paint and repair the car (what really matters here is worn tires, the rest of the damage is purely cosmetic). Changing the paint will do no good if you are within police cars' sight. If you do not lose the pursuers right after you change the paint, drive calmly as far away from the police cars as possible.

Another tactics of losing the pursuit is switching cars - Pursuit - Event types - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Another tactics of losing the pursuit is switching cars. Just like in the case of changing the paint, the situation needs to settle a bit and, when you are out of police's sight, switch cars to decrease pursuit intensity.

The first though in the mind of a veteran, who's had a lot of experience with the first installment of Most Wanted will be I'll just destroy the squad cars that are after me - Pursuit - Event types - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

The first though in the mind of a veteran, who's had a lot of experience with the first installment of Most Wanted will be "I'll just destroy the squad cars that are after me". Unfortunately, in version 2012 this maneuver will only give you additional Speed Points, and the smashed car will be replaced with a new one, which is too bad.

If a cop succeeds at immobilizing your car, you will be

If a cop succeeds at immobilizing your car, you will be "eliminated" for several seconds. After you watch a cutscene from the crash, you will be able to resume escaping. Note: as you are watching the cutscene, the other squad cars are probably surrounding you and the arrest meter grows. After the cutscene ends, try and get away from the police as far as you can to reset the timer.

When the police manage to immobilize you just for a moment, the arrest meter starts to grow - Pursuit - Event types - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - Game Guide and Walkthrough

When the police manage to immobilize you just for a moment, the arrest meter starts to grow. This takes a dozen or so seconds so, if you aren't completely blocked off in a dead end, there is still a chance to get away. If you fail to escape, you will be arrested and you will lose all of the Speed Points that you have earned during the race, and you will be transferred to the Jack Spot for your car. This is the only consequence of being arrested which, in comparison with the previous Most Wanted, is no consequence at all. The game itself encourages you to lay yourself wide open for 12 times, and offers a milestone and Speed Points in return.
