Super Mario 3D World is finally here for the Wii U, and it’s definitely bringing some fun new elements to the Mario series. There are some very cool new power-ups and items joining the Mario staples. These new additions make the game more fun than ever, and they add a whole new dimension to gameplay. This is a new item for the Mario series. It gives the character the ability to chuck boomerangs to destroy items or defeat enemies.
This is another new item for Super Mario 3D World. This is a weapon in the game that lets your character shoot cannonballs at enemies. It will first appear as a ? block, but breaking it will let you use the weapon. Be warned – cannonballs can hurt other players and your character!
These colored coins will give you different rewards. A Red Coin will award the player with a power-up. Blue Coins will appear after hitting a P-Switch, and you have to collect them all for a reward. Green coins are similar to Blue Coins, but you’ll have to collect them faster and they will always be in the same type of pattern. Getting them all gives the player a 1UP or a power-up.
This is an item new to the Mario series. Using it will create a clone of the character, allowing the player to reach special areas. It will disappear when it is hit, if you do a ground smash, or if you finish the level.
This classic item will give your character the ability to shoot fireballs.

Just like in the other games in the Mario series, gold coins can be collected throughout levels. You will get an extra life for collecting 100 of them.
This new item will disguise your character to look like a Goomba, so enemies will ignore you!
These are special stars found in each level. They are similar to the big coins in other Mario series. There will be at least three in each level. Each one found gives the player 4,000 points.
This item will help Mario to keep his balancing on ice.
This white colored super leaf is fairly new to the Mario series. It will only appear if you die five times in a level you haven’t already completed (it’s like a pity power-up!). Like the regular Super Leaf, it puts your character in the Tanooki (raccoon) suit, so you can float and use spin attacks. However, the suit will be white and Mario will also be invincible while he is wearing it!
These new blocks are necessary in order to be able to defeat ghost enemies. The character will wear it over their body and then the player can shine the light towards enemy ghosts.
There are a variety of Koopa Shells in this game. One type can be worn by the character and used to defend against attacks. Koopa shells can also be flung at enemies to defeat them. Sometimes there are Golden Koopa Shells which will produce coins as they spin.
The Mega Mushroom is an item that will make Mario huge, allowing him to stomp over everything in his path! When it is active, Mario can pound the ground to destroy even more objects around him.
Technically, Plessie is a creature, not an item. It will appear in some levels and the player will need to control it so they can get through certain areas.
This common item will add time to the player’s clock, giving them more time to finish the level. There are both green and blue clocks. Green adds 100 seconds while blue adds 10 seconds.
This is a newer item, found in the Super Mario 3D series. Using it will allow your character to wear the box, letting them fly up into the air.
Stamps are a new collectible in Super Mario 3D World. There is typically one in each level.
The Super Bell is a new item for Super Mario 3D World, and it will be the character into a Cat Suit. The Cat Suit lets the character run up walls and climb goal posts, attack in midair, and slide into enemies. There is also a special Lucky Cat Bell which will grant the player coins if they do a ground smash while using it.
The Super Leaf has been around for a long time, and it gives Mario the classic Tanooki Suit. The Tanooki Suit lets players float while descending or use the spin attack. If you grab this as Luigi, you’ll use a Kitsune (fox) Suit.
This is a classic item that most Mario fans should be familiar with! After using it, your character will double in size and will be able to break bricks.
This item has been found in most of the Mario games, and it does the same thing in this one. Using it will make your character invincible for a short period of time.
