Mario Kart 8 is finally here, and everyone with a WiiU is snatching it up. The newest entry in the racing game series features some all new characters. Check out all the Nintendo favorites you can race as in the new Mario game.
There are 16 characters that you can play as from the start. Each character has a weight class for their vehicle. Check out the starting 16 and their karts.

There are 14 unlockable characters in the game right now. Many of these characters are making their first appearance in the Mario Kart series, and two of them are new to the Mario universe in general. To unlock these characters, you need to play Grand Prix mode and get Gold. As you get Gold on different levels, you'll unlock the characters in a random order. Here's all the characters you can get.
Baby Rosalina – Light (New to Mario series)
Iggy – Medium (New to Mario Kart)
Lakitu – Light
Larry – Light (New to Mario Kart)
Lemmy – Light (New to Mario Kart)
Ludwig – Medium (New to Mario Kart)
Metal Mario – Heavy
Mii – The weight is dependent on the height and weight of your personal Mii character.
Morton – Heavy (New to Mario Kart)
Pink Gold Peach – Heavy (New to Mario series)
Rosalina – Heavy
Roy – Heavy (New to Mario Kart)
Toadette – Light
Wendy – Light (New to Mario Kart)
There aren't any additional characters at the moment, but it is possible that Nintendo will release downloadable add-ons for the game. Future DLC could include new characters, and it has been hinted that Diddy Kong may be one of them.
