What would the best tank pet be? The best tank pet would be a bear. The bears are powerful when they fight. They will eat anything out of your bag that you can carry. They have two abilities and that is to claw and bite (went out with someone like that once). They are still waiting on their defining ability and that is their key weakness.

What would be the best DPS pet? The best DPS pet would be the tiger. You can have all three abilities with the cat. This includes dash, claw and bite. Take note that cats will only be able to eat fish and meat. This isn't difficult, because you can easily find fish and meat. The one downer with cats is the fact that nearly every hunter on WoW has one of them.

There is also the wolf. They are very fast. If you are looking for World of Warcraft Hunter Pets that are in the middle, then the wolf would be a great choice. If you are looking to make gold quick, then the pets can help you with that as they will help you kill more quickly. This is one of the main reasons why gamers choose the hunter class.
