Riddle us this: how do you solve every riddle in Batman: Arkham Knight on the PlayStation 4? Gotham City's most putridly dressed puzzler is back in Rocksteady Studios' latest open world adventure, and he's brought a whole slew of conundrums with him to tax your grey matter. Fortunately, you won't need to flex your thinking cap to solve them all, as we've done all of the hard work for you in the space below.
For each of the Riddler's, er, riddles that you solve, you'll unlock a Gotham City Story, which you can then read for additional background on various characters and locations by tapping the touchpad at any time. To close a conundrum, you'll need to scan a particular object by holding down the up button on the d-pad – though you will need to frame things properly. Remember, you can push the R3 button to get a close up should you require it.
The first area that you'll encounter in Batman: Arkham Knight is less densely populated than the other islands, but it still has plenty of riddles for you to solve.
Riddle 1: Bones stripped bare beneath a warning light, pay heed, seafarers, not to feel his bite.
Solution: Go to the bottom of the lighthouse near ACE Chemicals. There's a smouldering pile of bones inside – scan it.
Riddle 2: An open house for bed and dinner, is this sanctuary run by saint or sinner?
Solution: Just by Kirk Langstrom's laboratory you'll find a humble establishment named The Deacon's Mission. Scan the whole building.
Riddle 3: A bat uses these to see at night, the doc's didn't work and his cure caused a fright.
Solution: Inside Kirk Langstrom's laboratory – which is part of the Creature of the Night quest – you'll find a sketch on a white board at the end of the corridor once you've taken the lift. Scan it.
Riddle 4: Overgrown, abandoned, the inmates set free, madness could never be held in me.
Solution: Go to Falcone Shipping and look out to the sea. Push R3 to see the distant remains of Arkham Asylum on the skyline, and scan it to solve this obscure riddle.
Riddle 5: I bet you weren't invited to this lavish do, I wonder how many went dressed up as you?
Solution: Enter the Clock Tower from the bottom – not the top – and go through the door. You'll find a framed poster on the wall for the Masquerade Ball. Zoom in on it and scan it.
Riddle 6: Joining your mission can come with a cost, this empty reminder shows just what she lost.
Solution: Once you've got the Remote Hacking Device, head to the top of the Clock Tower and enter Oracle's office area. At the back of the room is a power symbol – hack it to reveal the Batgirl costume. Scan it.
Riddle 7:She stands at our center that we may not weaken, a symbol of hope, a towering beacon.
Solution: From the top of the Clock Tower, you should be able to see the Lady of Gotham statue. Just zoom in on it with R3 and scan it.
Riddle 8: Hope shines brightly in a city this dark, find the source of that signal and you'll soon hit your mark.
Solution: To the rear of the GCPD building, you'll find the Bat Signal perched atop a set of scaffolding. Scan it.
Riddle 9: Always looking for names to besmirch, where does this newsman conduct his research?
Solution: Inside the GCPD building, head into the Interview Room and scan Jack Ryder's desk.
Riddle 10: A souvenir from a previous life, why hold with a hand when a hook will suffice?
Solution: Again in the GCPD building, head to where Officer Cash is standing and look for a family photo on his desk. Zoom in so that you can see the full picture and scan it.

Solution: In the GCPD building once more, go in the communications room behind Officer Cash and scan the photo on the wall.

Solution: Go inside Wayne Tower – there's an electronic door about half-way up – and look for the private bar. Scan the picture above it.
Riddle 3: It doesn't take much to tame a Cat, make them wear this and then call the bat.
Solution: Once you've decided Catwoman's fate, scan a close-up of her collar in the orphanage to solve this head-scratcher.
Riddle 4: You forced this contraption over my brain, I'll reward you with punishment, debasement and pain.
Solution: In the orphanage again, go in the room beyond the one with the collar, and follow the corridor round to the back until you find a desk with a fan on it. Scan the hard-hat like contraption on the table.

Solution: Near to Grand Avenue, in the alleyway next to Lacy's Department Store, look for a piece of graffiti canvassing for Quincey Sharp.
Riddle 10: The League of Assassins stuck blades through hearts, now they impale each other's art.
Solution: In the Kingston area near Mercy Bridge search for a make-shift shack down an alleyway and scan it.
