Call of Duty Black Ops III PS4 PlayStation 4 Guide 1

Call of Duty's multiplayer has long been the main attraction for the series, and that's no different with its brand new instalment, Call of Duty: Black Ops III. Given the sheer popularity of the component, we've taken a few minutes out of our busy gaming schedule to put together some quick tips to help you to overcome your armoured enemies.

Friend or foe?

Many of the multiplayer modes in Call of Duty: Black Ops III revolve around teamwork, with favourites like Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Kill Confirmed all on offer. It may sound obvious, but it's worth trying to strike up a partnership with these people, as you'll definitely fare better on the battlefield if you're working from the same tactical playbook. Not everyone's eager to talk in the title, but if you put out a friendly message you'll be surprised by how many people respond to the, er, call of duty.

You're Special

One of the biggest new additions to Black Ops III are the Specialist abilities, which operate similarly to in Destiny. These abilities can change the tide of battle in a close multiplayer match, so it's vital that you select a Specialist who matches your personal play style. There's plenty to choose from, so we recommend experimenting. Those that prefer running and gunning may want to opt for Gravity Spikes, as they will enable you to perform a powerful ground pound that will insta-kill everyone in the near vicinity. Alternatively, if you're more into sitting back and taking down foes from a distance, then Sparrow's bow will help you to land those shots as it's loaded with explosive arrows that are deadly when fired with accuracy.

Duck and cover

One very obvious but often forgotten tip is to use cover. The maps are designed with specific obstacles for you to dodge, duck, dip, and dive behind, so use them. The new movement system implemented in Black Ops III makes it easier than ever to get about; sliding and boosting during shootouts will make you a more difficult target. One other tactic you can try is to camouflage yourself among bodies – just go prone in a litter of corpses and surprise your unsuspecting victims with showers of ammunition.

Streaking

Score streaks can make or break a match for your team – especially if you get on a roll. As such, it's very important to select the score streaks that you think are within your ability to reach – after all, it's no good opting for a mother ship if you can barely string a couple of kills together. We found it best to select low score streaks – RC-XD, UAV, and Care Package – but obviously this will depend on your own ability. Try to complement your team with the right kinds of power ups by communicating – or just use whatever you find the most fun.

Pinky and Perky

If you want to avoid getting strung up like a pig in a butcher's then perks and attachments can be quite useful. The best perks we found were the likes of the Blast Suppresser, which makes it possible to use your boost jump and slide without your location being revealed on the mini-map. We also recommend Hardwired, which makes you immune to tactical equipment and counter UAVs. Sixth Sense is another good option, which highlights nearby enemies on the game's mini-map. Again, try to experiment with all of the available options, and find the best choices that complement both your play style and your team.

Get your head in the game

Sometimes you'll come up against opponents that always seem like they have the upper-hand in firefights, but that doesn't mean that you're out of the game entirely. Consider whether there are additional objectives to complete in the game mode that you're playing – can you help capture territories or plant bombs? Not only will this provide valuable assistance to your beleaguered team mates, but it'll also give you a sense of worth – even if your death streak is through the roof.
