4 Nintendo 3DS Games Coming In 2014 That You Should Play

Nintendo might be struggling, but it’s handheld console is actually doing quite well, and there are some really good games coming soon. There’s a reason it’s the best-selling console each and every month, and a big part of that is the fantastic library of games already available for it. But there’s more coming, and some of the games look absolutely fantastic.

Whether you already own the 3DS or are thinking about getting one soon, the games that follow will give you a great reason to get excited for the console and it’s future.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe

Kirby, who is often Nintendo’s forgotten mascot, is finally getting another new game on the 3DS. While Nintendo has often been known to take Kirby into some pretty weird games outside of the little puff’s platformers of yore, this one looks to be returning to his roots, bringing Kirby on a stylish and fun adventure like the originals.

Of course, this isn’t just a straight rehash of the old Kirby games, and it does see him getting some cool new abilities such as a horn that smashes enemies and a giant ball that he can use to run over enemies. The changes are small, but it’s been a while since Nintendo made a more traditional Kirby game, so when this one hits on May 2, it should feel pretty fresh and exciting.

Mario Golf: World Tour

If there’s one thing Nintendo is not afraid to do, it’s go back to the well and use its established franchises. For fans of said franchises, this is a great thing, for those who want to company to do something new, it’s a little less exciting. Personally, I fall under the camp that loves the Nintendo franchises, so more of them is always a good thing for me.

Mario Golf is always a good one to go back to especially for a portable game. It features some simple, relaxing gameplay that is just fun. With this game, Nintendo promises to show off its new commitment to online play with a heavy dose of multiplayer, which could be quite fun for a golf game, especially one that doesn’t require a huge knowledge of the sport. This game drops on May 2, so we don’t have too long to wait to get to play it.

Aban Hawkins and the 1,001 Spikes

A lot of the games that come to the 3DS tend to be simpler experiences aimed at a wide audience. Just see the two games before this on the list for proof of that. However, Aban Hawkins and the 1,001 Spikes dos not fall into that category. Not even a little bit. Instead, it’s a brutal platformer designed to push you into fits of rage as you attempt to make your way through it.

Aban Hawkins and the 1001 Spikes

You get 1000 lives to make it through, which sounds like more than enough, but with the frequency with which you die, it’s simply not. Add in the co-op play, where each of the players shares the same pool of 1000 lives, and the difficulty level of this game is through the roof. However, when you get through it, you feel that same level of satisfaction that old-school platformers used to deliver, which is just awesome to see in a modern 3DS game. No release date is set for this game yet, but it is expected to drop at some point in 2014.

Super Smash Bros.

Super Smash Bros. coming to the 3DS is a pretty obvious choice for games to get excited about, but I would kick myself if I didn’t include it. Who wouldn’t want to have their favorite Nintendo characters battle it our in a surprisingly deep fighting game? Even better, who wouldn’t want to be able to take that gameplay with them anywhere they go?

Nintendo knows that most gamers associate Super Smash Bros. with home consoles, and as such, it is actually offering some pretty cool exclusive content to the 3DS version in an effort to attract gamers to the platform. It will get exclusive levels, trophies, and plenty of other content that won’t be on the Wii U version. For 3DS owners, this is a game that must be purchased when it drops later this year.

Conclusion

If you own a Nintendo 3DS, or if you are still on the fence, the incredible games already available on the platform and the ones coming soon are more than enough reason to spend the money to get one. Whether you have a long commute, or are even just looking for some new experiences to play while sitting at home, the 3DS most definitely has you covered.
