6 Games To Be Excited About At E3 2014

E3 2014 is almost here, and that means both gamers and game journalists are getting ready to take in the biggest event in the world of video games. This is the first E3 after the release of the new consoles, so of course, we are all hopeful for some big announcements to come. There’s always some surprises, and that’s part of what makes E3 so fun as a video game fan. Titanfall was announced seemingly out of left field at E3, and hopefully this year will feature an even bigger surprise.

Unfortunately, I cannot predict the future, so it’s impossible for me to know what the surprises will be. Thankfully, there are some games we do know will be shown, and those are exactly what we are going to take a look at today.

Uncharted 4

Things have been a little weird over at Naughty Dog, with some very important people leaving the studio. Still, they are a talented squad, and if their performance on past Uncharted games and The Last of Us are any indication, the folks over there know how to make a quality game. If you’ve even remotely been interested in Uncharted, the idea of a next generation entry in the series should have you drooling in excitement. Whether it’s an in-depth trailer or an actual playable demo remains to be seen, but not matter what, this is a game to keep an eye on at the show.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Love it or hate it, COD is here to stay. I’ve defintiely burnt out on the series myself, instead cutting my teeth on games like Titanfall and Dota 2, but the new one has me intrigued just because it’s not from Treyarch or Infinity Ward. Now, Sledgehammer Games is taking a crack at the long-running and best-selling FPS franchise, and hopefully that means some exciting changes to the tired formula. At the very least, we will get a better idea of what the game is from E3, and that’s exciting enough.

Halo 5: Guardians

It’s Halo for Xbox One, do I really need to say more? Okay fine, if you insist. Sadly, we recently learned that the next Halo would not grace us with its presence until 2015. Microsoft’s teaser at E3 2013 implied a 2014 release, but sadly that’s not going to happen. Still, we don’t know too much about what exactly the next Halo game will be, and it’s hard not to be interested. Will it be like Halo 4, or will it go back to basics? All these questions and more should be answered at E3, and that will at least help us deal with the long wait to actually play the game next year.

Far Cry 4

Far Cry 3 was somewhat of a surprise hit. I had no interest in previous Far Cry games, but the gameplay and charm of this one sucked me in and didn’t let go until I’d sucked every last bit of content out of it. Now, we know the next one is going to be shown off at E3, hopefully in playable form, and that’s great news. With Ubisoft releasing the beloved Assassin’s Creed IV, and then following it up with the contentious Watch_Dogs, it will be interesting to see how Far Cry 4 shapes up. Of course, an E3 demo is just a vertical slice of the game, and Watch_Dogs E3 demo is actually what set expectations so high, but I have faith that Far Cry 4 will turn out to be just as good, and nonsense-filled, as the last one.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Dragon Age is a fantastic RPG, but it suffered a slight fall from grace after the release of the second one. Personally, I still liked it, but many gamers felt that it was a little too watered down. Hopefully Bioware listened to player feedback and brings back some of the harder mechanics from the first one, especially with the resurgence of incredibly difficult games in recent years. The first trailer looked awesome, but that’s the trailers job. It will be far more interesting to see how reactions come down after we get a bigger taste of the game at E3 2014.

Super Smash Bros.

Super Smash Bros. is coming for the Wii U and 3DS very soon. That means that Nintendo will show off a very close to finished version of the game at E3, which will really give us a great idea of what to expect. In fact, they are even hosting a massive tournament where the best players in the world will battle it out on the Wii U. I’m especially curious to see how the fast-paced fighting game handles on the portable console. On the Wii U, console owners are starving for quality games to play, and it doesn’t get much better than some Smash.

Wrapping Up

Not all of these games are confirmed to be playable at E3 this year, but they will all be represented one way or another. There’s even more than these, and plenty of others that are rumored, but not confirmed. If you’re a gamer, it’s impossible not to be excited!
